So glad I found Handyman Pros. I called Rick for addendum repairs for a home I was selling. He was accommodating to the timeline and honest about his work. He went above and beyond to get done what we needed for the repairs, and even for appraisal repairs required after. Very trustworthy company and great work. Highly recommended.

I needed a handyman to fix my fence. They seemed nice, came out & gave a reasonable quote & I scheduled the job for 2 weeks later. The day arrived & they canceled due to rain which I understood. They gave me a new date 3 weeks out. That day came & they never showed up. I texted the original number they had texted me from with no response. I called twice that week & left 2 messages asking them to confirm that they needed to once again reschedule & never heard back. They did have a business message on their machine so I know I called the correct number. I called one last time & asked them to give me the courtesy of telling me they changed their mind about doing the job so I could find someone else since I now had been waiting 5 weeks. No response. Very poor communication. Not sure if they went out of business or decided the job was not worth what they quoted me?

Handy Man Pros? What a JOKE… They should be ashamed to use the word «PRO»
WORST experience ever! DONT hire this company, they will waste your time!!!
I made an appointment a week in advance with this Company to come and build 2 beds for me (a large job as one of the beds is a huge bunk bed with shelves and desk) the company was nice, made appointment quoted me price… I even got a curtosy reminder the day before letting me know my time slot!
Come to it… Day of appointment no one answers the phone, no one shows up at my house! I completely get stood up! I needed these beds together ASAP for my kids! Now I have to schedule out with another company… Which I should have done in the first place! Never hire Handy Man Pros! They are unreliable and unprofessional! You will waste your time!!!

Rick was unresponsive, arrogant, and did not follow through on any services he promised. There were long delays. He also mysteriously raised the price of the job after taking a large cash deposit and never performed. He did ultimately refund the money but it was a bad experience overall.

I found Handyman Pro on Unilocal and saw that the reviews were mostly positive if he came and if he provided an estimate or did the work. Rick was friendly over the phone when I called to tell him I had an emergency repair of a shower surround that hand come down.
Rick came over to my place to look at the project — after he’d seen what was to be done and we’d discussed what was involved I asked him how much the project would cost. He said it’s $ 85 just for walking in the door and $ 65/​hr after that. I balked since he hadn’t mentioned anything until now about a trip charge. That’s when things got weird.
I suggested we’d better just call it quits before he did any work since communication had already broken down and I wasn’t comfortable with paying $ 85 without it at least going toward the first hour of work.
His position was that «everyone knows there’s an extra charge when you have an emergency.» And that he’d «dropped everything» to come and help me. But when I called he said he «happened to be in my area» and would take a lunch break and stop by after. Does that sound like a «dropping everything» situation? I think not.
My position is that since he didn’t state his «emergency fee» before coming to my property, how can he expect me to agree to it after the fact? He followed me toward the door and asked «cash, check or charge?» I said I don’t think you understood me — I’m not hiring you and I don’t agree to your terms. He said he wouldn’t leave until I paid him and stood there in my entry refusing to leave. So I told him I would call the police and he said please do.
Mind you I’m a woman alone in a house with a strange man refusing to leave — it was really scary! We waited for the police to arrive. Thankfully he wised up and chose to wait in his car. I didn’t dare leave for fear this psycho would retaliate.
He’d spent maybe 10 minutes in my home before we realized we couldn’t work together. Rick chose to waste over an hour rather then chalking it up to his mistake or better yet gaining a new customer by being flexible and just doing the work without the «emergency fee.» Needless to say the police sided with me since Rick admitted he hadn’t said anything about the charges over the phone and Rick was asked to leave the area.
I am scared in writing this that he will retaliate — but I feel honor bound to warn others!

Rick did a great job helping me on a few fixes at our rental. He made two different trips out to fix my toilet and stove but kept me in the loop and explained everything step by step. Will definitely be calling Rick again!

He might do good work if you could get him to do his job? I called Rick 5 days ago about an urgent issue with a leaky bathroom faucet in our condo. Likely just a broken washer. He told us he would arrange an appointment with our tenant to inspect it. 5 days later, our tenant only received one phone call: that a replacement faucet would take a week to order, and the total would be $ 275.
Rick hasn’t even seen the issue, and he’s already sending us an estimate to replace the whole thing? And a whole week to order a common piece of bathroom hardware? Is there a national shortage on faucets?
Wasted a week on this guy. Moving on to (hopefully) better options.

