Sorry to write this one because I support local businesses but,…I just couldn’t get past the taste of the bottom of the pizza. It tasted as if I licked the end of a battery, no joke. It took to much from the pizza. I figured it was on just my husbands and I pizza so I took a bite of my sons and theirs was the same way :(Sorry

I wish all pizza was made with such TLC as it is at Wy’est. If you’re afraid of the wait, call in advance. We didn’t mind the wait in the quiet parking lot and we didn’t mind the outdoor seating at all either. There isn’t much in the way of seating, but we came on a really quiet night. Wy’est Pizza has all the qualities of a great pizza. That is, it’s crispy where it’s supposed to be and a bit chewy, but not too much, where it’s supposed to be. The flavors were well balanced. We wished it was possible to eat pizza more often, without sacrificing our svelte waists.

One of the worst things about moving from Brooklyn to Portland was the nightmarish idea that I would no longer be able to get my grubby hands on top notch pizza. My fears were confirmed as the weeks went by in my new town with not even a decent slice in sight. But then I stumbled upon Wy’east and HOLYBALLS! They served me some of the better pizza I have ever had! Thin crust, superb sauce, quality cheese, fresh toppings, MUAH! I have been a regular ever since, usually ordering more than one pizza so I can have variety AND more for later. The margherita and both of the white pizzas are staples for my house. Wy’east also does an excellent job with their rotating seasonal pies. The first one we tried was the Indian Paintbrush(cilantro/almond pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, maybe goat cheese?), and it was simply phenomenal. We ordered one of those on every subsequent visit and were pretty devastated when it was rotated out, but the owners gave us the recipe for the pesto! They are just some of the nicest, most pleasant people you could hope to meet! Even in near 100 degree heat inside of their little cart, they greet you with a smile. When it comes to pizza in Portland, or anywhere in this half of the country, Wy’east is my top pick. Quality ingredients and a hand-crafted pie made with love is what makes this place one of the greats.

OMG. first of all, the owner is great about talking about food and areas in Portland. Second, I had a great time chatting and watching him produce one of the BEST pizzas I have ever eaten. Just have to say that it is great knowing how much love and respect goes into this great pizza. The taste is phenomenal… definitely will be back! Thank you to the owner for taking the time and love to produce this feast. Just all around the BEST!!!

A quirky little place well worth a visit. With all the varieties of thin crust in Portland, it’s becoming difficult to distinguish one pie from another. Nevertheless, Wy’east’s Marmot ranks right up there. Pyro Pizza on Hawthorne is still my favorite, especially when you consider value. Nevertheless, I’d come back here. This is more of take out type of venue, but some might enjoy eating in a parking lot next to cars whizzing by on busy SE50th. ADVICE: do not just show up, order a pizza and expect to eat soon as the wait will be around 30 minutes. Not quite sure why it has to be this way, but whatever. Therefore, call ahead!

I liked their pizza crust, but sadly I didn’t love the toppings. I thought the pepperoni tasted weird, in an almost gamey sort of way. I also read the website wrong and thought I was ordering an anchovy pizza(something I’d never tried, but my husband loves, so I thought I’d be brave) but they were sardines. Even he, the most adventures eater ever, didn’t love it. It was definitely something to eat all right away, because it didn’t make for good leftovers. Sorry Wy’east! I wanted to love you!

Wy’east, you may ask? More like, Wy-not-NoPo??? This place is way too far out deep in Felony Flats, if you ask some of us! (Yes, I realize the, ahhhh, preciousnessness of someone from No-Po goofing on any other part of town for their criminal element)… The only thing really«Criminal» involving this food cart, as far as I’m concerned, is how wickedly good their pie is. Sparse ingredients, liberally applied. I think my Italian Unilocal pal Santos from the East Would would agree, and approve of this place. Sometimes Less really is more, and these 12″ pies are put an exclamation point on the concept, as for emphasis. The Margharita and the Sausage w/onion and mushroom are both superb specimens. The crust they have down to an art form: thin, crispy exterior: tasty, fluffy, chewy, substantial interior. Mamma Mia! What a skill set to have mastered… Wy’east? You may ask your friends or honey? W’yesssss! They’ll cry in return, if they have any sense what-so-evah! Here’s hoping and wishin’ fervently that they open a sister cart in the nearby gorge… you know, and they’d of course have to call themselves…“W’yeth”…

OK, I like it a lot and I read all the Unilocal reviews that proclaim it to be best in show, but despite my will to give 5 stars, my hand moved over the magic stars and only gives 4 stars like a demented Ouija Board, so why? I need to go into therapy and discover my inner pizza, I obviously am a confused soul. The crust, the toppings, something just doesn’t quite knock me out. I look frantically for«It» but I don’t know what«It» is until I find it. I love the people, the cart, the pizza, but somehow it hasn’t got«It». Heartbroken, my quest goes on until I find peace. Here is a video that describes«It».

