ATTN: Vegetarians! The Dok has fantastic VEGAN options that can easily be mod’d with cheese. Try the chichpea quinoa burger, Quite possibly the best veggie burger in PVD. Also love the veggie Reuben! I suspect by the quality of their veggie food that their meaty options are bangin’ Omg I almost forgot their house potato chips are off the chain

I really like this place! First of all, you walk in and it smells DELICIOUS… like barbeque sauce. Gets you nice and hungry for an awesome sandwich. I’ve had the Super Tuscan Italian grinder and the Havana Gila Cuban sandwich and both were great. I love that they make a lot of their deli meats, cut their own chips, and brine their own pickles. Prices are reasonable, my orders have been filled quickly, and each sandwich comes with a wax paper bag of their homemade chips. I don’t usually eat chips but I eat these! They’re delish and a nice touch. They also have a burger menu, some salads, and nice vegetarian/vegan options as well.

Imagine, as a first-timer, sitting right in front of Dok’s Deli staff at an un-busy time and waiting for your food for almost an hour, only to find out they gave your order to someone else. And THEN imagine they took twenty minutes to bring out your food, only to give you the wrong fries with your order. Sigh. Dok’s, you’re killin’ me! Now, I wouldn’t be so annoyed about this experience(no big deal), if their customer service was better. They didn’t initially apologize for their mistake and only later did they offer a side dish. I actually had to ASK to to be comped a sandwich. I kept thinking, «I’ve waited almost an hour here, you gave me the wrong side dish already… seriously??» Because I’ve been in retail and food, I know proper procedures for something like this: you immediately apologize, expedite their food, and comp them for their meal. It’s really that simple. Obviously, the wait staff needs some better training from the manager.(Good on them though, at least, for later apologizing and honoring my sandwich request.) Besides that, Dok’s was solid but not worth the expense. Their $ 9 burger, for example, had a thick meat patty(a plus!), but tasted like a typical cafeteria burger. My Roadhouse, too, had lots of meat, but lacked flavor other than the meat. I could taste a mustard of some sort, but really, that sandwich needs a sauce. Even our fries and chips had a blackened taste that really overwhelmed the dishes. Needless to say, I won’t be coming back.

The Havana Gila — Hand carved ham, sliced smoked turkey, house brined pickle, Swiss cheese and Dijonaisse sauce, grilled to fabulous flatness on Pan Cubano. I thought I would start my review with the actual menu description of the sandwich I had. Add to that their house made chips and a small side of fabulous potato salad, and I was in utter sandwich heaven. It wasn’t cheap at $ 13(maybe next time I’ll forgo the potato salad as the chips come with the sandwich), but the sandwich was incredible and worth the premium price as compared to other delis. I could tell that the meat was house cooked as the turkey and ham had a delicious smokey flavor, and… and…I mean come on, do I need to go on? This deli is so good I can envision myself coming here at least once a week. I now have a mission to try as many different sandwiches as I can and maybe one warm summer afternoon I’ll eat outside at one of their tables. Thanks Dok, you’ve renewed my faith in delis.

I tried this place for the first time today on a sunny afternoon. Had a prime time sandwich(roast beef) and a beet and walnut salad. The food was quite good, and the portions were good; I eat a lot so I wouldn’t mind slightly larger portions, but this was definitely more than average. The service was also very good, both helpful and friendly. The home-made potato chips that come with the sandwich were delicious. Why not 5 stars? The prices were kind of steep for a neighborhood deli. Sandwiches are mostly $ 9-$ 10, which I would expect at a decent restaurant with table service, but not at a order-at-the-bar and sit on a bench outside place like this.

Are you the kind of person that finds the smells of smoked meat, caramelizing brown sugar, and ground coriander intoxicating? Then this is your kind of place. Its not a typical deli, thinly sliced cold cuts laid in a torpedo roll. No, instead the emphasis is on house cured meats, locally sourced greens and salads, a slice of fresh sourdough or rye, and a steamy, hearty soup. I’d swear the Roadhouse sandwich was made for me. A series of my favorite fatty and meaty, smokey flavors layered one on top of another. The home cured bacon settling into a bed of freshly smoked and seasoned pastrami, corned beef, a slice or so of cheddar and the clever Swazey Sauce. A fantastic sandwich, so carnivore it feels a little out of place next to some of the more delicate vegan/vegetarian menu bits, yet there it is, in all its glory. You want to really enjoy your lunch today, sit down and savor a bite or two of a wonderful sandwich like this.

