We’ve been going there regularly for the past 4 months. We hesitated writing a review since we didn’t want to let out the secret of this place but they deserve a great review. It is absolutely fantastic! We are partial to the breakfast menu. The scramblers, omelettes, eggs benedict, French toast, Belgian waffles… you name it and every single time everything has been cooked to perfection. The service has been equally great. Everyone is very kind and attentive even when the place is jam packed. Any negative reviews on here just baffle us as that couldn’t be farther from our experience. It is our neighborhood spot and we love it!

We go here fairly frequently since there is a clear lack of true diners in RI. Classic diner food. Always consistent and tastes good. A bit on the pricey side(2 people over $ 24??) for a diner. Waitstaff is really hit or miss. Some days they are mildly pleasant, other days pretty miserable. Owner only seems pleasant to the more regular customers.

We have been here quite a few times and the food has always been consistent. I am finally writing this review because this establishment is one of our favorites and I will explain why. It’s a diner… that is all… no smoke and mirrors… no gimmicks… just honest food and service. The food is very good and has a refreshing home cooked feel… nothing fancy… just delicious. On our last visit Alex was our server. He must be new because we haven’t seen him yet. He was phenomenal! So attentive to our requests and great with our children. Bravo to the staff and management for giving us what we REALLY want… just a diner! I highly recommend this restaurant to anybody and everybody.

Read the Unilocal reviews, decided to give it a shot. I love a good diner. Ok diner food, nothing special. Bleach blonde waitress got weird on me: I was sitting at the counter;busboy rushed by carrying his tub. and knocked my bill off the counter. Waitress comes by and says: «Did you throw it on the floor?» I say«I did not» She looks at me straightfaced and says: «I think you did.» um, wtf? We all have bad days, and I can forgive a lot, but that was bizarre, not to mention totally rude. Worst part? I think she may be the owner. Prices were amazing to me, and not in a good way. Had a greasy omelet, toast, side of hash, sausage, coffee(weak) — $ 18 bucks ?? I don’t think so. Paid the bill, won’t ever be back.

I’ve been going here on and off for almost 15 years, figured it was time to write short review. My wife and I recently went here for lunch and I was blown away with my order. I love fish and chips; I’m a junky for them and living in Rhody, I’m not wanting for lack of choices. When you think of this dish it’s generally a battered(sometimes with beer) piece of white fish(scrod, haddock and the like). By nature this dish tends to be a little greasy, sometimes a lot greasy. But not at Wayland Sq. Diner! First of all the cook came out to our table to ask if I would like the scrod or haddock(I choose scrod) which was pretty cool. Then when our server Maureen(call her Mo, super nice) brought out our food, there was a good size piece of haddock that the cook had made just so I could taste it! Both were delicious and totally grease free(pretty sure he said it was a cornmeal batter). The cook came out again to see if I liked the fish(loved it!!). My wife had the reuben and that was delicious too! An unlikely place to find a great fish and chips, I always thought of WSD as a breakfast joint, but no more. Very friendly service, great food.

I’m very happy this place is around the corner from me! I’ve eaten there several times and it is all you would want from a diner.

We couldn’t find space at any of the«fancier» brunch places in Providence, so we came to Wayland Square. We were seated right away and service was FAST! Food came out like seven minutes after it was ordered. I was basic and stuck to the eggs, homefries and toast. Everything was pretty decent, but the HOMEFRIES were the icing on the cake. They were very well cooked and had onions in them. I thoroughly enjoyed the contrast between the *smush* of the homefries and the *crunch* of the onions. Yum! Since the food was more of a «Yay» than a «Woohoo,» I’m giving Wayland Square Diner 4⁄5 stars, but this is definitely a good brunch backup and you have to try the homefries.

Everything you want in a diner: a large menu, quick service, and delicious pancakes. The bathroom is in the basement and requires literally walking through the tiny busy kitchen, but everyone is nice and let’s you through.

Not sure why I’ve avoided this diner in the past 6 years… I love diners and this one’s pretty solid. Granted, I’ve been 3 times in the past 2 months and I keep ordering the same thing cuz really, it’s good! Mexican scramble and a single pancake on the side. Somehow they get the beaten egg/cheese mix to be rich and creamy and the bite of salsa and meatiness of the chorizo and black beans tops it off. I just can’t get myself to order anything else. Why fix it if it ain’t broke? And believe me, I hate repetition so this is a big allowance for me!

