I’m on the border of giving this place 2 stars, but I wish there were 2.5 stars. The music was decent. They were playing techno/dance music. The place had no cover, so that was nice. This place was well stocked, but didn’t serve MGD or even Miller Light. The place wasn’t a little less than half packed. The décor was pretty modern and updated and had many seats. The parking lot had a $ 5 fee, so any place you go to around there, you have to cough up the money to park.

Amazing lounge, amazing staff, best DJs in the city, and an awesome liquor selection to match. Tip: Even thought State Lounge is a night club/bar they actually have great oven pizzas and some other small appetizers such as bruschetta and crisp salads. I have had a few of the signature martinis which they make by muddling fresh fruit right in front of you. They are unlike any other drink I have tried. The Pineapple Basil is killer! @Kat v: I have gone to State many times and have never noticed the staff to be «clicky». State Lounge is one of the more expensive clubs in Providence, and they get people from all over NE. If you work in the bar industry you should know that bar owners cater to people who spend the most, not just who have been sitting around the longest. Sucks but that’s how it is everywhere. I would highly recommend State Ultra Lounge to anyone looking for a place that slings unique cocktails, offers the hippest techno beats, and has the sexiest crowd.

The place is a lounge, nothing more. Very comfortable and tastefull. At night it’s a club, and the best night of the week is Wed.

Ok — after a recommendation from a friend, we drove all the way from Boston to see some DJ’s here. Shortly after getting into Providence and asking around we found out the place was pretty new, it was an outdoor party, and the bar had a reputation of fairly ‘elite’ clientele. Alright, I thought — not what we thought we were coming down for, but at the same time we are familiar with this world, music and patron wise, so hot damn… let’s go! Well, hhmm — it was disappointing. We showed up late, technically, but were still the first people there. So while that seemed odd for a Saturday night, it gave us time to walk around and check the place out — inside and out. Also, the liquor vendors/promo ladies were nice and the venue itself is pretty cool. Whoever designed the place did a spectacular job with the décor! Now considering it was fairly slow, there were a lot of open spots at the bar, etc — you would think it would not take long to get a drink… you would THINK. We walked to the bar, cash in hand and the bartender did not even make eye contact with us for 5 mins. Really?! If I would have done that, my GM would have fired me on the spot and filled that shift himself that night. I understand there is a desire to come across cool and aloof in the ‘up and coming’ bar industry — but not to the customer base you are supposed to serve. Work with me here. I would not have thought twice about the wait had he been busy, but he was watching sports on the TV and talking with his friend and some girl sitting at the bar — walking past us each time. I digress… The outdoor set up was great because the weather was amazing. Up until this event, I had had yet to find good trance/house/drum&bass/triphop/top 40 remixes(yeah that is a mouthful, but I want it all — I am a good DJ, I am used to be surrounded by good DJ’s before moving here, and I expect good DJ’s in New England.), thankfully I was pleasantly surprised by the DJ’s they had come in that night. As the night went on the crowd thickened a little, still not as much as I expected — but I will never complain when I have enough room to move(hell, sit!). What was strange, was the staff — the managers and staff paid attention to their friends and ignored obviously new patrons. We put quite a bit of money into drinks that evening, on more top shelf liquors and no one said a word to us. We talked to other patrons, even bought a few drinks for others — but the staff almost had a click, very strange. Needless to say, while the venue itself is great, and the liquor selection is great — I would not recommend this place to anyone. The staff leaves you with such a cold feeling it is really not worth going. You can go somewhere, pay the same(or more likely less) and get treated much better. There are a lot of options in Providence so I would suggest trying those first…
