It’s an a alright palace for breakfast they didn’t have much variety. I got an everything bagel with cream cheese but they only had plain cream cheese. I hear their lunch is very good but I though their breakfast was very mediocre. It Is however priced well.

I am slowly, but surely becoming a lunch regular — even when I pack a lunch. They have pretty good sandwiches that are reasonably priced. I really like the chicken salad and ham and cheese sandwiches. The staff is also very nice and service is quick.

I work In town and I love getting my lunch here. It’s great, lunch in Princeton can be pricy but the red onion is affordable and delicious!

Update: FYI, they don’t advertise it, but they do have gluten free bread if you ask for it! Yum! :)

I was looking forward to trying a sandwich from the Red Onion after reading the reviews and seeing the ratings. I ordered the Rueben Sandwich. It was disappointing. Tested like the meat was heated in a microwave. Bread was rubbery. Meat was also thick and chewy. My experience did not equal that of most of the reviews.

Great hidden gem in Princeton. I’ve enjoyed everything from their soups to their sandwiches– always unique tastes for very reasonable prices.

Best sandwiches in Princeton, especially if you’re not in the mood for something as heavy and life-threatening as Hoagie Haven. In particular, the tuna salad is to die for. The corned beef and pastrami are also very solid, and the bread on all their sandwiches is fantastic. The Red Onion is on my list for any visit to Princeton.

Correctly priced, high quality, large-portioned sandwiches, soups, breakfasts. Forget Olives, Olsson’s, Mamoun’s, Princeton Sandwich & Soup, etc. Red Onion stays above the fray, and by fray I mean price markup and quality markdown. For a sandwich, soup, deli basics, this is the place.

I love this place and go there almost every day-sometimes 2xs a day! The staff is great and work so hard to accommodate. The food is always fresh — and is my go-to place for soups, sandwiches, or even sandwiches-hold the bread!

Great Catering!!! This is also my Favorite Sandwich place! Plus the Soups are very fresh and clearly house made. I travel to Princeton a couple of times a year and often send clients as well when they are visiting campus. The service is friendly and very good. They make the truly best Deli Sandwiches and Deli Salads around, at a great price. Wonderful array of choices and those incredible sugar cookies are something I bring across the country when I travel. I recommended Red Onion to a friend on campus and they mention the Red Onion Catering every time we talk. I worry every time I visit that they might retire.

I really wanted to like them as an inexpensive hole in the wall alternative to Olives but I was sorely disappointed by my sandwich today. The bread was unbelievably dry and the entire sandwich didn’t taste too appetizing. I got the #13 as recommended in another review and was disappointed that the grilled vegetables were cold and frankly not very good. Altogether, the sandwich left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m reluctant to go back and give it another chance. The shop itself is depressing and small, and doesn’t look like it gets much business.

Deli sandwiches. Deli salads. Good and reasonably priced. Normally I wouldn’t have much more to say, but not here! 1) They have vegetarian sandwiches that aren’t just cheese. Soy cold cuts. Roasted vegetables and hummus. Brie! 2) They are efficient, friendly, and courteous, in a way that feels genuine and unscripted, unlike«would you like to add any item from our bakery for 99 cents» Panera. For these reasons, I’m a regular. Lunch only.

A solid place to grab lunch on the go. Great vegetarian options, including hummus and soy/vegan deli«meat». The employees are really friendly and the prices are very fair. Give this awesome local shop a chance the next time you are in town and looking for lunch.

I only give one star if the service is awful too but this place has legit awful food… The Reuben I got was microwaved, didn’t have sauerkraut on 2 pieces of bread from a bag. I should’ve just asked him to stop as he was making it but the counter is like 10 feet tall and you can’t see what he’s doing. Awful.

Legit. Number 13, Turkey roasted veggies with that Boursin cheese — it’s like goat but better. Mad cheap for the area. Holllla

I’ve been in Princeton long enough to frequent the lunch spots, and this place takes the cake for quality and kind service! Very personal– the guys behind the counter are patient, friendly, and will make your day. I got the Smoked Turkey and Havarti on sourdough– tasted delicious and fresh! Visit the Red Onion– you won’t regret it.

Delicious! The Red Onion is a friendlier(and tastier) version of Olives. It feels more homey and personal, as opposed to the assembly line style that Olives’ popularity has wrought. I had the corned beef reuben. Very very tasty. The rye bread was excellent. Also, the folks that work here were very jovial and helpful. Try it out!

I’m sad I didn’t venture into this place sooner! The guys here are so friendly and courteous and I love how they come out from behind the counter to greet their customers individually. The way the guy says ‘voila’ everytime he hands me my sandwich just puts a smile on my face. I’ve only ever had variations of their grilled veggie sandwich and it’s always great! Their bread is delicious, soft and fluffy with a chewy hearty crust. The roasted vegetables are seasoned perfectly and always very generously portioned. Based on the other reviews, I can’t wait to go back and try their soups and other baked goods too.
