So this is the«new» Club Hell, in so far as the people who ran Club Hell opened this place and it also the only goth bar I know of in Providence. I myself only went to Hell a few times, but enjoyed that I could see interesting acts(Jeffree Star!) and jump around to Marilyn Manson. Dive Bar is incredibly different from its original incarnate. Let me start by saying that I come here because someone I care about loves this place. I have been introduced to the people who DJ and MC here and they are all really nice and fun to hang out with. However that doesn’t change the fact that this bar is well… Not great. I have only gone here on Wednesdays and there was a cover charge of some sort. The middle of the week during a New England winter? Come on! But no, I get it, you’re located in down town, God knows what your rent is. Also, why is this bar in the middle of down town? I feel like it would have made more sense to have it in Olneyville, off the beaten path, industrial, a little sketchy. Before coming here each time I walked by I mocked the silly mannequins in the windows with the cheesy blue lights going over them. Not to mention Dive Bar is in the top 5 worst names for a bar ever. Ok enough of my ramblings, what is the inside/experience actually like? The ceilings are a lot lower then you expect based on the entrance. There is a pool table and I think a foosball table in front of you, bar is to the right, dance floor in the back, and to the left you have leather straps hanging from a rafter that are designed for a submissive to accept their flogging. There is also a table set up with like candles and a homemade sign, I don’t know what it’s about because I refuse to walk over there. I’m kink friendly, but the whole S&M component here(and at Hell) feels like more of a shtick than a place for people who share deviant sexual desires to convene. The bar set up is pretty sparse. I remember trying to order a Absolute Ruby Red with tonic. They didn’t have any Absolute so I asked for whatever vodka was top shelf, all they had was Gray Goose black cherry, no plan old Gray Goose. I skipped it and had a Sam Adams. Place doesn’t get busy at all until way past 11. If your an attractive young lady, expect creepy old dudes to STARE at you the whole night. Music surprisingly is mostly top 40 type stuff that’s been mixed. I heard a little Die Antwood, one Smashing Pumpkins song and one Marilyn Manson song. I had fun because of the people I was with, not because of anything the bar had to offer.
