Attended the Indigo Girls show at Lupo’s last night, or rather, attempted to attend but ended up leaving during the opening act. My wife and I were looking forward to attending this show. We purchased two 65 dollar seats in the«orchestra» section — front row. Upon entering the section, security checked our tickets and showed us to our seats. When I came back from a visit to the bar, my ticket was checked once more and once more I was shown back to my seat. Several minutes later we were approached by another member of the security team, asked for our tickets, they were checked again, and security left. Right before the opening act, a bar employee approached us and we were told that we were in the wrong seats. We showed him our clearly labeled tickets which matched the clearly labeled chairs. He said we were misreading both ticket and chairs — my wife is a BSA and I teach English Lit. so I’m fairly certain that between us, we can read. This person then showed us two seats hastily added to the bar section at the side of the seating area. These seats were directly in front of the amplifier stacks with a very restricted stage view. The seat labels did not match our tickets and when I pointed this out, the employee told us the labeling was an error and he ripped the stickers off the chairs. We are now at the point where we ask for a manager. Several minutes later, a young woman shows up, nothing identifies her as an employee and she has a drink in her hand. When we inquire as to her authority, she says that she is a manager, and is own her own time tonight. We ask for her manager, she says he is not at the club(later we find out that he was indeed at the club) this young woman continues to tell us that we misread our tickets, offers to buy us a drink, and tells us that it would be wrong to remove the couple now occupying our seat. We ask to speak to the manager yet again and my wife is taken to him. I stay because if I leave, the pseudo manager, tells me, our new seats will be considered«given up». I choose to stand towards the back of the section to preserve my hearing and my dignity and a security guard is posted next to me because a middle aged women can be very dangerous. When my wife returns from speaking to the manager, she tells me that he in the rudest manner possible, upheld his employees assertion that we misread our tickets, and that our claim that his venue was either double selling premium seats or that some vips of the club or band were promised those seat(our seats were given to a middle aged straight couple — as was the entire row.) was not true. He dismissed my wife and her argument by offering to downgrade our tickets to General Admission but would not give us back our full purchase price. We were then told by our personal security guard that we were not allowed to stand in the back — even though the General Admissions ticket holders were standing two feet away from us. We could either sit in our seats of shame, damage our hearing, and not be able to actually see the show we paid for or we could get out. We got out. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a venue like this — treated as if we were second class citizens to cover their own shady business practices. Dismissed and minimized because, as we all know, middle aged women are not to be taken seriously and can be treated poorly because, really… who gives a sh%# about them. I will never go to another even at this club and I will be sure to let everyone know how poorly they treat their paying customers.

Easily one of my favorite places to see a show. The staff is amazing and has always been really friendly. Sound is good no matter where you are and I’m short, never had trouble seeing the stage. Love this place!

Wow, it’s been almost three years since I’ve been to Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel. I can’t even remember what show I went to, but I found my notes for this place. The sound wasn’t amazing, but security was super nice and they had Shock Tops for $ 5.50. I used to tour with bands… ages ago… and Lupo’s has been around forever! They’re doing something right!

The Bouncers weren’t very friendly to me and my friends so they will get a thumbs down from me. I drove to Lupos From NJ to see a show with three of my friends. My friends and I are 24, 25 years of age hfemales. We entered no problem but when it came to getting wrist bands to drink, there was a huge issue. My two friends got there wrist band after showing them bank cards with their names on it. My friend and I had issues. Why we would have a problem with our ids idk we are all of age with Valid Government Identification. After one bouncer rejected me I crept my way to the other. And it just so happen I got the wristband no problem. My friend wasn’t very happy and in the meantime asked to see someone higher so she can get the wristband. After looking through«some books» they gave her a wrist band. They tried to pull that in the State Of Rhode Island you need a State Drivers License in order to drink alcohol there… They had to be kidding me!!!

Good Venue I have going to this spot for over 20 years and the show setting and sound are always great. It’s a fairly small amphitheater where you can’t get a bad spot to watch a show. Sometimes the place can be a bit overcrowded and maneuvering can be a struggle. Most of the famous shows of my childhood were at this venue and the shows always seemed to be good. If your looking to check out a show in a nice intimate setting then this place will do the trick. Tip: 4 dollar Narragansett Tall Boys are the best deal Thanks

I went here when it was freezing outside back in Feb. of 2015. I had never been here and I had a great time. We had seats up in the balcony overlooking the stage, like stadium seating. We were high up, but still had a clear view of the stage and band. The seats were very comfortable! They moved back a little bit, which I thought was weird, but it was not a big deal. There were a lot of stalls in the bathroom, which was cool. This building is really old, and I could tell by the ceilings, but it was really cool at the same time. To get to our seats, we had to go up many flights of stairs, so I did not care for that because I hate heights. Luckily, there is parking garage right near the venue, which you have to pay to park. But, it was totally worth it. There was a place within walking distance to eat and the food was really good! I would definitely go here again.

