Disappointment = Mushy toast under my eggs Benny, coupled with the massively large egg shell included with my poached egg. Service was poor. It seemed poorly managed and unnecessarily chaotic.(Especially considering it was less than ¼ full) PVD has so many breakfast options. Try some place else!

Food = 5 stars, atmosphere = 5 stars, service = hit or miss. Love that they have dog-friendly, outside seating. The brunch is always fabulous. Everything I’ve had from eggs to salad to freckles has been superb. They have an unlimited standard mimosa for $ 10 or a build-your-own customizable bloody mary and mimosa menu. Genius! Been here several times and yet to be disappointed.

Brunch open everyday? You had me there. It’s a disappointment how few places are open mid-week for brunch. Don’t get me started RI. So this is such a welcome spot. Décor is warm and well designed-always happy to enter the place. Both times I have not been too adventurous sticking with the wonderful Lobster Benny– had me at lobster and avocado. So good! Today my friend had the shrimp and grits and man were they tasty! I believe the chef is particularly proud of that dish, rightfully so. Darius? our server today was great. He was upfront about not being the barista(we literally walked in at 10am) but he was super friendly and honest, which I prefer if something isn’t going to plan. Big fan of this place, don’t get out much lately due to new little one at home, but place is worth the limited availability I have, and did I mention mid-week brunch. Yeah. Go!

Time to update my Succotash review, and I’m afraid the news is not good. I’ve visited for lunch and brunch a handful of times over the last year and experienced a lot more misses than hits. Most recently I suggested going to Succotash for a Saturday brunch with out of town guests – mostly because it was going to be 10:30am on a Saturday, and I knew we’d have no trouble getting a table(obviously a bad sign). Our server was attentive, but in a strangely abrasive way. The food was a step below mediocre… edible sustenance. I was charged $ 16 for 2 small glasses of a $ 10 «bottomless mimosa». Overall, we paid a lot of money for a pretty forgettable dining experience. The space has so much potential, and some of the dishes on the lunch menu aren’t too bad. I just feel like Succotash is a middling rudderless ship in need of a leadership team that can really take control of the service and menu, and turn it into something more.

I’ve been here several times and I usually leave feeling very satisfied with my experience. The place itself is adorable — I love the way it’s decorated! The service is friendly but if it’s busy don’t expect your food in a timely manner. Weekday for lunch is a good time to come as it’s almost empty at that time. The food is quite good overall. I’ve tried the pulled pork and smoked salmon bennys and they are delicious! For lunch their angus beef burger with sweet potato fries is just heavenly. I wish they could do ½ and ½ with regular and sweet potato fries, though. I recommend against the greens with cornmeal catfish and oranges — it was pretty devoid of flavor. I also love that this place serves a variety of drinks, including coffee drinks, juices and smoothies. They also have a build your own bloody mary bar, if you’re into those. I will definitely come back to Succotash, but not if I’m on a tight schedule.

For a city of its size, Providence has plenty of good restaurants. A friend and I wanted to try this place after hearing some good things about it. I wanted to love this place, if for no other reason, than the name itself. I’m a huge fan of Southern cooking, including cooking with a Southern twist, with family from North Carolina. I was disappointed. Food, service, price, and ambience ALL matter. My chicken pot pie with homemade biscuits was good, and so was my friends’ bourbon steak, however the service left a lot to be desired. It was a Wednesday with only a few of the tables complete and we felt a bit neglected by our waiter. Aloof and no-nonsense are the first words that come to mind. The person who seated us was friendly. I’m not sure that’s enough to keep such a business in business for very long. I will say that the décor is pleasant, consisting of some fine woodwork and I appreciate the lighting and the overall layout of the space. The one thing I was confused about were the flat screen tvs in the bar area. There seemed to be an identity issue. Is this a café, bar, restaurant, sports bar? I’m not sure. At any rate, with the quality and quantity of places in the area, I“m not sure I’ll be running back to Succotash anytime soon.

