I love Chubby’s. My family eats here all the time, but I never experienced the glory until I moved back to Raleigh. Everything is so fresh, and there’s so many flavor combinations that my palate explodes with happiness. I love that they have so many salsas to choose from, and I love everything I’ve had. Even the rice and beans are delicious.

The Baja shrimp here are really good. Gotten them twice in the soft corn shells and they have been good both times. I did notice I got more beans and rice in the combo when I ate in than when I got it to go. Not so wild about their chips they are a bit stale tasting to me, I like a flakier chip. They do have a lot of variety on the sauce bar. Good prices.

After having 20 bucks stolen from me for this awful food, this is definitely a one and done. Ordered a carne asada taco salad, queso&chips and guac to go. The taco salad was not good. The meat was over-seasoned, chewy and tough. I specifically asked if it had refried beans on it, but somehow only a quarter of the tasteless flour shell had beans. It was like a small spoonful. I also prefer shredded lettuce in my taco salad which they don’t use but that’s really more of a preference. Should have just ordered the meat by itself since the flavor pretty much overwhelmed everything else. The guacamole was so bland, I don’t think you can even call it bad; just so tasteless. I could have easily mashed up a 99 cent avocado at the house and had the same thing they pass off as guac. The queso was, I’m pretty sure, nothing but white american cheese melted. I saw no jalapeños, green chilis, tasted no spices. But it was ok. Chips were about the same as anywhere else. There was just an overwhelming saltiness to everything but the guac. Again, my one and only visit. I certainly don’t understand all the rave reviews.

I think I saw this place on the news or something and since I have yet to find a Mexican place I think actually tastes like Mexican I thought I’d give it a try. Chicken taco was good but meat should be shredded so it stays in your taco shell. Otherwise the taste was pretty good! Now the carne asada taco was a different story. …ew it tasted like pot roast! No real flavor not carne asada any way. Plus it was almost $ 10 for two tacos and a soda… too high! And they say California is expensive!

This was my first time trying Chubby’s Tacos. The food is pretty good, burrito is worth the price. Is it to much to ask for them to make sure the order is right? I paid for queso and sour cream and didn’t get either. I left work to pick up the order and was not able to go back for my queso. I called to see if I could get a refund for the queso and all they could do was put me on a list for the next time I come in and comp the queso next time… Now I’m gonna have to go back when I really don’t know if I ever will. Even though it was only $ 1.50, it’s still upsetting when a restaurant can’t get something as simple as that right. On top of that the employee Brittney was nice but she was too focused on having a conversation with another customer when she was in the middle of helping me. I have worked in the customer service industry for about 10 years now, I know what it takes and I expected more.

My son loves this place. Great selection and good prices. The queso was great as was the pico. Try the tinga chicken taco and the sweet potato and black bean taco – yum!

I got off to a very bad start with this place, but it has since become one of my favorites. It looked like a District Taco wanna –be(for those of you from DC) and so I thought I’d give it a try. On my first visit I ordered a couple of veggie tacos and they were awful — tasteless and bitter. One was the portabella mushroom and the other was the mixed vegetable but had a lot of broccoli. These are things that do not belong in taco shells. The girl behind the counter was about 12 and was extremely unhelpful.(«What do you have for vegetarians?» «Look up there»(points to large and confusing menu). «What toppings can I put on them?» «People usually just get what we put on.» «Can’t I get what I want?» «Yes.» «What toppings can I put on them?» «Whatever you want.» And so on. Best one: «What type of cheese do you put on them?» «We use the same type of cheese for everything.» «What type of cheese do you put on them?» «I don’t know what it is called.») Despite that awful first visit, I have returned at the urging of a friend and the next time I tried the rice and bean taco. Absolutely wonderful, either the hard shell or soft shell are loaded with rice, beans and whatever else you like(I choose lettuce, tomato, and the unknown cheese which turned out to be asiago; I do not know where the sides are listed but I am sure they are on the menu somewhere). If you order the soft shell, you can even eat it like a salad, it is that big.(I will say, however, that the amount of stuff they put in varies considerably depending on who is making them.) You get a nice little basket of chips to go along with your tacos which are decent. The real downer is the salsa bar. There are about 8 kinds of salsa that allegedly range from mild to spicy but in fact range from mild to mild. The«spicy» salsa is just gross, a red sauce that has a bitter taste that I can only say tastes like windex smells. It tastes like someone put an entire bottle of windex in there — very bitter. I can’t eat it. And not at all spicy. The other choices are better tasting but very mild. You are best off just choosing the salsa de la casa(very good) and putting in jalopenos or bringing your own hot sauce. The lines are also long and SLOOOOOW. I waited almost 10 minutes with just 3 people ahead of me. Don’t come here if you are in a rush. Nice selection of soft drinks and beer. They bring your food to your table piping hot. Notwithstanding the disappointing salsa bar and clueless help, this has now become my favorite quick Mexican place in the area.

