I think hot dogs are similar to spaghetti sauce, in that there are lots of variations out there, but we each tend to prefer a certain type. While I really enjoy the New Way dogs, my favorites were Jimmy dogs down on Warren(now closed), and Hagie’s in Warrensburg(now the Luck E Star). Both had thicker, sweet sauces which appealed to my sweet tooth. Still, the New Way dog is great in its own right, and definitely worth a try! While the dogs hold center stage, I would also recommend their other items and sides, especially their pineapple cake, which is simply awesome! They also have Stewarts root beer, which is a perfect beverage to accompany the hot dogs.

Closed until October 30. That’s not an inconvenience or anything. I mean it’s not like I leave on October 27 or anything. Came all the way from California. Thank you for denying the privilege of cerebral and physical bliss after a bite into a hot dog with the works.

Family of 3 had a quick dinner for under $ 20! Food was exactly what we expected. I loved the battered onion rings, they were made exactly how I love them! Felt like a small town favorite. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, very clean restaurant! *we stopped in because we found the place recommended on Unilocal

My sister had been telling me about the great hot dogs here for a couple of years, so it seemed like a logical place to stop and put something in our stomach before we headed off to a nearby taproom that didn’t serve food. The building is long and narrow, and set back from the road more than most of its neighbors. Inside, everywhere is well lit and very clean looking. A low eating counter runs along on your left and booths for two or four line the wall on your right. The music playing is nostalgic and comes from a jukebox near the rear or from the individual jukebox controls mounted in each of the booths. We’re here for the hot dogs, but I recently joined my sister for a fish fry in Clifton Park at one of her other favorite locations. So while my wife orders a Hot Dog($ 1.60) with the works, and that means with mustard, diced onions, and the restaurant’s special sauce, I decide to see if their Fish Sandwich($ 5.95) can measure up to the popular fish fries around the Capital District. My wife also decides to try an order of Dolmades($ 4.95) and I want to see how their Onion Rings are($ 2.55 sm; $ 3.55 lg). The hot dog is a full sized dog, not the little ones that became famous in Troy, N.Y. My wife gives it a thumbs up, and my taste of it recognizes that it tastes different from any of the Troy, Colonie, or Watervliet purveyors of the little puppies. It didn’t seem as strong in the chili powder flavor, or as salty. The fish sandwich is a 4 oz. filet of haddock that is breaded and deep fried, served on a hard roll, that was actually quite soft, with some lettuce and a choice of tarter or cocktail sauce. The triangular portion of fish did not measure up to my expectations after growing up with the fish fries of the Capital region. Both my wife and I found the haddock to have more of a strong fish flavor than the mild flavor that we were accustomed to. The thinness of the fish portion in proportion to the roll also did not give the mouth-feel satisfaction that is typical with fish fries. I’m guessing that the fish is pre-portioned by a supplier and probably pre-breaded. I thought the onion rings also came from a food distributer, but my wife things they are made in-house. The rings are made from whole onions, however, not those preformed onion textured rings that some places sell. The Dolmades were nicely stuffed grape leaves. Tasty, with a dipping sauce on the side and served cold. I can see us returning to meet my sister sometime and ordering the hot dogs and dolmades again. BTW, their menu says they have two other locations, one in Warrensburg, and another in downtown Glens Falls.

I’ve been on the planet only about 2⁄3 as long as the family business has existed. I’m not exactly sure how long the Upper Glen St. restaurant has been around, but I’m sure I drove by it way too many times. It took an Entertainment Book coupon to stop in(the coupon is good on all sandwiches but not the hot dogs), and it did its job; I’ll be back. I like the nostalgic style of the stools and booths, especially with the quarter-play juke boxes at them(thankfully the bathrooms are not nostalgic but up-to-date, nice, and clean). Evidently there are a lot of regulars who don’t need the menus. Coffee, when ordered, comes out fast and fresh pots are made frequently. Since we had the coupon, we went for sandwiches. They have 2 styles of «Philly» steak sandwiches, beef and chicken. Both are quite good, with not-overwhelming portions of onions and peppers(meaning a good portion of meat). I opted for the 6oz. Greek Sirloin Burger. This came cooked to order. Besides lettuce and tomato, the burger side was topped with an «Acropolis portion» of feta cheese, and the top of the bun side was hidden by a layer of sliced pepperoncini. My side of cole slaw was a full plate-full, finely chopped and creamy, a good amount for the price. As I ate this delicious burger, I realized that here I was paying less for a larger, freshly-made burger than I was paying for a specialty or build-your-own burger at trendy new Smashburger in Latham, where, on a busy day, you have to wait just as long for your burger. It really makes you wonder about the overhead at the trendy burger places. I passed on dessert, which included a selection of about half-a-dozen pies, but I had really wanted to try one of the raspberry-filled sugar cookies.