Wow! That was a good sandwich! And I am a sandwich expert to say the least… I ordered the Mikey-T with delicious turkey, bacon, cheese and housemade barbeque sauce. The barbeque sauce was out of this world. Wonder if they share that recipe?! The Havana Gila(their version of a Cuban) was absolutely amazing. Cuban sandwiches are my favorite and the house brined pickles hit the spot! The fresh grilled Pan Cubano bread was so warm and tasty, I have never had it like that before — very creative! The sandwiches come with some housemade potato chips too, very tasty as well. I noticed that they offer gluten free bread which is nice and a bunch of vegetarian options as well. I can’t wait to go back and try a few different ones and the side dishes looked really good, even though I could really go for another havana gila right now… mmmmmm I hope they get on a deliver schedule soon so I can order at work :)

As far as I can tell, this is the closest you’re going to get to a Jewish deli in Providence. While an honest-to-God Jewish deli wouldn’t go amiss in this town, Dok’s does a great job filling the need for delicious sandwiches and fast service. I usually elect to make my own sandwich. My favorite is a concoction of my own design — turkey, swiss, and potato salad on rye with Russian dressing. I know, sounds crazy, but you’ve gotta try it! I’ve tried an assortment of sides to go with it, my favorite were the sweet potato fries. I also always buy an extra pickle to go with my sandwich. I really, really wish a whole pickle came standard with their sandwiches but I’ll cut them some slack on this front. The menu has lots of other delicious options. I know I’ll probably never try them because sandwiches are delicious and why mess with perfection? But I am glad they’re there, because it means I can bring friends here for lunch whenever I want and know we’re all going to leave happy!

Stopped in for a havana gila and a salad. The sandwich was very good, love the bread they make it on. I would probably ask for more mustard and pickles but I tend to feel that way about many cubans so thats just me. The sandwiches are slightly overpriced and that is comparing to similar type gourmet sandwich shops. If they included a real side and not just chips it would be about right. I also would prefer smaller less expensive sides to overpriced oversized ones. The salad was just ok. Some of the lettuce was iffy, on the going bad side, and the chickpea dressing was bland. it sounds good in theory and it could be good but it needs more flavor somehow, didn’t taste like much of anything. I highly recommend Annies Naturals. The only line of dressings I am addicted to. It would be a nice unique option for a small sandwich shop. Garlic, goddess, shitake. all amazing. Just a suggestion. Doks is an ok option but I am still waiting to be blown away. Do not go in the bathroom unless it is absolutely necessary, just no

Time for an update since Dok’s seems to have upped their game a little bit over the past few months. I don’t live too far away from Dok’s and come at least once a month. The Roadhouse has become my regular, and I still love their fries. So why the upgrade to 5 stars if I get the same thing all the time? The last few times we’ve visited, 1) the service has been really good, 2) the food has come out a lot faster, and 3) the portions on the sandwiches are ever so slightly more generous. When Dok’s first opened I felt like my first few sandwiches didn’t have as much meat on them and were a tad sloppy(which wasn’t necessarily bad, it just made the sandwiches harder to handle). The last few sandwiches I’ve had there have been ginormous in a good way, and Dok’s seems to have also streamlined their bread system– for a while they were kind of unpredictable in how much they toasted your bread. Lately it’s been a lot more consistent and the sandwiches are better put-together, not falling apart. …Yay Dok’s! Now that Ugly American is closed(which really sucks) I am even more grateful than I was before for Dok’s presence on Ives Street.

Seriously to die for. I would trade a vital organ for one of the corn beef sandwiches. They take cash or credit, no organ bartering. Just saying. The owners mom is one of my clients. She mentioned that her son had recently opened a «fresser» like deli in Providence.(«Fressers» is this amazing jewish deli in Randolph, MA. The food is delish but the hours are not so it’s closed before I get out of work.) Immediately I had to try it! The meats are all house cured. You can also buy them by the pound. This sandwich was like crack cocaine. I got corn beef, swiss, russian dressing on sour dough bread. They grill them so they’re all melty oooey gooey delicious. I was literally drooling on myself. The hand cut fries are not to be missed and the house made ketchup, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm… Did I mention they make their own pickles? They have deals on but prices are extremely reasonable. Expect to pay around $ 9 for a sandwich. A huge, heavenly sandwich. They are open 11−8pm. I made the mistake tonight of calling at 7:30 to order a corn beef sandwich. Silly me, corn beef sold out! I can’t imagine why. So I’ll feen all day at work tomorrow until I get back to RI and visit my favorite sandwich dealer.

Guys I thought the replacement for United BBQ would be a step down. How in the world could you step up from that?! Dok’s managed to do it, by combining the BBQ feel(and grills) they have made those tasty beef briskets and other BBQ staples into awesome sandwiches. Heck even their Cheesesteak is great(and I lived in Philly) which appears to be removed from the menu. Probably only a special. Take it from me guys all their sandwiches are pretty tasty. Go with roadhouse fries too as a side, just slabs of delicious meat over fries. Guys, just like they tell you, eat, you’ll feel better!