Finally payed enough attention to their slightly irritating hours to head over. Oh yea, and don’t forget to call ahead like 40 minutes. Yes, it’s adorable that it’s run by a couple. Yes, they make good pizza and everyone wants to see a family-run pizza cart in their neighborhood. But despite their pizza, there is better pizza in town. It would be unfair to name said places, but I stand by the statement that they exist. Got the pepperoni, crust was very tasty, but overly greasy. Prices were just fine, a little high in my opinion for a cart(~$ 14). Yes, grease by itself would not necessarily take a place from 4 stars down to 3, but again when there are better places, it should be considered. And in all fairness, I did have a difficult decision choosing between 3 and 4. More like 3.5 out of 5. For pizza enthusiast, I would recommend a look. But said pizza enthusiast should also have a discerning palate. Good idea for a dollar off for walking or biking. Liked that one.

I openly tout Apizza Scholls at any opportunity, but when I do, there have been times that the person I’m talking to deflects my comments by saying they prefer Wy’east to which I replied, «Yeah, I’ve been wanting to try that place for ages.» I finally made that happen. My wife and I went there one Saturday evening and actually lucked out with our timing because apparently they can get pretty bogged down with orders and you could end up waiting for upwards of an hour and a half for your pizza. Though we were lucky that evening, they advised us to call ahead in the future to make sure we wouldn’t have to wait very long. Anyway, the pizza. We ordered their monthly special pizza and a margherita. The special one was a white pizza with lemon oil and asparagus, among other things. This one arrived first and was thoroughly delicious, though some arugula thrown on top would have taken it to another level. Margherita pizzas are a good standard to measure a pizza place by and they certainly get high marks for theirs. Their sauce, cheese, and other ingredients are exceptional quality and you can really tell they put a lot of love into every pizza they make. I only have one tiny point of criticism and it might have just been a rare occurrence. Though their pizza dough has fantastic flavor, I found that the bottom of the pizza had a strong burnt/bitter taste that made me almost want to eat the pizza cheese-side down. It was somewhat off-putting to have that bitterness hit the tongue first thing. Therefore, I am still pegging Apizza Scholls as my favorite. That’s not to say I won’t go back to Wy’east again!

This is one legit pizza place. When I went, there was an amusing sign up that taxed people who drove cars, and offered discounts to bike riders. My friend hid his car around a corner and we ordered pizza. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING on the menu is mouth-watering and delicious. It’s even better if you’ve biked there and worked up an appetite. The place is situated next to some sort of crafty building place, which is fun to look into while you’re walking around, waiting for pizza. I always go at night when it’s dark and rainy. Waiting for the delicious pizza always gives me time to think. I imagine the experience could be even cooler during the day because there might be some interesting crafty stuff going on to watch. Nonetheless — this place is so good! It’s really good. Just take my word for it, okay? I don’t remember what I ate there last. I remember that I was drooling like Pavlov’s dog for a good ten minutes while I waited for it. Oh man, was it delicious. I absorbed it. Oh yeah — the owners are really fun and interesting. They’re good like the pizza, but you shouldn’t try to eat them. That would be bad.

Just friggin’ go. The mister and I have recently re-discovered Wy’east. I’m seriously confused why we ever stopped. Comparing like with like: 1. Apizza Scholls: Wy’east is close and possibly as good, but without the wait or the price. 2. Pyro: okay Pyro is really good cart pizza, but the crust is a little thick for my taste. Almost like pizza flavored bread. 3. Ken’s: oh please. granted I’ve only given Ken’s one shot, but based on that there’s just no comparison. Wy’east is the bomb. Like Apizza Scholls they have limited dough and sometimes run out, and because of their(obvious) oven space limits you may wait a while. Call ahead. Order more than one. Trust me.