Had a really good breakfast in the comfortable and clean Wayland Square dinner(slightly more upscale than Maria’s in Pawtucket; newer/fresher décor — but with a similar neighborhood feel, and Wayland takes credit cards). Good eggs, excellent fresh and well-spiced hash browns(better potatoes than Maria’s). I liked the menu option for a half order of waffles or pancakes, one egg and a meat — usually have to order off the menu for that! The blueberry pancake was fine — nothing special, a bit skimpy on the blueberries. Four not five stars? Our pancake syrup was stringy, like it was heated to the point of turning to maple taffy — could have been a one-time thing, though. The coffee cups are very small, and they were one waitress short of keeping my cup filled(Maria’s definitely wins here!). If there was a coffee carafe for every table this would be at least a 4 ½ star place, maybe 5. We will be back.

I write this as I am tasting a delightfully sweet lemon meringue pie from Wayland Square Diner. Excellent service, super friendly staff and don’t forget the tasty food. This is why I keep coming here. On a Saturday morning we stopped in for breakfast a quaint table for two called to us near the back of the diner. Cute tables are on the sidewalk offering outside seating too. The diner is a throwback style, booths line the walls a few tables in the middle & the length from the middle of the diner is a long counter. Busy with happy customers we are attended to promptly with menu’s & our drink order. Talk about choices! Pancakes to omelets, scrambles, sandwiches & more. Plus the daily specials. Everyone is sure to be pleased. I ordered a breakfast sandwich on a english muffin with potatoes & a hot tea. I love, love that they have decaf hot tea! So this gave me a big smile even before the yummy food. Our breakfast came out hot and timely. The sandwich was too big & ended up being a fork and knife sandwich situation. The diner hummed in a low rhythm of merry chatting & chowing. The check came & I was surprised how affordable such a big breakfast was! P. S They have lunch too!

After a really disappointing experience at Louis, I resigned myself to the fact that I couldn’t get good diner grub in Providence. If only I had known about Wayland Square Diner – this is what Louis should be like! I love how clean and sunny it is in here! And our server matched the interior with his sunny disposition. Best of all, the food came out insanely quickly. I had the omelette special, which was a corned beef hash omelette. Even though the eggs were surprisingly delicate and light, the omelette really filled me up. I thought it was funny that they sprinkled dried parsley on top. Such plating! The home fries too were great: perfectly seasoned with paprika etc. and crispy. They didn’t seem drenched in oil or butter like at some diners. All in all, a really satisfying meal for $ 9.50 – I think they raised all the egg prices by $ 1 due to the egg shortage. The patty melt was smothered in sautéed onions and sandwiched between buttery toasted bread. The cheeseburger was pretty good, too: the patty wasn’t particularly«medium,» but the toppings were fresh and plentiful. The chocolate milkshake is a must-try! Even without ice cream(that would make it a cabinet), it’s really fluffy and sweet. My only gripe is that I wish they used better quality sliced cheese. The cheese slices were the extra thin kind and looked a bit translucent and gross on the patty melt and cheeseburger. Still, it’s cool that you can choose from about 7 different types of cheese, including feta. Wayland Square Diner is everything a diner should be: fast, friendly, affordable comfort food. I can’t wait to come back and try some more of their many omelette varieties!

I’m a big fan of Wayland Square Diner because it’s close to my apartment and the food is lights out! I don’t know why I don’t come here more often. The pancakes are always perfect, their home fries are seasoned nicely, and the portion sizes are large for the price — most dishes are under $ 10. I’m 5’10″ 205 lbs and I NEVER go home hungry. Make sure you check out the specials board before ordering, they have unique offerings all the time. This morning they had biscuit sliders with bacon, egg, and cheese with buffalo home fries. Last week they had a Texas Burger with chili, Fritos, and it came with a surprise side order of fried jalepeños! The breakfast sandwiches are really tasty too, and they’re great about letting you add on items. My girlfriend is an avocadoholic and the last time we were here she had no problem putting it on her sandwich. If you’re in the area with friends grab a table outside, or if you’re alone grab a seat at the counter. The waitresses and cooks are really nice and you’ll be happy you stopped by.

Came here for the first time with my girlfriend for brunch today and we will definitely come back! This quaint little diner offers great food and friendly service. I was impressed at how wholesome and loaded my omelette was. It wasn’t flimsy that’s for sure, and their home fries were rocking some good seasoning unlike the usual boring and plain home fries you get elsewhere. Their onion rings? Some of the best I’ve had in a long time. Next time, I’m trying something off the specials board because they all sounded delicious and I suck at decision making, especially with food. If you’re ever in Wayland Square, stop in here! You won’t be disappointed.

