Disappointed: Stopped going to the Lodge after sitting inside and roach crawled down the wall. Recently a meeting at work was catered by them. So I said lets give them another try yesterday. While waiting for our food I flicked a small bug out my son’s hair(color of a roach). Waited, waited, waited and finally got our food. Get home… the BBQ is full of grease, the potato salad has no flavor at all, the slaw was extra spicy(actualky choked) and what should of been the highlight of the meal(banana pudding) was disgusting. It had hard bananas and evidently no sugar. To top it all off, I usually eat the ice from drinks. Well there were black specks on the ice. Officially my last visit, EVER!

Worst bbq ever!!! You could lubricate a engine with the amount of grease in it. If anything get the chicken sandwich.

I tried the Barbecue Lodge for the first time today. I was in the neighborhood and it was lunchtime, so I hit the drive thru. I got a small BBQ plate with candied yams and cole slaw. I usually skip breakfast and by lunch I am always starving. The small plate was enormous and could easily feed two people. They also give you a giant bag of piping hot hush puppies. I ate until I was stuffed and had plenty left for dinner. The barbecue is tasty but just a little bit greasy. The cole slaw is not your«traditional» mayonnaise-based slaw. Theirs is more a mustard/vinegar-based slaw, which is good, but not as good as the traditional slaw in my opinion. The yams were very, very good. Nice and sweet but not smashed or soggy. The sweet tea was also good. All in all I would say the Barbecue Lodge is worth the trip to Mini City. Yes, it is pricey but they do give you a lot of food. I also heard the buffet is pretty good, too. I say give it a try!

Has this place changed hands? I have gotten the Thursday /Sunday special for over ten years now and today the combo is barely edible. Green beans and yam are hard and under seasoned and the chicken and pastry is bland and flavorless. It’s always good… I have even gotten it by the pint for catered events. What’s going on?

Yuck. Ordered take out for lunch(barbecue, slaw, squash, brunswick stew) and the only thing that was edible were the hush puppies. Bland and tasteless.

Excited about the tasty food but they are slow and the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. :-(

As long I have lived in the Raleigh area I never knew the set up of BBQ lodge. The times I’ve eaten here someone has always brought me food, so I’ve never physically been to the restaurant. This time my husband and I decided to stop in for lunch. We entered the restaurant and was waiting at the counter for someone to take our orders. Only for the lady to tell us that the part we were in was actually a sit down buffet, and to go around the corner to either the drive thru or pick up location. We opted to go to walk up counter and order our food. They have a nice selection of foods(heavy greasy foods) but I already had in mind what I wanted, which was the Turkey BBQ sandwich and fries. I love that they have other options of BBQ besides pork for people to enjoy. Good portions, hot food, and fast service. As always I’m never disappointed.

I love this place. They definitely have the best barbecue around and the banana pudding is amazing. Would definitely suggest to anyone who likes southern style cooking!

The barbeque is delicious, but my FAVORITE things are their turnip greens(only available on Fridays) and corn sticks! A few times, when I have gone through the drive-thru, the«cashier» will say«one pint of turnip greens and corn sticks» before I can say anything. Ha-Ha!

This is about as old-school as it gets. We weren’t there for dinner, we just needed a greasy breakfast to prepare ourselves to tailgate for an NC State football game after a night of heavy drinking(by me) the night before. The Lodge got it done and then some. Four egg omelette? That is just what I’m looking for. I order it and start to tell her what I want in it and she says«you want everything in there, honey?» Yes. Yes I do. I got a side of bacon and a biscuit to round things off. The order of bacon reminded me of the episode of Parks And Rec where Ron asks the waiter for all the eggs and bacon they have. At most places a side of bacon is 3 slices. At the Lodge it’s 3 pounds. I got a take out box for half of it and the biscuit and had it breakfast on my ride back north the next day. The breakfast potatoes were meh. Too soggy. Gotta crisp them up a bit. Other than that it was just what the doctor ordered.

What makes thee Lodge popular is the amount of food at the right price points. The quality of the food semed to be more of what you would expect at a catered back yard event. Maybe the truck in the parking lot should have been a clue, The witress was more intered in looking at the TV then taking our order. Hard wooden seats in booth were a nightmare.

I would love to try eat here but this is the second time I have waited for 5+ minutes at the register to be seated whole multiple employees point blank ignored me .Not during rush hour, all quite content to stand in the area behind the register and chat instead if assisting customers

So sad to see this Icon has fallen so far. Grew up with many a funny story being told over a Family Style meal with some of the best“es” freshest fried chicken I’ve ever had. My first visit back in years and sorry to say they’ve added a buffet and prices the menu as such it’s your only choice. The now runny Potato Salad used to be a family favorite is now almost a soup and unrecognizable. Only giving 2 stars for the fact this Mom And Pops is still having at it up against all of the national chains. Let’s do better boss.