Okay, so sometimes I find myself writing a review that I wanted to be better(or worse, I suppose)…and then I find myself looking for ways to fudge in the direction I was hoping it would go. Wy’east Pizza is one of those… and yes, I fudged upwards a little. So, first off, it’s a pizza cart(trailer) on SE50th just North of Powell in a little parking lot on the West side of the street. There’s enough room to park a few cars, but they are also very bike/walk friendly. They have a table or two there(with a cover, even) but I’ve never availed myself of those facilities. I want the star of the show to be the pizza. Squish and Red obviously put a lot of thought, effort and love into their craft. They have their wood-fired oven in their trailer and very apparently love what they’re doing. The crust is handmade and strikes the perfect balance between. The toppings are blended well and the cheese is perfect… Now my biggest/only problem. There is an inescapable bitterness to the bottom of the crust. I don’t know if it’s IN the crust or something from the oven… but there’s no denying that it’s there and it, for me, dominates the flavor of the pizza to a distracting degree. This alone pushes the food down to 3 stars… so sad… :-( You may have noticed that this review is a 4 star review. Yep, count ‘em, 1 2 3 4 stars… Squish and Red, the couple running this fine little establishment, are two of the nicest and most friendly folks you have ever met. They are devoted to what they’re doing and obviously take great pride in it. They are talkative, friendly and knowledgeable and are the sole(dual?) reason that this is a 4-star review. Were that bitterness to suddenly disappear, I would run this up to 5 stars in no time flat… So yes, you could easily say that I’m a fan!

I have to second what a lot of other people said: to me, the crust tasted weird. Like burnt. Or nail polish remover. I tried to get past it. I licked the bottom of the crust and there was an overwhelming bitterness that was not present on the top. I am not exactly sure how they prepare the pizza but maybe if they prepared it on tin foil(instead of the bottom of the oven?) that would help? The toppings were great. The atmosphere was cozy and adorable. The people were among the most friendly I’ve met and seemed sincerely concerned for us to enjoy our meal. My boyfriend couldn’t taste anything weird. But after reading a few pages of Unilocal reviews, I know I’m not the only one who thought it tasted burnt/bitter. The crust didn’t appear burnt… there were only small, speckled dark spots. And maybe it was supposed to taste that way. But I couldn’t focus on the toppings or anything else for that crust flavor. They have a few picnic tables on-site for eating there and there’s a convenience store nearby if you want beer, drinks, chips, etc while you wait(or just to walk around in for a few minutes). They play music(it was mellow, vintage-sounding music, from Nora Jones to Billie Holladay)…it was a very cute spot. It’s on 60th so there is some traffic but it’s not the busiest street and around 8 o’clock at night, it was pretty peaceful. Wy’east offers a discount to bipeds(walkers) and bicyclists. They also accept phone orders(our wait time was estimated at 45 minutes and came out a little over that… it was fine, we just sat and talked but if you’re in a hurry you can call ahead). I would probably give it another shot because so many people like this place. Like, if my boyfriend picked it up for dinner, I would grab another slice and try to eat it. But I, myself, wouldn’t go purchase another pizza there because of the weird taste. And let the record show my partner couldn’t taste anything weird. So I might just be crazy! I’m sure if I would have complained, they would have remade it, there was absolutely no problem with the service or anything else. Sweetest people, cute little spot!

Pizza from a cart that rivals Apizza Scholls? Yeah, sure… that’s as likely as me turning into a domesticated and responsible parent and upstanding member of society, someone who shies away from debauchery and runs from unorganized mayhem. Well, ok, I guess stranger things have happened. Delicious pizza from a cart is one of them. 4 ½ weeks off from work, a long bout with an illness not transferred from pigs or ladies of loose morals, and a severe case of cabin fever had me longing to escape the warm confines of the stately Milwaukie estate. A trip to the strip club, a night of drinking or other forms of bedlam are no longer ready escapes, at least this early into the fatherhood game. However, the sirens call of pizza was enough to loosen the shackles of my self imposed quarantine, as I leapt at the opportunity to leave the homestead, even if it was to be just the pizza delivery boy, albeit minus the breathy call from the horny college coeds looking for that special home delivery. The cute trailer of Wy’east sits towards the side of a large lot and looks somewhat out of place amongst this mostly residential neighborhood. I arrived early as I wanted to try and avoid any lines as well as rush hour traffic; and I was happy to find I was the first customer of the day. Any apprehension I could have had of purchasing pizza from a cart was erased by the welcoming smile and excitement exuded from Squish and Red, the owners of this fine pizza establishment. I ordered a pepperoni and Margherita, and then had to make a quick trip to the Plaid Pantry for some cash as they don’t accept credit /debit, which turned out to be a blessing, as while there I remembered that I had no beer in the house. We all know that pizza without beer, at least in my home, is a mortal sin. Upon my return I chatted with these pizza artisans about pizza, fatherhood, the weather and post apocalyptic zombie etiquette. About 15 to 20 minutes from the time ordered my pies were ready, and I had to use every ounce of restraint to keep from opening the box and sampling a piece on the long drive home. Both the TLB and I were impressed. This truly is fantastic pizza, at reasonable prices from incredible owners. I will definitely be back, especially as they now are giving out their cell phone so you can order ahead. If you like pizza, you owe it to yourself to check out Wy’east.

