Seriously? I haven’t reviewed this yet? I’ve been here several times already and then it pops up here on Unilocal for me to review. Woops! That certainly doesn’t mean that I forgot because this is a forgettable place. No. It’s probably one of my favorite Indian food places here in Providence. The one thing that would really make the big difference is if they delivered. They do do catering but trying to transport all that food would be a nuisance. Most Indian restaurants are unlikely to veer from the regular tastes that people crave when they see an Indian establishment. Not so in this case. Not Just Snacks really has a different take on the curries you normally experience elsewhere. Not sure if it’s the spice, or just a different region of India but the food is different making it very intriguing to me. We had the mutton curry, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken and the Palak Gosht. They were all fantastic! Very inexpensive and surprisingly not a busy place. Plenty of parking along the streets and plenty of seating inside and out. They also have a display case in the front that have a few treats you can take with you. The painting on the inside is a little strange, but eh you can ignore it!

I really was craving indian food and wanted to try someplace new, so I decided to finally stop in and order dinner to go from Not Just Snacks. I ordered the lentil soup and Chicken Tikka Masala which I found to be a little runnier than I would prefer. It was very good but not memorable. The Lentil soup was DELICIOUS however there was an ingredient in which I could not figure out that was tough and almost wood like… It was inedible but easy to pick out. But as far as flavor goes… That could be the most amazing soup EVER! I also found it to be very expensive for the portions… I spent nearly $ 20 on a few things and each of them were about half what I was expecting. I wish I liked it better, I really do!

This used to be our favorite place in providence. Maybe an off night… I don’t know, but the chicken tikka masala was super watery and the nan and rice tasted old.

My golly Not Just Snacks has been my favourite Indian restaurant for the last two years since moving to Providence. One of my former roommates got me into this delightful restaurant and I’ve been addicted since then. Whether it’s a cold winter day and you get samosas for take out to heat up and eat at home or a sit down at the restaurant for some delicious curries it’s comforting, relaxing, and wonderful. I always love a good vegetable samosa, palak paneer or butter chicken, everything tastes wonderful. I’ve also had the kababs and naan bread, they are so filling you’ll make it to bed dreaming of more. The staff there are darling and sure it’s not a «hipster» or «fancy» restaurant with its simple décor and their metal plates but it’s the food and experience that matters more, right? I wouldn’t change a thing about this place. Can’t wait to have some more soon, thank you for delicious Indian food in Rhode Island!

I wish I could give no star at all. Worst restaurant I hv ever been in US. The food is so bad. They dont serve fresh food. I ordered masala dosa, the filling was old as it tasted like it was made few dats before and the dosa was not at all crispy. I ordered chicken kabab that was also not at all good. Totally i wasted my money here. Guys dont go there instead go to manosalwas or masala for Indian food.

We live close by and frequent this place all the time. The food is super delicious. They are always very nice and friendly when we come in. It is a great place to order take out if you are passing by in your way home. They are really quick to fill orders. Also, the market across the street is a gem!

Tied for first for me in providence for indian food! DELICIOUS! Definitely the best naan I’ve ever had. The place is on hope st and isn’t much when it comes to ambiance. The food is unbelievable! I am a fiend for Indian cuisine and particularly vegetarian curries. My favs are the bihndi masala(spicy saucy okra), navartan korma(creamy kinda sweet veggie medley), and vegetarian cocktail curry(saucy veggies), with basmati rice. I always get garlic/cilantro naan, veggie samosa, and sometimes paki puri(crispy puffs you crack and fill with chickpea salad and sauces). My husband likes the chicken tikka masala and my Sri Lankan friend is crazy about the mutton(sometimes chicken) vindaloo. Run by great people and always a savory spot. If you like Indian food, definitely check it out!

