Decent old-school grilled burgers. The Steak burger and Steak Jr are a good value. A better burger than you’d get at a fast food chain for just little more money.

I’m from out of town, and somebody recommended that I go here and try their burgers. I’m glad I did. Normally when one asks for a chili cheeseburger, there is too much chili. These guys don’t do anything like that. What they do is craft A darn near perfect burger. And the only reason why I say that, is because my burgers are the best in the world. But if you want to go to restaurant have a burger this is the place to go

Honesty deserves mention because it speaks volumes about a business. I left my checkbook here by accident. Sadly I did not have my phone number in the check book. But management was able to track me down using my address. It took a lot of effort on their part, and they could have just as early written themselves a free checks. I am VERY thankful!

Has to be one of the best dive burger places ever. I do mean ever. The ordering system is just to good with you picking what you want on the tickets and sliding then down a little ramp. The steak burgers and the regular patty burgers just have a taste that is amazing. The fries I swear are like crack themselves. Don’t dare go to the Raleigh area with out stopping at one of these. You will be sorry.

This is for my vegetarians out there, holla! On the matter of the grilled cheese sandwich: it belongs in the book of of culinary disappointments and misdeeds. — One hamburger bun, lightly warmed by placing it on the griddle UPSIDEDOWN — No butter — Barely melted slice of American cheese placed in between. You heard me: I got an INSIDEOUT hamburger bun with a slice of American cheese slapped inside. Fin. At approximately $ 2.30, I would have preferred to eat 4 packets of Handi-Snacks. Clearly, I was out of my element in coming here. PS — weird ordering system involving paper, pencil, and a slot is great for those days you don’t feel like using your voice.

My first time coming to this burger joint, visiting North Carolina from New Jersey. Food is excellent burgers are great the only complaint is that being a new guy who is never been here before I have no idea what I’m doing, the ordering system is difficult. You have to fill out your own ticket and as I find out later, drop it in a slot. since I didn’t know this I went to the register asking for directions on how to order. Would give them five stars if the ordering system was much easier. Wanted a cheeseburger with lettuce onions pickles and ketchup, but on the ticket there is no lettuce?

Great char grilled burger made from fresh ground beef and fresh vegetables on the burgers! Ryan runs a great restaurant and when I want a great burger, i will always stop in and grab one from them! The only complaint I would have is strictly a preference and that is I wish they would switch to Coca-Cola as I hate Pepsi and any of their products!

All hype. Sure it’s better than McDonald’s but that’s a pretty low bar. Patties are pulled out of the freezer and thrown on a grill just like a cookout at your tightwad brother in laws place.

Char-Grill is a Raleigh landmark and my favorite burger in Raleigh. I am from a small NC town and this is as close as I can get to a true southern burger with slaw, chili, onion, mustard, ketchup, cheese. It is so good! You must try if you haven’t. And, don’t forget a large sweet tea with crushed ice! Edwards Mill and Hillsborough Street are my favorite locations.

I feel like a terrible North Carolinian for going this long as a Unilocaler without reviewing any Char-Grills. So, let’s get down and dirty with it: * Very tasty burgers. Give me the hugest one on the menu, and add bacon to it please. I’d get very bored living until I was 80 anyway. Load it up. * Middling fries. There, I said it. The fries are just okay. I’m sorry. * Delicious shakes. There are better burgers in the area. Please, no one come at me with torches and pitchforks, but Five Guys has Char-Grill beat hands down. Cook-Out even gives it a run for its money, especially in the value department. Even still, Char-Grill really hits the spot once in a while.

This place is a bit disorganized, but the burgers are very good. You can smell the deliciousness as you walk up to place your order. I enjoyed my hamburger.

I’m not sure if my expectations were just unnecessarily highly built up, but this was a disappointment. To me, it didn’t live up to all the hype. I was having an unusually intense red meat craving and was planning on a visit to another popular burger joint to enjoy a big, juicy burger and replenish my iron(this was obviously all in the name of nutrition). Knowing I was new to the area, a co-worker re-directed me to Char-Grill, and since this location was on my way home I decided to give it a try. Frankly, I could have made a better burger in a pan on my stove(and it would have been cheaper). I’m not saying it was the worst burger I’ve ever had, but really, if they’re going to post a MASSIVE poster of some magazine they made a «top 800» list on 10 years ago, I’d think they’d take a little more pride in the quality of their meat/produce/cheese/anything. I will say, the gentleman who gave me my food was notably pleasant(that’s me ending on a positive note).