Went to a rave tonight. Because we were older, the woman letting us in told us that we were creepy. So, it’s ok to let teenage girls in, wearing just bra and panties, where they serve alcohol, but, a man in his 40s, who nearly died in a car accident, and enjoys the music and wants to see a show, the likes that he’s never experienced before, is creepy? I think she needs to re-evaluate her principles. We were there for the show, not the kids. I’m sure that a true pedophile would have waited outside the place in his van, instead of paying $ 120 to get in.

Lupo’s is a great place to go to see a band play. I wish I could get to it more often because I enjoy the show everytime I am there. There isn’t a bad place to stand in the venue and there are plenty of bars to keep you from getting thirsty. Like all concert venues, the drinks are pricey so bring plenty of cash. Lupo’s is that perfect dark, dirty, and run-down concert venue you have been looking for. They bring in great music and an excellent variety. Defintely worth a visit if you like good live music.

I wish all concert venues were more like Lupo’s, and less like the House of Blues in Boston. We’ve been to Lupo’s twice now: once to see Deer Tick last summer, and more recently to catch Gogol Bordello. Lupos is dirty, loud, messy, and tons of fun. It is the kind of place where as people stream in, you are sure they had sex and got high in the car beforehand. At the Deer Tick show, someone collapsed from whatever, and I’m not trying to sound insensitive here, but I think she collapsed from rock n roll. The crowd at Lupo’s is rowdy and awesome. If you are young and want to mosh, you can stand in front of the stage and have a stranger punch you directly in the face repeatedly. Not really my scene these days, so I stay one level back, and the crowd is still a tremendous amount of fun, singing along to the music, dancing, and just being there to have a good time. The coat check is hilariously slow because the people who run it are on drugs, and the coats are stored in some distant room in the deepest reaches of the building, apparently a 10 minute walk from the desk where you check your coat in and out. My advice is to hop out during the encore break and grab your coat. Or just stick around inside and drink yourself silly until the line gets shorter — nobody at Lupo’s will mind.

Went to a St Vincent concert here Sunday night(3÷08÷15) with my boyfriend and his mom and it was really fun. The place was really nice and bigger than I thought which is always a good thing. Though it was crowded I did have a good time. Though the bathroom was down this weird hallway and the guy in the doorway was making sure everyone had a ticket even though they were just going to the bathroom, there isn’t really much I could complain about with this place.

Went to see Jimmy Eat World here a few months back and a few shows since. I do enjoy the venue. It’s smaller than your typical House of Blues, the sound is really good. They need to work on being able to move the lines a bit quicker when accepting people via general admission. Also if you’ve never been there and are walking down to the floor there are stairs that are very poorly lit. There was at least three people I saw fall down, very unsafe. Unfortunately though unless you want to drive to Boston it still is decent for Providence.

On the inside, Lupo’s is a great place to see music. Whoever complains about the bathrooms or the carpet obviously never stopped by CBGB’s before its demise, which should tell you something. It’s like an old vaudeville theatre that’s never been updated — original peeling paint and everything — but good lighting and sound, and nice big stage can be seen from everywhere. It’s nice to get a balcony seat and then go back and forth for two different kind of experiences — balcony is pretty high so you see the whole stage looking down, then down to the floor and you can get closer to some pretty big acts on the functional dance floor than you would elsewhere. The staff was a little rough around the edges but I didn’t act like they owed me anything and they seemed fine — they zipped my webticket at the door and welcomed me in, and let me back and forth to the balcony throughout the show with a nod after showing one guy my ticket once. The bouncers were strangely perched on bar counters too far away from performers to help them but whatever. One of the best places to see a show in New England, I would give it 4 ½ stars if possible as the area is not great, walking alone after the show might be a slight issue and you have to walk a couple blocks to find human food. Park at the mall, do not pay $ 10 as you get off the highway ramp. Learned that the hard way.