I’ve been going to Dirty John’s(New Way Lunch) all my life. I lived across the street from the original South St. location and it might be the most Glens Falls thing about Glens falls. Sometimes it’s my first stop getting into town. I once took a food critic for the Washington Post there. He loved it. The fries are great and the dogs live up to the regional standard.

Today is the first time in about 10 years I had New Way dogs. I’ve been out if the area almost continuously for 20 years in the military, and this place is one of the things I think about from growing up. Great dogs as always today, and I’ll be back at least a few more times before returning to SoCal!

We walked into this place(which I had found off of Unilocal) and were asked if we had ever been there before. Nope. «Our hotdogs have been famous for over 100 years,» we were told and at the sight of the price tag($ 1.40 per hotdog) it was worth trying. Dogs come with some special meat sauce, onions and relish… and were pretty tasty! Someone else in our party got the chickenburger which was pretty solid. Fries are the crunchy, thick exterior kind and not bad at all. The two veggie friends of mine ordered salads, which were most expensive in the 9 dollar range(and not worth it). The best part was the jukebox, where you can pay 25 cents to hear Monster Mash. Cheap, quick & dirty with some character. Good for road-trips if you want to avoid the mega food chains that litter the area.

These are the same dirty johns I remember from my high school days at Saint Mary’s in Glens Falls but at the Queesbury location on Upper Glen Street. Had 3 today with the works. Good times.

I have eaten hot dogs all over this half of the country. These are second to none. They have the authentic Greek meat sauce that made the«Coney» famous at Coney Island, NY back in the early Boardwalk days. Peter and Susan Gazetos are the proud, upbeat owners of this historic business passed on by Peter’s aunt and uncle, who began the biz in the 40’s. Now, joined by their kids, they are opening a third spot on Main St. in Warrensburg, NY, in May, 2011. I am sure that the quality control will be present there also. I think they should name the new location«Dirty John’s», in memory of Peter’s, founder uncle, who created their famous«dirt sauce». I have been a steady customer of New Way since the mid 50’s, so I think that is enough qualification to recommend this North Country institution.

Good dogs and rings. Best to sit inside but drive through is pretty fast. Could use a few more menu items(wings maybe?).

Awesome hotdogs, the homemade meatsauce is outstanding and the fries are fresh and piping hot every time. There are booths to seat two or four, a counter with swivel seats and a very friendly staff. Cheap, fast, quality, friendly. At less than $ 1.50/hotdog you can have two! The pies are great, although many are not made in house. They have jukeboxes at each table. For a quarter you can have your selection pumped through the restaurant. You can see where they prepare the food. It is CLEAN. No saurkraut.

Great small, cheap food, fast. The hotdogs are amazing, great place to go with a few friends or family. A large fries to share and hotdogs for everyone. Everyone needs to at least try a hotdog loaded at least once.

I was extremely skeptical when this New Way Lunch opened and was worried it would not be able to deliver the world’s best«Dirty John’s» hot dog I have grown up with on South Street. Thankfully, my worries were for nothing because DAMN these hot dogs are still amazing! This location on Glen St. across from Staples is much easier for me to get to so I can get dogs whenever I want. If you have never been here before… its all about the dogs… and the secret sauce. For me, I sit at the bar and get my usual; 3 dogs(no onions — extra sauce), a soda, and a slice of berry pie. OMG the pie is amazing here. This is the best hot dog in the north country and the word is they also ship. Yes, yes, and yes! The best part is your meal is extremely affordable and massively delicious.
