Union 76 Gas Station

I normally wouldn’t take the time to review a gas station, but the people at this particular place are the nicest and friendliest employees I’ve ever had the pleasure of talking to. Wow. So kind and happy. Made my day.

When I first moved to Portland, I soon realized that things are a little different here. For instance, you can’t buy hard liquor at the grocery store, and you can’t pump your own gas.
I’m not the most friendly guy in the world, so being forced to deal with another human being the first thing in the AM – before having my morning cup of java at the office – bugged the living heck out of me. I can’t even form a coherent sentence before 8:00. Eh, but what are you going to do?
At least the attendant at this station is friendly and efficient. He hustles out to the pump in his parka, even during the most inclement weather. Doesn’t even seem to mind my conversing with him using minimal grunts and hand gestures. Bing, bang, boom, I’m back on the road and heading to work.
My dad always swore 76 gas was the best and never filled up anywhere else. I’m pretty sure it all comes out of the same pipe somewhere, but keeping even the smallest, insignificant traditions alive is comforting for some reason.

The Gas Attendants here are always the nicest. I go out of my way to fill up here when I need to get some gas. Even as a guy, they’ll clean my windshield, on occassion.