Hot damn! This is some good eatin’. Melty top. Crunchy bottom. Beautifully cooked pepperoni with crisp edges. Angel the wonder mutt and I walked the 1.5 miles over to the cart this evening with a neighbor, and I would gladly make that journey uphill in the rain for this pizza. We had to wait a while because there were quite a few pies before our order, but that just meant we could sit, drink some Izzy’s, and smell what that magical oven was doing time and time again, each pie building our anticipation for our own. Plus they had water for the mutt, so that is always worth an extra star(or paw) in our book. Hot damn!

Yeah. I love it. I love pizza, but I’ve become pickier and pickier about what I’ll put in my mouth — even if it is pizza. This place makes damn good pizza. I worked at tons of pizza places… all the crappy ones, because I was a kid. But it was simply because I liked pizza so much. Now I require the good stuff, and this place has it. The pepperoni pizza was the bomb. My boyfriend and I were able to split one pie($ 12) and make a salad at home for the perfect meal. It was a very happy, cheap, delicious experience. The owners are great — friendly and engaging… even while they were busy. Feeling like some pizza? You can get a stellar pizza on the cheap from a couple of people that don’t get any cooler. Make the trip — you won’t be sorry… hey, and even if you are, you’re only out $ 12-$ 14.

As good as it gets is right! Sign me up, Wy’East, I’m your newest big fan. Located on 50th just North of Powell, this cutie-patootie lil cart sits humbly in a parking lot serving some seriously excellent pizza with a smile. Well, I guess the cart itself isn’t smiling, the two rad folks slingin’ dough are, but either way, this cart is TOPS. Four of us devoured two pies: margherita($ 12) and a 3 Sisters($ 13), with kalamatas, sweet red onion, and mushroom. We sat at the lone picnic table behind the cart with a perfect view right into the teensy kitchen to observe the masters at work. The ingredients are fresh, simple, and delicious and the crust has an awesome ‘bite’ to it, piping hot from the 800 degree oven. I still say Gladstone Coffee and Pizza is the best crust in town, but Wy’East right up there and they get about a thousand bonus points for character and charm that Gladstone does not. So I guess right there we’ve got our winner for SE pizza places. I’ll be keeping my eye on these folks, hopefully not in a creepy way… they’ve only been open a month or so and surely will get busier and more awesome as the months roll on. Thanks to a blurb on the website, I got a little smarter, too, learning that Wy’East was the original moniker for Mt Hood. Oregon trivia, I love it!

After reading all the reviews and conversing with the owner on Unilocal,I finally made it over to try Wy’east… on a 105 degree day. I was half expecting to find a closed up camper with a note on the door saying«come back when the world’s not on fire,» but instead I found 2 smiling folks serving up some amazing-looking pies from a cute little painted-up trailer on 50th. This is totally an odd place for a cart. It’s off the beaten path, on a medium-traffic arterial deep in SE. But that doesn’t matter at all, because the pizza is good, the people making it are super nice, and the price is right. The hungry bellies will come. For $ 12 you can get yourself a thin-crust 12″ pizza with a few toppings. It’s enough food for one overzealous glutton(cough cough) or 2 medium-hungry normal people. The pepperoni(my choice) is made with pep from Otto’s down on Woodstock. An added bonus! There’s also a Margherita option, a Kalamata olive/med-style pie, cheese, and a build-your own. They carry some Izze sodas for $ 2, so a pie and a cold one will cost you $ 14. Each pizza is made from scratch to order, so they take about 7 to 10 minutes to turn around. If there are a few pies before you in line, you may be in for a little wait. This is no matter, tho, as they have a little table right in front of the cart where you can sit and chat with Squish and his partner in crime, or you can retreat to a little picnic table behind the trailer in the weaving shop loading dock. It’s shaded by a nice big tree and set back from the street. A quaint little spot. My pizza took about 20 – 25 min to make(I was 3rd in line), and even less to eat. The crust is nice and thin, the sauce has a great spice level, there’s not too much cheese(just right) and the Otto’s pep is, as always, delicious. It’s a very well-made pie, cooked to perfection. Oh, and if you walk or ride your bike, $ 1 off your pie! I drove today, but I look forward to biking over on a sunny afternoon to try some more pies! Great folks, great pizza. What more could you want?
