Honest Abe, if I could give him 6 stars I would. I have used Abe’s shoe repair for all of the 21 years that I’ve been living in Rhode Island. He’s not the smiliest guy that you ever met but he’s straightforward, honest, and reliable. And thanks to «Abe»(not sure that’s his name), my shoes never die. Unless they deserve to — and he’ll tell me that straight out — ‘don’t waste your time on that one’. I dread the day that he decides to retire. And I miss the dog. Please get another dog, Abe!

Great service and quality workmanship. The prices are very reasonable and would highly recommend. Used Abe’s twice and fast turn around do not hesitate to give it a try. Customer service is fine not sure what is up with the other posts?

This was my first experience with a cobbler. The heels on a nice pair of dress shoes had worn down to little nubs. In my younger days I would have just thrown them away or donated them. Since I spent some scratch on these, I figured I’d see what they can do. I walked in and asked if he could replace the heels and he snatched them from me and gave me a ticket. I was thinking there might be some choices or options… since it was my first time at a cobbler I figured I’d just roll with it. I came in a few weeks later to pick them up. He only accepts cash. It’s 2013 here. I rarely ever have cash on me. Huge inconvenience. I had to get to work so I just left. Fast forward a few months later. Now keep in mind Abe’s is about a block from where I work. Every time I would pass by, I would not have cash on me. He leaves a very bitchy voice mail for me to pick up my shoes. Fast forward a few months after that. He leaves a voice mail saying if I don’t pick them up that week he is going to throw them away. I find an ATM and pick up my shoes. They are fine. I think he is content having a slow, small shop with people dropping off one or two things at a time. If he did the math, he would have been better off paying a 50 cent credit card processing fee rather than having his work go unpaid for months. If I ever come back I plan on paying with a sack of nickels.

Prices are reasonable but the customer service is very poor. I called in to inquiry about cleaning and repairing 3 pairs of shoes my personal assistant had left with him. Definitely felt more like an inconvenience to whomever answered the phone that a prized customer. My two cents: Abe is good but not hungry for business. I will be looking elsewhere.

I have been going to this business for at least 40 years when it originally was run by his father. Service is exceptional and quick.

I went in to get some holes punched in a bag strap. He did a very sloppy job and punched extra holes that did not line up. I asked him what happened and he said the strap slipped. I would never let him touch anything else I own. He did not charge me, which is of little consolation for ruining my bag.

You won’t get better attention to detail here. Family business that has been around forever. You won’t find a better price. I’ve been here for polishing, sole replacement, fixing heels, etc, and I’m completely confident leaving anything here.