Great service, prompt and reliable. Replaced a lighting fixture and a switch. Pleasant person too!

Rick is the best. I called on a Monday to have a dog door installed in an all-​metal door. I needed it done right away and Rick confirmed he could come Tuesday morning. He showed up on time. Installed it in no time. Was nice. And cleaned up.
What more could you ask?

I called the handyman pro llc on a Monday and the office was closed. I left an urgent message because my toilet was leaking water on the floor and the owner of the company called me right back to make an appointment the next morning first thing, from Disneyland. True dedication to his business. The repairman who was sent was clean, courteous and knowledgeable. I will use this company again.

So I live in a split level home and we have never used the bathroom downstairs, it was time for a quick inexpensive remodel. Rick showed up took a look said no problem. I picked out all my stuff he picked it up and by the end of the day I had a new bathroom! I couldn’t be happier with his work or his attitude.
I plan on using him for our rental too. Thanks Rick!

We were having problems with our hot water heater and called ‘the other’ plumbing service with the high ratings here and got a snotty scheduler who snickered when she told me she could schedule me for a week out. So I called Handyman Pro… I went into voicemail right away and thought «I’ll never hear from these people». But they called back in less than five minutes and let me know they would be in my area in about two hours and they could call when they were nearby. That’s really helpful as I don’t have the convenience of waiting at home for someone to show up in a two hour window.
Handyman Pro showed up, diagnosed and fixed the problem in 20 minutes or less. Polite, informative and not pushy to do other work.
I would certainly hire them to do other work and appreciate good customer service.

I’m the landlord of a rental unit, and was out of the country when my tenant called to say the kitchen sink wasn’t draining and the disposal didn’t work. I was in a panic and called The Handyman. Even though they’d just closed for the day, they were on top of it and quickly responded. WIthin hours they’d fixed everything and everyone was happy. They really got me out of a jam. Their website is pretty old school, but they run a high-​tech shop with text messages and Square for payments. I’ll absolutely use them next time I need handyman help!

I haven’t even scheduled an appointment yet and I already hate them! I have a Living Social voucher, so I have to use them, or I sure wouldn’t. And in fact, I think that the voucher may be part of the problem. At least I hope so, because I’m hoping good olé Rick that everyone (mostly) seems to like so much isn’t as rude to regular customers as he was to me. Before I purchased the voucher I called their business and asked if they did plumbing. I bought the voucher and called to make an appointment. Unfortunately I got Rick, the owner as he pointed out belligerently during our conversation. I told him I had the voucher and I wanted to make an appointment. I asked if they had anyone that was good at plumbing. He jumped on me and said they did but he was not available for voucher customers. (I wanted a faucet installed.) I mentioned that someone there had told me before I bought the voucher that they did. He wouldn’t even let me finish my sentence before he nastily stated that the man good at plumbing wasn’t available for voucher customers. I said I understand, but I was told differently, that I just wanted him to know that. He responded that I had told him that three times, and repeated his spiel. This went on for another round (what was I thinking)? He told me in a very rude way that I needed to make an appointment online. (I think this is only for voucher people~is this like homeless people?) He nastily gave me the website address, and then made some other rude comments that I can’t remember because I was so mad and insulted. Rick was unbelievably rude throughout our conversation. To make matters worse, when I got to the website area for voucher people (at the bottom of the testimonials page?) the procedure for making an appointment is quite difficult and contained all sorts of fine print and rules, some of which apply specifically to voucher use. It seems to me that, sweet as he is, Rick would want to milk the voucher people for all that they are worth. But not so, evidently he just wants to get rid of them. What’s the point of offering a damn Living Social then? I don’t get it. Anyway, bottom line~ he’s a nasty piece of work. Don’t go there.
If I can’t get out of my voucher I will update after the work is done. (I don’t expect much.) That is, if I can get him to be civil long enough to make an appointment.
This is my update. It took some whining, but LivingSocial finally said they would refund me on this guy. All I can say is THANK GOD!

