had worst experience with dinner combos. We have tried food in so many chineese restaurants. This is the worst one I ever had.

Beautiful restaurant but, It was the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had! I ordered the General Tso’s chicken… The chicken was like rubber, they only gave 3 pieces of soggy broccoli and the rice was overcooked. If you go into any restaurant around dinner time and not one customer is sitting down nor getting take out RUNOUTOFTHERE!!! I was there waiting for my take out order and not one person came in, not even to pick up take out.

This used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant in town and than the owners sold the place and took off. The style and taste of the food seemed to change after that and soon what used to be an every Saturday night out became less and less. Last month I ordered take out to see if things had gotten better and I had a piece of steel wool in my lo mein, I understand mistakes can happen but I was extremely peeved, suffice to say I will not be going back. I really miss the old owners.

Like many downtown Poughkeepsie restaurants, China Doll seems to be struggling for consistent customers. I have enjoyed every dish I’ve ordered, and find their ingredients fresh and well prepared. As mentioned, the interior is down right fancy for my typical Chinese choices, and the owners are very sweet.

Noticed they had a «Grand opening» sign in front, but i have a feeling it has been there for ages now. Ive had the beef with broccoli, beef ho fun, and their fried rice. All of it, was amazing. They can make it spicy if you desire, and the food has that sear mark giving it a crunchy texture which i love. Ive made it a ritual to eat here every sat with my friends and no complaints. Maybe the Kenny G playing on repeat tends to get eeeiiirrreeee

Since China Doll opened a few weeks back, I’ve dined here 3 times for their lunch buffet with both friends and co-workers. I like the fact that the owners took the time(& had sufficient funds) to properly renovate this old, down-town building in order to make The China Doll a pleasure to dine in. There is nothing worse than eating a meal in a run-down, unkempt establishment of an old building. I’ve seen several of these kinds of places pop up in down-town Poughkeepsie, but China Doll is not one of them. While I did not order from the general menu, I can make a fair assessment from my lunch buffet experience that the China Doll chefs take the time to season the dishes properly and none appeared to have been too greasy, which can be common with Chinese cooking. Deep fried foods appear to be cooked in oil that is hot enough in order to prevent too much of the oil from seeping into the foods, but all the while not so hot that it imparts a burned flavor within. Service has always been prompt and friendly. Everything is new and clean in this establishment, and the selections at the«all you can eat» lunch buffet are varied enough that the cost of only $ 6.00 pp seems like a real bargain, if not a steal!