As a Chicagoan from out of town hit this up with a friend. Points for the salsa bar but I got the el pastor and man was it not good. Sorry guys but big chucks of pineapple don’t happen in el pastor. My bad for not just going with steak.

Great food for a great price. The menu was a little confusing and hard to read but the service was adequate. Great place for being in a rush too. We enjoyed our meal.

My husband and I really enjoyed the food there. For the most part the people are VERY friendly there. Its a quick and fast place to eat for a good price. Would recommend it for a new place to try out if you like tacos.

This place is great. Fast and friendly service. awesome pricing(recently went up but still surprisingly low.) SUPER great food quality, the burritos are ENORMOUS and have delicious shells. Quick service. It’s our weekly Sunday lunch spot before we go grab a beer at Hop Yard. My favorite Mexican joint in Raleigh by far! You should go! Recommend: spicy chicken Tinga burrito with fried peppers and onions instead of beams, guacatillo salsa on the chips.

Happened to be driving by and decided to try this place out for the first time. Food and service was awesome! So many options. My husband got the shrimp tacos, I got rice and beans as did my 3-year-old. We devoured it with embarrassing speed. We’ll be back very soon!

Delicious fresh tasting Tex-mex food. Inexpensive and flavors are bright and tasty. I had the two spicy tacos, yum. I also like the chips are cooked in the store and there are so many sauces to use. Great food Chubby’s.

I walked in as a skeptic craving some cilantro heavy foods. I ordered a two taco combo and was really impressed. Fresh ingredients and the food wasn’t too salty or sodium heavy like many other Mexican food restaurants. I’m more impressed by the sauces available for the side of tortilla chips. The sauces are fresh and flavorful. There’s one for every kind of preference. Spicy, or mild, tangy, sweet, savory, etc. pleased and the price is right for what you get! Service was on point and the food was out in less than five minutes for two meals!

Probably my 6th visit to this place. I leave fairly pleased every time! I got the«Seafood Sampler» which comes with one fish taco & one shrimp taco. The combo comes with a choice of black beans or refried beans, rice, and chips. I love how they are not stingy about their chips! I love the plentiful chips along with the salsa bar. My favorite is the creamy green salsa, not sure what its called but the consistency looks like it has avocado in it. The workers are friendly and never had a problem with them. The atmosphere is very family friendly and just a great place to grab a quick bite to eat! Overall, pleased and leaving with a full tummy!

TLDR: Recommend you try somewhere else. Pros: Staff was young and friendly. The food was abundant and one of the staff offered to refill the chips for free. Salsa bar had plenty of choices. Some of them spicy enough to be interesting. Outdoor tables available. Cons: Too salty and heavily preserved tasting. Food tasted like it was freshly made to go into a can. That particular day, several screaming kids. Uncomfortable seating on the stools(angled downward) Neither: Inside, was dimly lit like you would expect a sit down restaurant, but the décor was more fast food. Everything is served on disposable plates and trays. Specific meal choices: Enchiladas plate, tinga chicken, with rice, and refried beans Bean and cheese burrito plus Al Pastor made meal with rice, and black beans 2 orders of Plantains — special price of $ 2/each on Sunday 2 orders of chips on trays. Total price $ 22.09

Everybody loves A Chubby !!!(so the T-Shirt says) Great Tacos. Spicy chicken is my fav. The shop can get kinda crowded at lunch and the seating is cramped inside and sparce outside .but if you want a delicious taco done right this is your place.