So I was hesitant to try this place based upon a lot of reviews complaining about the service… I have to say — maybe my expectations were low to begin with but the girl that handled our table did a great job. She was quick to explain the brunch specials as well as the make your own Bloody Mary menu. The waitress and other staff were quick to offer a refill of our water glasses when needed. I opted for iced tea but 2 in our party had Bloody Mary’s and were very happy with them and the fact that they could be customized.(Pickles, olives, jalapeños etc.) I got the Farm Stand — «Three eggs, bacon, grits, buttermilk biscuit & Jay’ Will’s Sausage Gravy» $ 11 Let me say — wow, that’s a lot of food! The eggs were cooked as ordered and had some good flavor(although 2 eggs would have been plenty), the bacon was tasty but slightly undercooked for my liking, grits — well they were grits! With cheddar cheese on them. I didn’t grow up eating grits — so I would never order them over home fries or Hash browns but they weren’t the worst tasting grits I’ve had! The home fries were tasty red bliss, seasoned nicely. The buttermilk biscuit smothered in a sausage gravy, was soooo delicious! Definitely a highlight of my order! We also ordered a side of corned beef hash to share — it was ok, nothing too special. One dining companion had the BBQ burger with fries and another had the smoked salmon omelette with a side of sautéed spinach. Everyone agreed that they were very happy with the food and would return! Now, we had a leisurely 2 hour brunch which I thoroughly enjoyed… I would not recommend trying to grab a bite on the run here since it does take a while. I thought the delicious food and having time to actually converse with our friends was the perfect combination for a great brunch.

Tries too hard to be something it’s not, and it’s certainly not a very good place to eat or drink. There’s been a great change in the last few months, and none of the best. The mixed drinks taste non-distinct, the chicken tenders are bland and dry, and the service yearns something to be desired. I heard the brunch menu is decent, but I don’t know considering there are so many other choices out there. Food: 2 stars Price 2 stars Drinks: 1 star Service: 2 stars

I heard great things about the food here, the terrible things about the service. With an entire morning to kill I thought having brunch would be a great idea. And it was! My friend and I both had the basic French toast which was really delicious and hit the spot. We also each had two mimosas with various fruits. My only complaint of those is that they were quite short, but the price probably indicated that. I’m giving this three stars primarily for the service. The lights were flickering going out the music stopped about halfway through our meal but the staff was quite jovial about it. It didn’t slow down the service. The problem with the service was at the end. We were not quite finished with our drinks and enjoying conversation. the waitress came up and told us that she had to go take care of some family emergency. She went into a lot of detail and urged us to go ahead and close out our tab. It was unnecessary and unpleasant. It definitely sullied the experience.

Pretty decent brunch. Nothing really stood out in a bad or good way. Passable bloody mary. Nice décor though so it might be an interesting place to hang out at the bar for causal drinks. Our waiter was a very sweet guy, who unfortunately was clueless. Forgot multiple things, we could never get his attention, and had to ask another waiter for our check because he was MIA. Overall passable, but I’ll try a new place next.

Another good spot for weekend brunch, glad i ignored the negative reviews on Unilocal and thanks to the Rhody magazine for the nice article about this place! Ordered the BBQ pork shoulder benedict and bloody mary(of coz!). Waited 20 minutes for the food but it was worth the wait, the pull pork blended perfectly with the egg yolks OMG it is benedict heaven!!! Love the idea of making your own Bloody Mary, u got to pick the vodka(well or premium), spicy levels, and even your own garnish(they have a long list of choices from originally celery carrot pickle veggies to exclusive bacon cocktail shrimps etc). Definitely go back and cant wait to try their coffee next time! Reason of taking one star: they wouldn’t let me to have a to-go! weird!

Although there were some negative reviews, I have been wanting to check this place out for myself. I have been here two times now. The first time was pleasant and The hostess greeted us with a smile and some humor. The second time, the hostess acted like we were a bother to be there. The waitress was so hyper, I was afraid she had«taken something» before her shift. She was actually mispronouncing menu items, it was scary. I like the décor, which consisted of barn wood, metal, candles, white leather booths– cozy yet modern. Now for the food. I ordered the chai tea latte, which was delicious, but very small. I also ordered an omelet and the Classic French toast. It was all okay, not great for the price. Omelet came with home fries, but very few. It also came with homemade ketchup(sounds like an idea caught from another restaurant in the East Bay that I know…) ketchup was good though, a bit spicy. Maybe more of a hot sauce? We also got the classic French toast. It was exactly that. A bit boring. Two pieces of toast, a little dry, and some syrup. The décor shows they pay attention to detail, but not so much with the food. I was mainly disappointed in the size of the coffee cups and lattes. $ 3.25 for a 3 sip latte. Oh well.