Ordering is not very straightforward and nobody working there seemed that helpful in explaining it to a new customer. Had to learn from another customer. Been there a couple times now, and it’s definitely less frustrating once you know how things work. The food is good, but not exceptional. Better than most fast food, but not as good as my go-to, Cook Out.

You really need to experience this place. Burgers are awesome. This place is a glass box with the cooks on the inside and customers outside. You fill out your own order slip, then feed it into the slot in the glass. What usually happens next is that you’ll immediately forget your ticket number(the slips don’t have tear tags), and spend the rest of your wait time trying to figure out who was in front of you in line, and hope that they remembered their number…(Doesn’t help that you’re usually pretty hungover.) The confusion that ensues, and the fact that I usually screw up EVERYSINGLETIME I’m there adds to the«ambiance» of the place. Here’s a trick I heard from my buddies: they just cross off the ticket number and write their name on the top of the slip. I’ll have to remember that for next time.

Flame Grilled burgers with no fuss. When you get there, you pick up a list, fill it out and put it through. Apparently I put the order in wrong. There’s a tiny little slot where you slide your paper in. I, like the newb that I was, brought it to the checkout counter but they didn’t really seem to care. The food came out fast and hot. I got ½ a burger and it was still big. The fries were good and the apple pie, similar to those old deep fried McD ones. YUM! Pretty good for an old school burger joint. Reminds me of 24 hour burgers back in the east bay.

Just landed in Raleigh for the first time. It is freezing out here ~ something like 35 degrees and snow is forecasted tomorrow. On my way to my hotel, I noticed a hamburger joint that look like one of those mom and pop’s diner in Philly. You got me sold. As I drove into the parking lot, I noticed that their are no seats inside. It is actually an enclosed kitchen(think Checker’s hamburger chains). Outside there are metal benches. Boy, of course, because of the cold and windchill, no one was sitting outside. However, there was a line of people waiting for their order. When you make an order, there is a pad of paper outside the window, you fill it out, slide it through a «peep» hole, and then wait outside until your name is called. I ordered the ½ pound burger, with bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, etc… and, I had the side of french fries and an apple turnover. Being that I haven’t eaten for like 8 hours, I was starving. I doved into and devoured my apple turnover first… hey man, I have a sweet tooth. It tastes like the McDonald’s apple pie — note: the fried yummy type and not the yucky baked apple pie(by the way, McD’s need to banished all BAKED apple pies — totally awful tasting). Now, their fries«were» crisp and hot — very good… Yes, they were munched on and done with after like 2 minutes. Wished it was seasoned though… As for the burger, it tastes pretty good. I think the«grill» brought out great flavor. Nothing like chargrilled and smokey meat. Yum. I would recommend that they do the following: 1. Convert the metal benches to wood(can’t imagine sitting outside). 2. Put some type of tent around the bench perimeter to warm and insulate the customers from the wind 3. Put a heating«lamp» outside. Hello, again, it was god freezing… my ears are still in a state of frozen shock. Outside the cold wait outside, I would highly recommend this place. My meal cost less than $ 10 for a drink, burger, fries, and apple turnover. Enjoy!

If death-by-cholesterol is the order of the day(and let’s face it — what drive-in burger place isn’t death-by-cholesterol? Freud was right about the death wish …), then Char-Grill will not disappoint. Ordering by filling out a little slip of paper seems a bit odd at first, but it works pretty darned well(assuming you can find a pencil and you remember your order number). There’s always a group of lunch-time locals hanging around this place, and it’s fun to go on the motorcycle and eat in the parking lot in the nice weather.

I decided to have some late night fast food after my softball game, and Char-Grill hit the spot. This time I decided to try a burger and a hot dog. I got both the burger and the hot dog with most of the toppings(chili, onions, mustard, slaw, and ketchup/lettuce/tomato – on the burger only). Good stuff. The only way it could have been would be to add some heat to it. The fries are very salty. Your arteries will be instantly clogged. My order seemed to be a little faster than last time, so maybe the hamburger steak sandwiches take a little longer to cook? Check out Char-Grill if you’re craving some fast food. You’ll spend a little more than the national chains, but it’s worth it!
