Great produce, especially the corn(locals love buying their corn, sweet and juicy) The kids enjoy going to see the beehive. They have reasonable prices and a good variety of produce and local food items.

If you want the freshest local vegetables and fruits — you have to go to Osage. They sell whatever is fresh and available — strawberries in April/May, corn in June/July, peaches in July/August, and apples in September/October — and that it just the tip of the iceberg. I discovered the shelled beans this year — zipper peas, lady peas, crowder peas — all shelled, cleaned, and packaged in pint containers — perfect for freezing. They also have fresh honey, wonderful jams, and local breads — and of course Tomlin’s BBQ right next door — so they have the Tomlin’s sauces and pickles. Put this place on your list if you are in the area, and if you aren’t, try to get there.

Osage, how I’m glad to find your fresh produce. These guys keep bulk and non-bulk seasonal produce from the mountains at your fingertips. Everything from tomatoes to peaches to various types of beans and peppers. If they happen to not have it then it’s probably not ripe yet, but they’ll keep you posted if you ask. :) They also have lots of baked breads and honey to go with. You could easily pass this place if you’re going too quick. It’s right off the road and easily spotted from the highway. Also, the live honey bee display is mesmerizing. It’s a neat feature to a produce stop. Come early summer for stone free peaches~ Mid-July for bulk corn and tomatoes. I’ll hazard a guess for autumn apples. All delish~

LET’S MAKETHISSHORTANDSWEET… There is no better produce stand within 100 miles. Maybe further. I always chuckle at the fact that their long big parking area is full. morning, late late afternoon, any day of week, etc. These are no nonsense, plain good people, with reasonable prices. Heirloom tomatoes I never heard of but try one called«Boxcar Willie». Peaches from South Carolina since long ago the Peach State lost its edge because of temperature changes to SC and every good farmer know this. Field peas, lady slipper peas, crowder, etc. Make slaw with their cabbage. you will slap your mama. There is a tomato relish in jars that our son a chef, puts across grilled fish and it is so good for an «uptown» look and taste. Maybe you will see Ricky in his overalls… a nice person and a REAL farmer. Well guess this was not so short and sweet… Oh! if you can get there when they have silver queen corn. OMG…you will die for this stuff. In iron skillet put in ½ stick of butter, chip up a small onion, and half a green pepper, and cut corn off 8 ears of silver queen, sauté, till done… Fried Corn… Volia !(look this word up). If you like add 1⁄3 cup of heavy cream warm do not boil.

Great fruit stand with good prices. A lot is grown on their farm or from nearby. In addition to fruit and veggies they have home made breads.

This fabulous roadside produce market has some of the most amazing vegetables and fruits I’ve ever seen! They have cabbages bigger than your head, gigantic potatoes, huge poblano and banana peppers, great big apples, and just about anything else you can imagine. They sell corn by the bushel, if you’d like that much(hint: buy a bushel so you can have some now and put some up for the winter). They have jars of fresh honey and a cool beehive display so you can watch the bees at work. I also saw several different varieties of freshly baked bread. I was disappointed to see that all of the peaches were from South Carolina but they were still fresh and fragrant, if not as tasty as Georgia’s peaches. If I lived near this place, I would never buy produce in the grocery store. If you’re in the area during a road trip to the mountains, it’s definitely worth your time to stop in and see what’s in season.

Great roadside market. picked up a basket of truly tree-ripened peaches, heirloom tomatoes we had never heard of, and some cool purple lima-like beans we have never heard of.

Ann and I went to visit a cousin of hers in Dillard, and stopped by Osage for Fall vegetables. Got 24 ears of Silver Queen corn, huge bunches of collards, a quart of shelled Lady Peas, a quart of shelled Purple Hull Peas, 2 lbs of gorgeous Pole Beans, 3 lbs of October Beans, and 2 lbs of very pretty Okra. We’ve been coming here for years, and always pleased with the quality of their veggies and fruits. Right now, they are harvesting really spectacular cabbage. They grow all their own veggies locally and sell them as soon as they pick them. They close for the winter on November 1, so hurry! As for us, we’ll be cooking, canning, freezing, and putting together a farmstead veggie meal for Sunday evening accompanied by my crispy-crust cornbread.

They have the best vegetables in the area. The yellow squash is incredible in your stews. Try the hoop cheese and get the sourdough bread; also, the apple– blueberry bread for dessert or breakfast.
