The Clock Shop

Accidentally broke the torque on my clock, Took it here it was repaired for a reasonable price. They knew immediately what it was, had the part in stock and fixed it. Would recommend. Getting some one on the phone was a tiny prob possible due to the fact that it was the holiday season. Altho my experience was positive I would say I experienced a lot of the negatives mentioned eg not calling back, not there at their marked business hrs, not responding etc

I wanted to like this place but am very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend. I went in to ask for a new cord on a wall clock and was told they couldn’t replace a cord but would recommend «batterizing» it.
Nearly two months and $ 75 later I finally have it back. It no longer has a second hand and the minute and hour hands were replaced with a different style. In addition, the old mechanism was thrown out making it difficult to go somewhere else and get it restored.
Buyer beware.

Call before going, despite what they post as their business hours, online and on store… I drove 20 miles to find them closed, no nothing, went by several times after driving that distance. Not cool.

I’m sure these guys are very good at what they do if you can ever get their attention. Practically however they are next to impossible to do business with. They clearly have no regard for their customers time. If you drop off work and call to check on it, they are often busy and say they’ll call back. They won’t. They are famous for completely ignoring their posted business hours. Call in advance, you say? Sadly, even if you call in advance and ask if they will be open, there is little guarantee that they will actually be open when you arrive.
Very good at coming up with excuses, but far short of delivering acceptable customer service. Completely undependable. I will not do business with them again. If there were no other clock shops in Portland, I would drive to Eugene before giving work to these guys.
UPDATE: to the owner’s credit, he genuinely wants to make it right and offered to deliver the clock to my home. Maybe I’d go back to him. I don’t know. If you do business with him, just set your expectations appropriately. He just isn’t all that interested in being in his shop.

They repair clocks, they don’t make clock here. So, when I dropped my 100 year heirloom off, he said he would look at it. A couple parts need to be machined so he was really helpful in showing me what was needed. I adapted a couple parts he gave me and brought it back. I think it will last another 100 years. I appreciate that he know his limitations so the job was done well.
It is a mature industry. Hard to find someone who can actually repair this kind of thing. Nice to find a specialist. Prices are fair.

I had a clock that had more of a sentimental value than anything else. The metal hands on the clock had been bent in such a way that they broke off. I took my clock in to John and he replaced the hands at a minimal charge. The service was prompt and friendly. I wouldn’t look anywhere else for clock/​watch repair.

I believe in supporting small family-​owned businesses, but I will never be back. I assumed that it’d be free to have watch links put back into my 3 watches, but when I went to pick them up, they told me it was $ 45! They charge $ 15 per watch to put in one link. I asked her how long it takes, and she said less than 5 minutes. Friendly, but ridiculously overpriced.

I doubt I’ll ever do business with this shop. I Called ahead of time about getting a watch battery replaced, said they could do it on the spot. I said I’d be right there! When I got there 15 minutes later the person that needed to do the repair out of the shop! They asked me to leave the watch and return later. But. I called ahead, I don’t have time to come back… that’s no way to do business!

Seems to be a one man operation and it’s pretty good. Took our old family cuckoo clock by, it had not worked for years. They basically rebuilt the clock and now it works! Cuckoos on the hour and half-​hour.
Not cheap!
Cost us over $ 200, but we wanted that clock back!
After we got the clock back, it developed a slight problem keeping time. We took it back and he re-​adjusted the clock, NO CHARGE!
