I was out to play at an open mic night at Falls River music and had a hankerin’ for some good food. There were a variety of restaurants within walking distance of the music store so my bride and I talked about what we might be in the mood for and we settled on this little New York style Jewish Deli. Subway, move over. Quiznos — you got nuthin’ on this place! Jersey Mikes, pack it up and lock the doors. I’m a big fan of Pastrami on Rye, or a good Reuben sandwich and I was not disappointed. I think the nice woman who took our order was the only person working at that time so service seemed a little slow. This means it appears she was trying to do all facets of the job, the cooking, the cleaning, the customer service and everything else. If there was someone else in the back preparing anything we would never have known it. So far, this is the closest thing to «The Deli» in Herndon that we’ve found since moving to the Raleigh area, but it still doesn’t really compare. More expensive than your chain sandwich shops(see above), a little slower service, but oh so much better. What a great little find.

After deciding(sadly) that our old standby deli on Falls just wasn’t cutting it, my fiancé and I have been looking for another place to supply our early morning bagel cravings. A quick search on Unilocal turned up this place, and since it’s so close to the house, we checked it out a few days ago and were fairly impressed. My poppy bagel w/cream cheese was good and my fiancée reported that his bacon, egg and cheese bagel was great. The coffee was pretty good too, which earns major points for me. There seem to be several delis around that only offer truck-stop grade coffee, which for me just destroys my chances for enjoying a good bagel. Overall a good experience, but since we only had bagels, I cant really speak to too much of the menu. We’ll probably go back and check out the sandwiches sometime soon(there was quite an impressive array listed that I’m pretty eager to check out) so I’ll update this review when I get more info.

This place is a great find for North Raleigh. You can actually get a Pork Roll Egg and Cheese on a hard Roll, just like a Jersey Diner. The bakery here is also great with a nice Eastern European flare a la the owners. Aside from the prep time on your food being just short of a Lifetime(e.g. They are really slow) the food is worth it.

My wife and I found this place less than 2 weeks ago, and we’ve already eaten there 4 times. Since moving here from NY(a move we’ve not once regretted), we’ve desperately missed the deli sandwiches and bagels of our former home. Now we have this place, and we’re thrilled. You never know how much you’d miss a corned beef sandwich until you can’t get one. Everyone always thinks of pizza as the thing people miss most when leaving NY. But for me and my wife, its the eastern european Jewish food that they’re serving at FNYWL. And its perfect. Our first visit left us swooning, wishing we had 2nd stomachs so we could simply go on eating. If it weren’t enough that the food is great, so are the owners. They’re warm wonderful people who clearly want you to love their food as much as they do. We didn’t think they were slow(hey…good food takes time), and the Rueben sandwich is worth every second of whatever wait there is. Seriously…go and enjoy. Try the beef dumpling soup, or the borscht(cold beet soup). Make sure, if you order a sandwich, to get pickles on the side. They’re serving true NY Jewish sour pickles… impossible to get anywhere else here in NC. If you’ve never tried one, you’re in for a treat. Oh and have some cookies… they’re baking them themselves.