I went with my BF last night for dinner. We had gotten a Living Social voucher for one app, two entrees and two drinks. I was excited since I had heard great things about the food, but I was a bit apprehensive due to the reviews regarding poor service. We were seated promptly and our waitress was just wonderful. She was always smiley, she was attentive and very helpful regarding any questions we had. I had a mint lemonade martini… a bit sour for my taste, so I added some extra sugar… great. My BF got the bourbon martini and he liked it very much. My BF had the chicken and waffles and it was very good. The batter was nicely seasoned and crispy. The waffle was a bit dry, but a good side for the fried chicken. It came with a nice side of watermelon pieces and sliced cucumbers. I had the sweet tea rubbed ribs with cajun rice. Very good. Nice tender, fall off the bone ribs with a spicy rice(I eat spicy and this rice was very spicy! but good and edible). The experience was very enjoyable… they have all kinds of specials during the week, check it out…

Our waiter Eddie was beyond great! He was sooo attentive. if this review were based on him, it would be 20 stars! I had French toast and bacon. It was bland and the bacon was not thoroughly cooked. My friend enjoyed her eggs benedict very much, so that was good. It’s a nice place, tho I was very distracted by the big screen tv, in the background, playing horror movies. I’ll return and try something more daring.

Sometimes it takes more than one visit to get the full effect of a place. Or in my case, four visits. Here’s how it went down: First visit — We had brunch and the place relatively empty. Ryan was swooning over their freshly made apple juice. I was in love with their polenta fries. The services was slow but sufficient. Not bad. Second visit — We came back for lunch. I didn’t take advantage of their make-your-own mimosa option but I did have some peach bourbon lemonade that was quite amazing. My burger was meh. Service was still really spotty. Third visit — We came back for brunch and waited by the hostess table for about 5 mins. When she finally came to say hi, she asked how many and said there would be a 30 min wait and then walked away again. Unless she has a great memory, I’m not sure how she knew the order in which parties were being seated because there were at least 6 other groups ahead of us. Needless to say, we walked out. Fourth visit — It was as if Succotash threw a Hail Mary during our meal. Ryan and I came for dinner on a Friday night and the place was packed but comfortable. We were seated pretty quickly and our waitress was wonderful. They do an awesome thing on Friday called«Friday Night Flights» and you can choose between beer or bourbon. We both went with the bourbon and it was wonderful! We ordered the polenta fries again and they were even better than we remembered. Ryan went with their famous Chicken and Waffles with fresh maple syrup. I went with their epic grilled cheese(pretty sure there were at least 3 different kinds) with BACON. We topped off dinner with a pumpkin cheesecake and quickly fell into a food coma. Gotta say, Succotash really impressed me and I hope this means that they’re finally ironing out all of the logistics of their place. The restaurant itself is beautiful. We’ll definitely be back!

Boy, we really wanted to love this place. Came in and appreciated the lighting, the music, the décor — all good. Beautiful marble bar and those awesome chandeliers. Unfortunately, our experience was anything but beautiful. We came in early and the place was not crowded. But still we waited for service. Asked for a tap beer recommendation and the bartender couldn’t come up with one… stepped aside so we could look in the beer cooler and make our own picks. Honestly, the bartender was so completely unfriendly — seemed downright bitchy and annoyed that we were there. The staff seems to talk to themselves, rather than their customers. We were there for about an hour and the bartender talked to the cook pretty much the whole time. When we asked another staff person behind the bar if we could order some food for him he said«what?» as if irritated. Then said, «don’t you have a girl?» which sounded so sexist and annoyed. Then he sent someone else to take our order. Then the bartender showed up and finally put the order in(still not speaking to us or making any eye contact). The actual appetizer we ordered(BBQ shrimp) was tasty, but 3 shrimp seems a little skimpy. The entire staff seem to have zero training(one waiter was standing at a table trying to take an order and ended up taking the menu from the customer and standing there reading the menu with a puzzled look on his face while the customers just watched him). It’s as if none of the help understand that they are actually operating a restuarant where customers come in and order stuff. Hopefully they will turn it around as it is such a nice space.