We live nearby but hadn’t been there in years. This morning we went, and we remembered why we stopped going. Small and very crowded, and the staff seemed to be stepping all over themselves; we ended up with two waitresses. Our food(one ham and eggs, one biscuits and gravy) took over half an hour to come out, and they didn’t bring the toast until we were almost done. We also had the pleasure of watching a group of three people shove in and get seated before us; we also saw people come in and get served almost immediately, while we waited for our food. To be fair, the food was good, and one of our waitresses was very apologetic for the delay. But we won’t be back anytime soon. To sum up: if you think a crowded diner with a disorganized waitstaff is «charming,» come on down. Otherwise, skip it.

I stopped in to have breakfast food for lunch, which is great here because they serve their breakfast menu all day. They had a lot of options, including vegetarian ones. I can’t speak to the lunch menu, but the breakfast food was delicious. I had the Mexican Scrambler — no complaints. The décor is cute and quaint, and service friendly. It seemed like they have many regular customers. The only downside was that to get to the bathroom you have to walk through the kitchen and downstairs into the storage area, which was a little awkward. But as long as you use the restroom before you go, everything should be good.

This place came in handy the other morning. It was a Saturday around 11:30am and everywhere we tried to go was packed. So we found this diner on Unilocal. We walked in and there was a booth open luckily. It fit three perfectly. A server came out with three waters. We ordered our drinks(coffee, apple juice, and a chocolate milk) and waited for our server to come back over. When she came back with our drinks she took our order(Eggs Benedict, a waffle, and a ham & cheese omelet.) Our food came out within 10 minutes. We were shocked but so glad because we were starving. The Eggs Benedict was cooked perfectly. The waffle was amazing and sprinkled with powdered sugar. The omelet was huge filled with ham and cheese. The menu is pretty decent with options for breakfast and lunch. I can’t wait to come back again.

I like it here. Especially in spring, summer and early fall. Outdoor seating is nice. Good for people watching. The service is either amazing or sad. But sad in at least an interesting way. There are a couple older ladies that are gruff. Call me a masochist but sometimes that’s what I want. Some of the younger servers are flaky. Others are amazing. The food is dependable. The boys in the kitchen take pride in their work. They are consistent. The coffee is diner coffee. But that’s what I want. On St. Patty’s day they do corned beef boiled dinner that is perfect. I get it with a side of rough cut corned beef hash with eggs and toast. And YES. That is my side. Lunch with a side of breakfast. Don’t judge me!!! I’ll give u 5 stars if u put that corned beef on the permanent menu. And I’ll eat there thrice a week. But till then… I can only give u three stars. I still love u tho. And I’m not sure what it is but u will smell like that place for the next 6 hours. Which has it’s pros and cons. I had an omelet. Avocado, black olives, sausage. White toast. Potatoes. All good. But I want more.

I consider myself pretty good at making breakfast, so it’s not often that I go out to brunch. But this is my new favorite spot to get breakfast close to home– everything is so homemade-tasting! My boyfriend and I came here in the middle of a weekday and it was fairly crowded, so I think this place has many local devotees. We chose a booth along the side and sat down to look over the menu. We ended up splitting a short stack of chocolate chip pancakes, a «Western» omelet(with ham, peppers, onion, and cheese) that came with the home fries and an English muffin, and(yes, we love ice cream, even before 2 in the afternoon) a chocolate«cabinet.» Everything was unbelievably tasty– simple, no-frills food that really hit the spot. I don’t know what spice they use on their home fries, but they were delicious. The omelet was also cooked perfectly– not overly done, not runny, just right. It was the ultimate breakfast, with some savory and some sweet! Our total came to $ 23, which I thought was really reasonable for 2 big-portioned breakfast entrées, bottomless coffee, and a malt. Service was great. I think I heard our waitress mention that she’s relatively new, but she was very prompt and really took care of us, stopping by often to fill up our coffee and ask if everything was alright. The décor is also charming. I don’t know if they’ve renovated lately, but the walls are now painted a nice pale blue. The place is also super clean. They have some of the old machines behind the counter, including this great old-fashioned malt/shake-mixing machine. It’s fun to watch people in the café, as well as people walking outside. When it’s warm out, they also have their own couple of tables outside so you can sit right on the sidewalk on Wayland Ave. if you’d like.
