I forgot to update our review when I picked up our pieces. They’re fantastic! Thank you, Marcy’s Clayground.

We decided to have our daughters first birthday at Marcys. Overall not such a great idea. I will note that we did not visit in person before the day. We saw pictures of the back room that they have and tried to get a good idea through correspondence. So when the day came we found out you can hardly fit any appreciable group in the space. We only had probably fifteen people but the whole store is just a very narrow space in a strip center. They have the sinks and cleanup in the very back so we were always in the way of other patrons as we attempted to enter and exit the ‘party’. After we got the kids done with painting their pieces and the party came to a close we were told we would need to come back once they were fired. Apparently we were just supposed to know they would be done in a week. Well, we didn’t. Called about two weeks later and they filled us in on that. Went and got the box of pieces. Couple slight disappointments there too. Our daughter, who’s birthday it was, got a plate with her name on it which we put her hand prints on. They wrote out the name at the time in pencil saying they would have some other girl ‘finish’ it by writing the name nicely since she was«really good at it». I guess it never made it to her hands. Our 1 year old may have done a better job in the end. Oh well, that piece was a ‘freebie’. Biggest bummer was one of our parties pieces was somehow swapped with some piece from another party. Seemed like an impossibility when I called about it, but yet some poor kid who can’t get back in there to paint another(out of town) doesn’t get the piece they’ve been asking mom and dad about for a couple weeks. Marcys may be a nice time for 2, 3, maybe 4 people, but the place just isn’t suited for groups any larger.

This place is a lot of fun! Our family of four stopped in on a cold and wet Saturday looking for something new to do together. We had a good time getting our art on(to varying levels of success). The process of painting your chosen ceramic craft is very relaxing. Similar to one of the canvas and wine type activities, though since you’re not trying to imitate a specific art piece, you’re free to do whatever you want. This could be either intimidating or inspiring depending on your inclination. The folks working on the day we were there were helpful instructing both the adults and kids on what to do and how to do it. I’m looking forward to seeing our creations after they’re fired later this week.

I had a great experience here! My boyfriend and I went on a Sunday and had a nice relaxing time painting. There is no studio fee so you don’t feel rushed and can take your time painting.