I discovered Dok’s a week ago and I’ve already been back again. The in-house assortment of smoked meats and bacon and homemade dill pickles makes me oh so happy. I’ve sampled the buffalo turkey wrap and am still thinking about it. Smokey turkey, hot sauce, blue cheese chunks and celery on tomato wrap– Yum! The Havana Gila is Dok’s take on a Cuban sandwich and it does not disappoint. The house ground brisket burger is also quite good as are the house chips.
What’s nice about Dok’s is they sell their meats so you can take home some smokey bacon or tasso ham or pastrami for later. There’s plenty of on street parking and the staff at Dok’s is great. On my most recent visit, my little one was asleep in the car so I parked directly outside the front door and the girl at the register was oh so sweet enough to bring my order out to me. I’m dreaming of my next visit now. What will I order next…

I’m from New York, and I’ve been hoping for a great deli for a while now – a place with a wide variety of meats, breads, sides – and unfortunately, Dok’s doesn’t fit that bill. The restaurant pales in comparison to United BBQ, the former tenants of the building, which consistently served up cheap, tasty, homemade BBQ. I ordered a brisket burger, which came charred on the outside, raw(like, really RAW) on the inside. My friend got a grilled cheese sandwich that she liked but didn’t love. While I only got to try two items from the menu, overall I was disappointed by the lack of sandwich options. There are about 10 sandwiches on the menu, and more effort seems to have gone into naming them than making them.(Not that much effort, though – take, for example, the ‘cheesy grilled cheese.’) To Dok’s credit, they seem to use fresh, high-quality ingredients. They just need to spend some more time figuring out how to use their ingredients in cool, creative ways, instead of just slapping a hip name on an uninspired ‘wich.

I don’t want to be the Debbie Downer in the sea of positive reviews, but Dok’s really is just ok. The ambiance is sleek, it’s very clean, and they have a few outside tables… but beyond that I’m just not feeling it. I’m a vegetarian, but I still have a soft spot for a good sandwich place. From a distance the menu seems veg-head friendly; a veggie burger and a rotating vegan option of the day, but on a «tasty scale» I’m giving the burger a 5. The«veggie monster» looked so sad on the large bulky roll, the bean sprouts seemed out of place without any other toppings on the burger. I mean, who’s a girl gotta screw to get a slice of cheese? If roast beef and pastrami are your bag, give it a shot, but vegetarians and vegans I’d beware.

I’m in love with this place. Finally a decent sandwich option that isn’t fussy. I’ve tried a turkey sandwich and the chicken salad sandwich. Every morsel is nice and smoky — why? Turns out they kept the former tenant’s(United BBQ) smoker so all their meats are cooked in house and oh so delicious. The also make their pickles, chips, and side salads in house. I hear they’ll be making a pulled pork sandwich out of said smoker come football season. This guy will be there for the first batch.

Oh, mighty sandwich gods: thank you for shining your love down on the PVD and bringing us this new and glorious spot called Dok’s, where the meats are house-cured and the ingredients are farm fresh. We’ve been waiting a very long time for such a bounty of wonderfulness, and ye shall not go un-thanked. Dude, Dok’s is fan-freaking-tastic. The minute I read the very first review, I know I had to go. I knew I had to get The Mikey-T(smoked turkey, house-cured bacon, BBQ sauce and cheese with your choice of veg), and I knew I would fall in love. Well, today was the day that all of those things came to fruition, and I am one happy little piglet. In addition to the thirteen menu items, Dok’s has daily specials and a make-your-own board that you can get as creative or boring with as you like. They’ve also got soups, salads, sides and a special menu just for kids. Additionally, each to-go order gets a pickle and chips on the side, all for under $ 9. Another awesome thing? You can order the deli meats by the pound to take home and make sandwiches with all week long. Pretty sweet, if you ask me. Why is this review lacking that one last star, you ask? Well, I would have loved to have my sourdough bread toasted, and I would also have loved to see the to-go containers be something other than styrofoam –but that’s just the hippy in me. I waited a while for the two sandwiches, too but I’m happy to excuse that, as perfection does take time. Bottom line: I’m a HUGE fan of Dok’s and I’ll be back very soon!

Yesiree… I’m a Dok’s fan. House-smoked, brined, and seasoned meats, locally sourced produce, daily specials, vegan and veggie options, yummy pickles, homemade potato chips, great mix of classic and quirky options, rotating soups like matzo ball and kale and chorizo, and lotsa add-on options like sweet potato fries and apple cider slaw. And some solid«Dok» humor, like«Write your own Rx» as the menu header for the build your own sandwich combo and«Doktor’s Orders» as the header for the main menu. Tots adorbs. So far I’ve tried the Veggie Monster and the Brisket Burger. The VM was made with lotsa love. An original recipe, pan seared patty(potato and chick pea base) dressed with sprouts for some killer crunch. The burger was tasty, though I should have ordered it with cheese. I loved the unexpected side of red cabbage, though I was surprised that the burger didn’t come with chips like the sandwiches do. And of course, everything comes with a pickle. Prices are good. Location great — Ives St, where United BBQ used to be. Ample parking. Ample selection of other restaurants, bars, and stores to choose from as well! It made my lunch that DOKHIMSELF came up front to ask how everything was and explained a bit about the vegetarian options and the process of creating the Veggie Monster patty. The stuff that 5-star ratings are made of! What would make it a 5? Asking if I wanted it for here or to go before giving me a to-go box, napkin dispensers on the tables and bar, improved communication(never was asked if I wanted a side, or what my name was so they could deliver my Veggie Monster). The devil is in the details, but the food has been great so far and the atmosphere is fun, modern, and clean.