Been here twice, first time I saw new found glory play and the staff was extremely rude from the beginning. They have short tempers and just made the first time experience unpleasant. The second time around I went was 2 years later and I though why not give it a shot. Again the staff was rude. A friend of mine was a support band for a day to remember and I had guest passes. Security decided I had to leave backstage, there was no reason for me to leave at all. Later that night I stuck around at the front to hang with everyone at the Merch area. Another guard was being an idiot and tried to force us out. We were just about to leave anyway and start packing up but he insisted to be a legitimate asshole. The guard started shouting and we told him to calm down but wanted to get physical. A cop was right there to stop it but then the staff decided to try and gain up on the cop. After a few mins it calmed down to the point we decided to never come back. It’s a great location but like many business’s seem to be hiring rude people who hate what they’re doing. Don’t go here!!!

caught a flight from Denver to Boston last minute, got Amtrak to Providence for this show, no coat check, no bags allowed, charged me for a ticket, searched my bag&said it wasn’t permitted inside,(while wondering why they searched it if it wasn’t allowed, went to stash it) & hear«NOREENTRY!»… got THEBAND to stash my bag, wasn’t given entry&was asked to leave by some old drunk after the old cunt at the door said I wasn’t allowed back in listened to whole show from outside(sweltering inside, go fuck yourselves), then partied afterwards with the bands upstairs(free beers&schmoke), BECAUSEFUCKYOU. good

I am a huge Lupo’s Supporter. I’ve been seeing shows by my favorite bands since the age of 14(and boy has my music taste changed) Great place, great view from anywhere you stand, and its awesome that I can walk right up to the stage to see my favorites.

Divey but it’s definitely large enough to accommodate half of Providence when a good gig rolls into town! I can’t hate it because ATLEASTITEXISTS! There were bars inside and there was plenty of room to dance and talk. It’s obviously a gutted theater and that concept alone has always given me nausea. This place specifically reminded me of another divey location in Pamona, CA. All that being said, ITWASBIG. THEBANDSWEREAWESOME. What else could you want? It’s no Belly Up. It’s no Greek. But at least they have music and at least they have room! *they should always open the balcony, a lot of people just want to be voyeurs and that’s hard to do from the very back on the bottom by the bars*

Lupo’s headlines many act in a year and for good reason. the place is large and can hold a huge crowd. The acoustic of the venue are not very good but if your a band that plays very loud sets then it really does not matter. As a spectator the view of the large stage can be seen from everywhere and most of the area is standing room. The bars are large and the are the best place to hang out during a show for easy access to a drink. Don’t expect to hand the bartender a credit card in this place… if you plan to drink bring plenty of tens not twenties. Parking in the are is challenging and many of the side streets can get dicey so if you plan to go travel in groups when leaving late night shows. My advice would be to park at the hotels up the street and walk the block to Lupos .The main streets are well lit and have foot traffic. All in all Lupos is a good place to catch you favorite group of band if they make it to Providence.

Was here on 11.14.2013 to see Grouplove and J Roddy Walston and the business. Very nice looking place compared to some of the venues we have in CT. Rich and beautiful interior, the place was huge inside. Though there is a limited selection on draft, I was surprised at how many craft beers they did have, and there are several bars within the venue. Not sure if it was Providence or the headliner but real pleasant crowd — combination of trendy hipsters, supervising parents, and everyone else in between intermingling made for an enjoyable experience. The first floor is standing room only, but decently sized. From what I could tell, the mezzanine seating was about 10 rows of the balcony. Only one area for the bathrooms but they were well maintained and there was plenty of real estate. No food options but there a few food trucks outside the venue. Although they don’t have a private lot, there are several parking lots located along Washington Street as well as several parking garages, including the Providence Place Mall. Really nice venue, looking forward to coming back!

They don’t always open the upstairs which is disappointing if you’re an old person as I claim to be and just want to sit and watch. Also impossible to get a drink most of the time. Also, way too crowded. Some girl punched me in the back the last time I was there because she shoved me and I shoved her back. Not the friendliest patrons. Don’t lose your chip if you go outside to smoke, they won’t let you back in.

GREAT place to see a band! Staff was excellent, even for a rowdy show.(Respectful of patrons, but firm when needed to be.) BEAUTIFUL interior. Great bars.(Selection is a tad limited, but, it’s a venue bar, what do you want.) Great sound. Oh, and drunk girl with a cup of beer? Please stop trying to clap. Thanks.