Breakfast is not the strong point of the Barbecue Lodge. We were there about 9 am on a Saturday morning. There was only one other table of customers in the restaurant. We seated ourselves and waiting several minutes before the lone server made her way to the table. The breakfast special is two eggs and two pancakes for $ 1.99 and my guest ordered that. I ordered the omelette with cheese ham and bacon with hast browns and grits. The food was fine and the price reasonable. If the service had been better I would give at least one more star.

A return visit a year and half + later, I’ve decided this place will just not do it for me. Sunday, after church — went with my wife, my daughter and a friend of my daughter — two adults, two children, ordered the buffet and ended up getting charged for 4 adults. The«Price Board» did not indicate an age cutoff for children, so I don’t know what was assumed about their age, or if I was assuming too much. This place is definetly for those who like«Southern Style» cooking, which I’m okay with sometimes, but apparently not today. For me, the lemonade was too syrupy sickening sweet. The salad, while not brown, was too wet — had ice cubes in it, and some of the lettuce was translucent as a result. The blue cheese dressing was cut so much it didn’t taste like blue cheese, it tasted more like water. The pork bbq was okay, better with hot sauce on it, but nothing to write home about. The popcorn shrimp tasted like stainless steel, and the mac n cheese tasted like watery stainless steel — like overcooked water logged pasta does. The kids liked the food okay, my bride & I on the other hand — not so much. Really did not feel the food was anywhere near worth the price. We’ve decided if we ever are in the area and think we are looking for a place to stop… to remind ourselves that we do not want to stop here — stop me if I suggest it. Just for comparison sake, I don’t care much for Golden Corral, and I(and my family) think Golden Corral is a better option than Barbeque Lodge.

I don’t know the standards of these other peoples’ good review is, but I’ve eaten bbq all over the south. And I can tell you I’ve only eaten at one place worse than here. The food was downright tasteless. I wasn’t even brave enough to try the desserts that the other reviews raved about. The sauce was nearly all vinegar. The décor looked like it’d been there for 30 years. The one thing that the reviews got right was the wait staff. They were very friendly and attentive. Just stay away from this place. And before you say that«well this is Carolina BBQ», know that NO bbq should taste like cardboard.

I have never laughed so hard at a restaurant in my entire life. My sister took my BF and me here for a true taste of Southern food. That it was. I could not control my laughter each time a new dish was served and we slopped it on our cafeteria plates. Nothing looked eatable. My BF gobbled the food down like everyone else in the restaurant. You can’t hold back here. It’s just not a part of their meme. ~ When the banana pie came, he practically finished it off himself. On the way home, he said in his German accent, «If I say pull over, do it quick because I feel like I have to womit!» I’ll spare you the details but this place rightfully earned the name«Barfeque Lodge.» But at least we can say we ate at the most popular Q restaurant in Raleigh!

Pulled Pork BBQ gets Very Close to Five Stars! Very Good Flavor with no sauce and even better with! Not the Best I’ve ever Eaten though Very Good for our area! Slaw was Bright Yellow and had a Vinegar Mustard flavor… I’m a Fan of this Slaw because the Flavor was good and it did NOT have Mayonnaise! The BBQ Sauce was OK, a simple Vinegar Based with a few spices. Yesterday was my first experience with this outfit! Friends of ours got Married and had Barbecue Lodge Cater, so if the Catered meal was this good I imagine eating in or taking out it would be at least this good!

Five stars for service, the lady who served us was probably the sweetest waitress i’ve ever met but the food was so bland and boring that I can’t recommend this place to anyone. It definitely needs some sort of makeover with the food and décor, as everything is just so blah. Had the buffet(which is pretty cheap) but could only find a handful of things to try since everything just looked brown and a bit depressing. I decided to go with the fish but unfortunately it tasted like it looked, like nothing at all. The beans and potatoes were very much the same, but the dessert was actually pretty good. I tried the sweet potatoes(not dessert but still…) and they were good, and the banana pudding was pretty impressive, but I can’t make a meal out of sweets. Won’t be back unfortunately. There are so many better comfort food spots.

Since my last review the Barbecue Lodge has added a buffet. Every once in a while I have a stressful day in the office and I just need to PIGOUT at lunch. For 8 bucks including tea(and you get a whole pitcher of unsweetened) you get unlimited chicken and pork BarBQue, Fried Chicken, Fish and Shrimp and a half dozen sides including salad and the most awesome banana puddin’. Like most buffets you need to watch when the trays are refilled to prevent Heat Lamp-a-tosis, but overall the price, quantity and quality can’t be beat!