A very nice addition to the Jewelry district. Honestly, this poor area needs some help and great food is one way to pick it right up. Succotash likes to pride itself on the southern element, but in reality I find the healthy options are what set it apart from the typical American fare. For an appetizer I highly recommend the polenta fries. What a great idea to have cornmeal in a french fry. Oh don’t get me started on the apple juice. Yes, I said apple juice. Just order it and tell me it doesn’t feel like you are drinking a whole apple, even right down to the bite of the apple skin at the end. Very, very good. For my entrée, I went with the turkey burger. One of the best I have ever tasted. I find TB’s to be really tough to make, the taste is just really bland to the point where you have to load it up with toppings. At Succotash, they grill the thing nearly to perfection giving it a nice gril flavor. Well done, sir. If you are looking for a nice change of pace in the rat race that is Providence’s dining options, check out Succotash and you won’t regret it. Word to the wise though, parking is at an extreme premium and the lot next to Blount’s is only for Blount’s and the café across the street.

I love Succotash! Since I discovered it less than a month ago, I’ve been back five times. Three for breakfast and twice for dinner. I’m not ashamed. I love their juices, their lemonade, their s’mores waffles, their chicken and waffles dinner, their banana pancakes, their burgers, their homefries, their frickles, I just love them. Oh, and the outdoor patio, I love that too. Want eggs on your burgers? Done! Want some fried pickles? You got it! Want some eggs benedict on waffles? Totally! The food is creative and fun, the staff always pleasant and cool, and the bill is never outlandish. One of my new favorite Providence restaurants.

My summer bucket list this year included trying a new restaurant. I was looking for a place to gather my friends for my birthday dinner. Then I spotted Succotash one day when I was heading through the Jewelry District. BINGO! First, the staff was ABSOLUTELYWONDERFUL to my friends and I. They treated us like kings and queens. Special shout-out to Sean and Alix(the evening’s bartender and wait staffer) who really were simply fun and fantastic. I will absolutely go back to Succotash(and bring others) simply because of how awesome the staff was. The vibe and the décor made me feel a little like I was in Charleston(and I do love Charleston). I like the mix of indoor and outdoor seating. Inside — the mix of high tops and regular tables. I like the chalkboard with the pig and the other board that announces all the ingredients for smoothies. Frickles. Done and done. Fried pickles = awesome. My burger was delicious — and since we were a table of 10 — there were many other plates that we tried. No one left disappointed by their meal.(Yes, someone tried the biscuits and gravy… there were rave reviews). We were treated to dessert — I could not tell you which was my favorite. But it might have been the cinnamon-y bread pudding with the peach crepes being a super close second. I tried the watermelon bellini — nice and summery. My friend had the basil lemon gimlet(will get that myself the next time). There were many voices of approval as we tested offerings from the bar. Love the use of fresh fruit or herbs. Now to try the brunch…

I’ve been to Succotash twice now for dinner, but haven’t yet been for brunch. I know, shame on me! But what I can tell you — is that their dinner is delicious! Finger-lickin good southern food awaits you, so listen here cowboys& girls — because your taste buds are about to get jealous! Start with some fried pickles for your table. Think of it as the equivalent of chips and salsa. One order should be fine for a party of two or three. If you’d like a starter for yourself, I’d try either their biscuits and gravy, or the turkey chili. Both are filing and delicious! I highly recommend getting a burger here, but can also tell you that their brick chicken will have you licking your plate. The turkey artichoke sandwich is a bit too soggy for my liking — maybe too much dressing/overly buttered toast… I don’t exactly know what was wrong… but I won’t be getting that one again. Enjoy the outdoor seating, grab one of their fabulous cocktails(the blueberry is delightful) and have a fun time with a date or a large group of friends!
