We just went to Urban Garlic and found out from the cart next to it that they are closing for good. :(I’m so depressed, and I’m going to miss the sweet«Garlic Lady.» It was one of our top five places we always wanted to go to in Portland.

The name«Urban Garlic» is completely apt. As you might expect, garlic is heaped onto their flatbread in an abundant fashion. The guy at the window was awkward — he stared at me for the longest time before acknowledging me. I asked if I could order the(asagio) cheese bread. He paused for what seemed an eternity and then said, yes, but it would be a while because there were orders in front of mine. No problem, I indicated. My order was ready in about five minutes. The flatbread, hand-rolled individually for each order, is folded and placed into a foil wrap. I did like the texture of the flatbread. It reminded me of a dinner roll, very soft and a little bit chewy. However, there was hardly any cheese. In addition to the garlic, oregano had been sprinkled into the flatbread. Overall, I would say that the flatbread was pretty good, but the garlic tasted lingered and lingered in my mouth for the rest of the afternoon. Nonetheless, you should try Urban Garlic’s flatbread at least once.

I went here on a Sunday afternoon and was really surprised as to how I was treated. I stood there for a couple of minutes before the person inside even bothered to speak to me, even though he was looking right at me. He then said there are two orders ahead of me. I said ok, and he was reluctant to even take my order! I felt like I was not welcome and in fact, a bother. I will never return to here, as I felt awkward during the whole exchange. There was no reason for this, as there was no line, and as he said, there were only two orders a head of mine. The way he said it made me think it was too much hassle, where as that seems to be normal for how food carts operate.

I still love this place and I keep coming back. The operating hours have been a bit shifty, but I found out that there was some piping issues that needed some emergency repairs, so that might explain it. It’d be rad to have a number to call to find out if my favorite lady is there making amazing wraps, or maybe a facebook she can update to let you know when they’re open. Either way, I still love this place.

I visited this spot on my whirlwind tour of the different food cart pods in PDX. I tried the olive oil? asiago cheese combo with a bit of mozzerella thrown in for good measure. The homeade flat bread was amazingly tasty, and paired well with the olive oil and cheese. It was a good first attempt at the pod on SE43rd and Belmont — more to come!

The garlic flat bread is very tasty, but the Chuckwagon Chicken sandwich, wrapped in the flat bread was very bland. Considering the ingredients in the sandwich, it should have been one incredible invention. Ingredients like chicken, mushrooms, onions and cheese. My opinion, this could be a great sandwich with the addition of a sassy sauce, aioli or even some hot peppers. This is only my first visit so I’m planning on giving it another go. You know though, that was one huge sandwich!

I have a weakness for fresh, warm bread, and Urban Garlic definitely hits the mark. Honestly, I would’ve paid $ 6.50 just for the flatbread — the stuff inside was just a bonus. The Italian wrap had fresh tomatoes, olives, marinara, mozzarella, yummy Italian spices, and prosciutto(other options: salami or pepperoni). The Veggie wrap had tons of veg. protein(along with veggies and cheese), making it just as filling as its meat brothers. The food takes a little while to prepare since it’s all made fresh to order. Be patient! It’s tasty.
