Rubio’s

This place has been around for years. I grew up in pacific beach and tried my first fish taco back in the 80’s. It use to b the bomb! But since they expanded and sold to a bigger corporate company, it’s just not the same. The food is not as good as it use to be and the chips suck. I still occasionally will eat here cuz I’m a big fan of the grilled shrimp burrito but for 8.49, it’s not that good!

Went in on a Thursday for lunch around 12 pm. When we arrived, it was pretty dead, but after we ordered and took our seat it got packed. I haven’t been since they remodeled and changed the name a bit. I like it. If you are dining in, your food is served on real plates with real silverware. Pretty fancy.
Customer service was amazing. The gal that took our order applied a free birthday entrée to my co-​workers meal (good thing since I was paying) since it was his birthday. She was awesome and even gave in a cookie (i wanted to get him a coloring sheet and crayons… which they have for the kiddos).
I ordered the California Bowl with Grilled Shrimp. It came with lettuce, rice, black beans, pico de gallo, cheese, guacamole and your choice of either roasted chipotle salsa or salsa verde. I opt for chipotle salsa. They gave you a good amount of rice which was surprising. Mixed everything up and i was in heaven. I love anything in bowls so this dish was a win for me. My co-​worker got their 2 gourmet taco plate that comes with beans and chips or rice and beans. he raved about how good they were too. We also ordered a cheese quesadilla to share that came with guac, salsa and sour cream. Food was solid.
Their salsa bar has always been superb for a semi fast food place. WAY better to El Pollo Loco. I’d eat my arm first before going there. Their commercial always cracked me up.
The place was clean and the manager came over to check on us as well.

We love the food at Rubio’s, but the one at the corner of Community & Poway is a big disappointment.
Several times since we moved just down the street, we’ve gone in and had orders messed up. Simple things — dressing missing for a salad and chicken missing in a chicken quesadilla.
When we called to complain, we were told they could put our name on a list so that they could take care of us next time. Just the fact that such a list exists is not a good sign at all.
Unfortunately, we won’t be returning to this Rubio’s.

Restaurant is clean and roomy but the beans in the B&C Burrito were really plain, no flavor at all. Very disappointing as this one always what made Rubio’s B&C stand out. Waste of $ 4.89 Bummer if the spicy (peppered) beans are a thing of the past…
Folks behind the counter were friendly and the service was fast.

We come to this location a lot and I am particularly impressed with the servers and management. Everyone is kind and accommodating and I always ask for a custom salad and they get it right every time. Great energy here– I Am happy

i love the poway rubios. every single time i go in i get impeccable customer service and excellent tacos. i usually go in on tuesday when its so busy but i always get my food quick and with a smile. every employee ive interacted with has been so kind and welcoming and that’s really a rarity in my experience. just today i went in, with a broken foot, and it was clearly made known that if i needed help they were there for me. an employee i see there often, bailey, was on her lunch/​break and saw that i was having a less than great day and asked me if i was doing alright, that’s the kind of people you need to hire! truly caring. ¹⁰⁄₁₀ would recommend :)

This location closes at 9:00, not 9:30. We arrived at 8:58 and Debbie the shift leader was very gracious and was willing to take our order and provide excellent service. Thanks to Debbie and the staff for getting our order out so fast. I know they probably wanted to clean up and go home. Thanks!!! Great food as always!

Sad I had to write this review… Everyone here provides great customer service except for Loretta (short woman with black hair and always has a stank look on her face) and I believe she is one of the managers. I’m a regular customer because I work close by but today is the first time I’ve seen Loretta. She was rude right from the start and I was searching for my coupon and she says «I need you to move aside, I have a business to run here.» I was going to pay for my order and I was completely surprised by her lack of common customer service! I’m very surprised she’s a manager… Maybe she would take some advice from her employees whom give great customer service. I won’t be returning here after her rude little episode.

Went to this branch yesterday, must say quality n taste here for shrimps n different sauces were much better than in Mira Mesa branch. Everything tasted fresh n service was quick

Staff can’t keep up with orders. There were customers waiting over 30 minutes for their orders.

Since this isn’t my typical Rubios I’ll keep this short and sweet… The location had plenty of parking and good customer service. The food was consistent with the other Rubios I’ve been to. If I’m in the area I’ll be back!

I absolutely love their food. I’ve had several of their items and they’re always delicious. It’s not greasy and cooked just right. They’re always so friendly and professional.

We were in for dinner 4÷15÷15 the service from Luke was great. even asked if our dog would like a water bowl. Great customer service! & of course the food was bomb.

I’m from the east coast, where chipotle is king. Rubios puts chipotle to shame, in everything they do. I was surprised to even see a chipotle out here, how could they possibly survive?

This place is great I love the fish tacos they have here. I have been a big fan of Rubios for many years. There are not many places to get fast food fish tacos and this is one of the best places. I also really like the location as well. It is conveniently located near my home and I frequently buy dinner here when I am to tired to fix it that evening. The nachos are pretty decent as well.

I like this Rubios. I really love their burritos. Especially the steak burritos. It is always a toss up between here and Chipotle across the street. Usually I alternate between each place every other week. I usually get a side order of nachos as well when I order here.
I also like how on their website they have a list of how much calories each food has so I can keep control of my weight.

Pretty much what you’d expect from a Rubio’s. It’s the average standard for fish tacos I’d say. Pretty good for a national chain I’d say too. Too bad the competition in San Diego is so high!

CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EVERYTHING.
I work close to this location so I wanted to call in an order to go on my lunch break.
The phone rang probably ten seconds and when I heard someone pick up the phone, I immediately heard them slam the phone back down and hung up on me. Oh hell no.
I called back immediately and after 3 rings Michelle answered. So obviously SOMEONE was close by the phone. The first thing I told her was «Um I want to get an order to go, I literally just called and someone hung up on me. So I’m not happy with that.» Zero freaking acknowledgement. All she said was «Oh okay, well I can take your order.»
I picked my food because I was starving and didn’t have the patience to go anywhere else on a 30 minute lunch.
When I got there no one knew what I was talking about and my order «wasn’t written» down. Thankfully, I’m assuming Michelle, said, «If it’s a phone order, she called I have her order.»
What the hell kind of a business are you people running here?!
I even attached a picture of my phone calls so I don’t sound like I’m a crazy person making things up.
So annoyed with you, Rubios.

Um, FISH TACOS!
Went yesterday with the whole family (Tuesday, duh) and bought 10 fish tacos at $ 1.50 each. A family of 4 feasted on just $ 16. I can’t believe I’ve never gone before! The manager of this joint was super nice and treated their diners with a restaurant like experience by checking on them and personally bring condiments. The fish tacos come with corn or flour tortillas (the corn needs 2 wedges of lime rather than the 1) and they are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Paired with raw cabbage and the lime– yum. What tastes even better is the sweet taste of savings; so easy on the budget. There is no reason not to go back.