Purchased a deal on Living Social. First sign that this was not going to be a good experience was when I received an e-​mail cancelling the first appointment at the last minute because I had not confirmed by e-​mail. No phone call, just an e-​mail cancelling the appointment. When the appointment was re-​scheduled, despite telling them Monday would not work with our schedule and scheduling an alternative date, my wife received a call Monday morning saying they were on the way. When she pointed out we had told them we couldn’t do that day and had instead scheduled for an alternative date, the handyman rudely insisted she was wrong. When they finally arrived on the scheduled date, they informed my wife they would not install the carpet runner on our stairs because they would only install the runner using stair rods – no one in their right mind would use stair rods as the primary method of installation and we had tack strips, staples/​stapler, carpet pad necessary for proper installation, but he refused to install using this method. The other job we needed done was to have the bath room door fixed so that it would close, and the handyman made excuses about needing to replace either the door knob or the door in order to do the job. The only thing fixed in our house was a sliding door.
Bottom line, paid for 2 hours of work and got 20 minutes worth. The owner relies on his boilerplate language in his e-​mails which state that the owner is to provide all materials… which is difficult to do when important facts like methods that the contractor is willing to use in order to perform the job requested are not communicated.
I’ve used numerous contractors for my homes in the past. They all look at the work they are going to do beforehand to communicate what the job entails and what the time and materials are that will be needed. This alternative method of simply showing up and then not being ready, willing and able to do the jobs requested is not a good business model.

I’ll repeat another Unilocalers comment, «Rick rocks — quick, courteous and affordable!»
I called him for a plumbing issue and he quoted me $ 125 (previous call to a plumber was estimated at $ 200). Rick was at the house in 20 minutes, complete with project in 30 minutes. He was all business, finding the main water shut off, etc., explained the reason why the valve was leaking, replaced and done.
I’m lining up a list of things for him to do next. He has a loyal customer now.

Welp. I wish that I could write a review about the services of The Handyman Pro, but we never received an estimate. We had them over. They looked around. They took notes. They left. And that’s when things went silent.
We had to contact THEM for information. For 4 weeks, we were in the dark… waiting, wondering what was going on.
If the lethargy with which they deal with their potential customers is any indication of their work and communication during a project, my advice is to avoid them and go with someone else.
If you Google «handyman, Portland», there are more than 10 companies that come up. Call all of them before you call The Handyman Pro.

I have been using this service at my crental complex and they are easy, straight forward and do it right the first, very honest and reliable. i would refer them anytime.

It was a fantastic experience to work with The Handyman Pro! Greg came out to install some light fixtures and was great about getting the job done efficiently. We were happy with the price quote and impressed that he could start immediately. He was timely, pleasant, and installed everything securely. He even went out to get some additional parts we needed.
In the installation process of one of the light fixtures, there was some damage done to one of our bathroom mirrors – completely accidental. Chris and Rick were SO professional and courteous to work with in getting the mirror repaired. They were in constant communication with us, and within a week, we had an identical new mirror, replaced at their expense!
High quality customer service seems rare lately… not so with The Handyman Pro. We wish we could give them more than five stars, we were so impressed with their level of work ethic. We recommend them highly and will not hesitate to call them again in the future!

Throughout November 2011, I’ve had about $ 2500 worth of work done on my home by Rick — 2 days worth of wall & baseboard work in my basement, a new gutter cut & hung, and some electrical work.
THE GOOD:
(1) As others have described, he will get his hands dirty on the first visit, and even fixed some electrical stuff for me for like $ 50 right on the spot.
(2) Also during my first visit, Rick spent a pretty long time with me talking about my plans for my house, and tailored his advice accordingly. I really appreciated this, as I am a fairly new homeowner and soon to be a brand new renter/​landlord.
(3) I have an old house with some existing problems (sagging roof, weird old walls and angles, my own botched repair jobs, etc). Rick was able to work around these issues in almost all cases.
(4) The work itself is polished and nicely executed. Looks good cosmetically, even in my odd-​shaped basement with weird old issues.
THE BAD:
(1) None, really.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
(1) For Handyman stuff, I would recommend him to a friend.

Rick rocks — quick, courteous and affordable!
You really don’t want to find water spewing from a hole in the yard. I did, and had no idea who to call. A quick Unilocal search later and it was «Rick to the Rescue». I sent him a picture of the busted pipe and he arrived promptly with the necessary parts. He was easy to talk to and It really couldn’t have gone more smoothly.
I have to say he lives up to the name — The Handyman Pro. I’m calling him again, I just don’t yet know why.
