Great experience at 14 Hands. Nice new tasting room with friendly, knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended to make it part of your visit.

Visited the tasting room today as it was highly recommended by a local friend and I’ve purchased the Hot to Trot red blend at home. The room is nice and welcoming so we bellied up to the bar. They offer tastings flights of both their Varietals and the Reserve so we elected one of each and tasted the Varietal first and then the Reserve to see how they compared. Each varietal was wonderful, but the Reserves were fantastic. We also ordered a cheese platter and when we were done with the tasting, ordered a glass of the Reserve Cabernet and took it out to the patio. A beautiful afternoon with a gorgeous view. Crystal was a wonderful host. We can’t wait to receive our first shipment as we signed up for the Cellar 14 wine club.

My girlfriend and I both enjoy the 14 Hands wine that we buy in stores. It’s tasty wine at an affordable price. When we saw the sign for the 14 Hands tasting room on our way to Richland, we decided to stop in and try some of the wines. For the wine tasting, you get to try four of the wines from their Reserve collection. The wines were decent but our experience was not as great as it could have been because our server seemed to think she was selling used cars. The whole time we were tasting the wines she kept pushing really hard trying to sell us one of the reserve bottles. She gave us her sales pitch about three times during the few minutes we were there. Even after we bought a wine stopper for one of our friends, she still kept trying to persuade us to buy some wine. It was a bit off-putting to say the least. If she had just tried to have a normal conversation and get to know us, we would have been far more likely to buy a bottle. Perhaps 14 Hands should have their employees read Aesop’s fable about the sun and the wind.

14 Hands is a part of the Château Ste. Michelle family of wines and carries a wide variety of wines, from sweet whites to bold reds. I made my first visit to the 14 Hands tasting room shortly after they opened and was blown away by the views and the wine! When you first walk in the décor catches your attention with the bright orange accents throughout the refer usher bar wood walls. After you have taken in some of the views your remember that you are actually there to taste the wine. After talking to the friendly staff, I skipped to the reserve wine tasting and was blown away by the flavors and quality of the wine! Since the first time I went to the tasting room to today they have expanded this list of Reserve wines to double the size it was a year ago. If you are intimidated by the world of wine, as I was when I first went to wine tasting the staff at 14 Hands has is a great place to start, and the prices of their wine won’t scare you away either. After going through the gamete of tasting they informed me that they offered a discount to wine club members and I was sold! Compared to most wine clubs that I have signed up for, where you are agreeing to spend about $ 600.00 a year, this club is four shipments of two bottles each. After the wine club discount it is about $ 200.00 a year. Not only do you get a discount on wine purchases but are also invited to the wine release parties to taste the wines as the become available for sale. To top it off they have wine maker dinners that allow you to meet the people responsible for the fantastic wine! If you ever have the opportunity to attend a dinner, I would highly recommend it! At the last one I went to, we got to bottle our own wine to purchase from a limited production, only one barrel produced. When we sat down at our table and started conversation with the other guests we were surprised to find that two of the people at our table were also Head Wine Makers. One from a sister winery in the Château Ste. Michelle family, Columbia Crest, and his wife who is the Head Wine Maker at Mercer Winery. Overall I will continue to go back to 14 Hands time and time again and would highly recommend it to new comers and seasoned wine drinkers!

New tasting building very conveniently located and decorated in the style of the region… horsy like. They will have a patio, garage style doors, and will have events for wine club members. Reserve wines for tasting not available elsewhere… I liked the merlot I particular. In case you were curious, 14 Hands is something about how they measure the height of horses. Hot to Trot, how they measure the hotness of the horses, haha. They are a sister of Columbia Crest, and they are going to make a big push to market themselves locally and nationally.

I was excited to learn that 14 Hands had recently opened their tasting room in Prosser just in time for my Walla Walla wine trip. The winery highlights wines that showcase the Columbia Valley terroir, and the name is inspired by the wild horses that used to run free through the area. Like the wine, the beautiful tasting room reflects and compliments the Horse Heaven Hills region. It invites you to come in and not just enjoy the wine, but the land that it comes from. The tasting room is also made out of actual wood sourced from barns from the region and beautifully painted with a running horse mural. The facility has indoor and outdoor seating, and even a working barrel room. Once inside, the large glass windows bring in lots of light, and spectacular views. The place was packed, and yet we were still warmly greeted, and shown a spot at the tasting bar. Our server was friendly and provided us with information about the wines and winery. I have had 14 hands wine several times before, so I skipped to the reserve tasting, which you cannot purchase except for onsite or at some fine dining restaurants. The wine as always was great, well balanced and full of flavor. There is a reason if in a pinch this is my go to affordable house red at many restaurants now. My favorites of the tasting were the 14 hands reserve cab, and 14 hands Moscato. This was followed closely by the 14 hands cab, 14 hands reserve merlot, and 14 hands Riesling. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like. Be sure to ask for the cool tasting notes pamphlet, a great little book to be able to jot down your notes in. This was definitely a great way to start out our wine trip, and was one of the top five places we visited.