For a while I wavered between Rasoi and Not Just Snacks as my favorite Indian food place in Rhode Island. Now I know for sure that Not Just Snacks is the winner. It’s clear that they’re not going for ambiance. You’re going to have metal plates/cups and some standard setting. Perhaps I’m in the minority but most times when I want Indian food I’m not going for ambiance. Rather, I want a mountain of curry and a basket full of naan all served quickly and efficiently. That’s exactly what you get, too! Service is efficient, courteous, and friendly. What you won’t get in ambiance you’ll get in value and flavor from the food. Prices are very reasonable and it’s BYOB. The menu is also a bit smaller than the average Indian restaurant. I like to get the chicken tikka masala which tends to be spicier than what you’d at the other nearby indian restaurants. Naan is always fresh and delicious too. Be advised that if you order samosas for take-out, they will be room temperature. Worry not though, they reheat marvelously.

Let me preface this by saying that the people who run the place are very nice, as are the servers. I love supporting local businesses and honestly it gives me no pleasure to write this review. That said — having traveled India extensively(and on an shoestring budget) — I really think that no Indian person I have met(in the US or India) would eat this food. From the flavorless papadum to the one-note(heat) chicken tikka masala, beef curry and navratan curry — it is Indian food in name only. Something akin to what one would expect from World Food Day at your local high school cafeteria. Here’s hoping they can turn things around.

In our RI land of Indian restaurants, by far Not Just Snacks(NJS) will be the best bang for your buck! We like to refer to it as «Uncomfortable Snacks», don’t come looking for ambiance here– bright lighting, metal plates/cups along obviously with the silverware, and nice service although maybe a little strange at times. They do have outdoor seating which I have not had the pleasure of enjoying just yet. However, it’s right on Hope St, so I’m sure people watching is top notch. But in all seriousness… SOGOOD! I feel like NJS is a little spicier than the usual but oh so delicious. My staple is a vegetable samosa which is huge and like $ 2! Their entrees are no more than $ 10 and are a very generous helping with either basmati rice or naan(nom nom nom). Since I was there last they extended their interior dining room to next door so should be no lines no waiting! I’ve been here on Valentines Day and when all other restaurants are booked up, NJS had ample seating.(Possibly because of the lack of ambiance) ;) It is also BYOB. I totally recommend for a cheap date or if your craving some Indian spiciness you can’t go wrong!

If your a fan of all that is good fair honest and delicious then this is the spot you must seek out. Flavors are done deliberately and preciously. Love the thali and their presentation is very traditional and simple. This is one of those places you want to come everyday too.

This place is awesome. Good authentic Indian food for unbeatable prices. The service is friendly, but can be a little slow sometimes. Really consistently good food, always followed by some fennel seeds to cleanse your breath(instead of a mint). I always order an extra meal to-go, it’s so delicious and cheap.

The hype is justified. I’ve been here 20 times and never was disappointed with the food. It’s a hair pricey but the flavors are divine. The ambience isn’t great and the service is good, but if you come here, it will be for your palette’s sake. Beef curry, tandoori chicken, malai kofta, and the vindaloo are all stand outs to my tastes.

How have I not Unilocaled Not Just Snacks yet?!? I will immediately bestow upon myself 420 lashings as punishment! NJS might just be my favorite restaurant; a no-frills place with outdoor seating and the best Indian around. Sometimes I’ll even just swing by for a less than $ 2 samosa just for the hell of it, cuz I have ca$h to burn! Seriously, the food is great and the staff is super friendly. Try the goat dishes, they are out of control… and the outdated décor only adds to the charm!

If you want fast/great, low-priced Indian food, this place is hard to beat. You can also run across the street to their flagship store for rock bottom-priced spices, too.

This is a fantastic place to drop in for some quality, inexpensive Indian fare. Or enjoy the delicacies, on site, especially during the summer, when their outdoor patio can be utilized to the fullest. The infrequent appearance of videos and jewelry for sale, in the basement, will certainly make you forget where you are and although not worthy of conjuring visions of open-air bazaar’s in Calcutta, these details tend to stay with you. Much like the aromatics that cling to your sweater, for hours following your departure.
