I’ve been looking for simple Mexican eatery that serves ground beef tacos. I have now found that place in Chubby’s. Super pricing, free chips with entrée, salsa bar with lots of choices, vast menu, friendly & fast service. My ground beef tacos(I got two), were so tasty. The shells were just crunchy enough & the ground beef was seasoned perfectly. The cheese & lettuce weren’t piled on too much, which was good, since I added some pico on top. Parking isn’t an issue, even on a Saturday afternoon.

I’m one of those people that has reached a point in life and decided that if I’m going to eat food, it should be good. So I don’t go to many fast food joints anymore(unless it’s a last resort). This has become my go-to for tacos. Most are served traditionally with onions and cilantro only, and on homemade tortillas that taste so so much better than any I’ve ever gotten anywhere else in the area. Their chips are seasoned– not just with salt– and make excellent leftovers because of this unique seasoning blend. Staff is friendly too. Gets busy at nights so I recommend either coming early or late.(And don’t tell the folks in Durham, but I like this location the best)

You order at the counter and then sit down while you wait for them to bring the food. There’s probably 10 tables inside, then a few tables outside to sit at too. First, the food was delicious and at a decent price. I got the seafood combo, which was one fish taco and one shrimp taco. Both were VERY good, and I also liked the retried beans that came with it. They give you a small tray of chips and there is a salsa bar in the back with 10 or so choices to use. That was awesome and they have mild medium and hot ones. Second… I’m not sure about the cleanliness. Halfway into my meal, I looked over at the wood-panel wall to my right, and saw a large black bug crawl out of a crack, walk about a foot, and then crawl right back into another crack in the wall. I almost threw up in my mouth, and I grabbed a napkin and said«okay, I’m done.» I know that every place isn’t going to be perfect, but I have NEVER seen a bug near my table inside of a restaurant. My appetite was lost. Food was good, but be cautious about the cleanliness.

Food here sucked I don’t know how it has 4 stars. I could taste putrid oil in every taco. We asked for warm water and didn’t even get that. I don’t recommend this place to anyone even for the price.

A usual, good eats & good times place. A family favorite in Raleigh. Great variety of salsas & beers. Fast, friendly service with kid friendly menu & promos. Enjoy, we usually do!

The chargrilled chicken quesadillas are banging. I get mine with guacamole inside and a side or sour cream. My girlfriend always gets smothered chubbychanga with barbacoa. It’s equally as delicious. They give you a complimentary basket of chips and they have a salsa bar with about 8 different salsas. The house red salsa and the green avocado salsa are my two favorite. They also have a rotating salsa of the week. Yum!

Awesome tacos! The portobello taco was so flavorful — I highly recommend it if you’re a mushroom lover. They are kind enough to offer you a choice of tortillas, but don’t be that gringo, soft corn is the only way to go. I wish I lived closer so I could eat my way through the entire menue. Decent prices, fast service, epic salsa bar(I would also like to eat my way through that with a tub of those fresh chips).

I’ve been on the search for great Mexican food in the Triangle for 20 years and love Chubby’s. They have great meat, especially the carnitas and amazing burritos. Their tortillas are homemade and their salsas are some of the best I’ve had. I’d rate it as good as Dos Taquitos, but more casual and much more affordable. A line to the door is not uncommon, the secret is out!

I cannot say enough about how awesome Chubby’s is. Their Arbole salsa is hands down the best salsa I’ve ever had. Chips(endless bowl given with all meals!) are always fresh and not too salted. Their carnitas are always moist and delicious.

Chubby’s Tacos No pretension Just fairly authentic Skip the tummy bugs from the chains… Well, wait… Did Chubby’s get bought out? No, phew. I was worried. Google it out and you’ll find that the owner had to ditch the name due to legal eagles swirling around. There is a new name, and some fancy shmancy new menu boards that are too complicated and busy to flip through with your eyeballs unless the line is long. (and trust me, the line will be long ’cause you have to read the whole thing to find your favorites these days.) So that’s quite alright with me. Because my favorites are still there. And squeeze all the way to the back to get the assortment of little cups of yummy salsas and stuff. but don’t forget, you have to ask for the dammned lids cause they are behind the counter. Why O Why. I have experimented with a few items on the menu, but my go to, are the tacos.

Oh my. Chubbs and I are new friends today! The catered lunch at work was cancelled and I did not bring lunch on this rainy Monday. What to do? McD? Ewww no. I pull out my phone and the trusty Unilocal app says there is a Chubby’s 3 min away. What? I’ve been meaning to try this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Cheap eats fast and fresh and most importantly filling and tasty! I got the baja shrimp and the grilled shrimp taco both on soft corn tortillas. What is there not to like? The fried shrimp was not greasy or over cooked. The grilled shrimp was nothing exciting but good quality and with the toppings made a fabulous seafood taco. I don’t know what the creamy orange salsa was but it was fantastic. I’m glad I have extra so I can put it on everything when I get home. :) The pico is yummy –they even threw in a bag of chips which will go home since I’m full enough. Less than $ 10 for two filling shrimp tacos is enough for me to become a fan. Btw –Mine was to go –I don’t know if I would eat here as it is narrow and muchos crowded and the parking lot is terrible.

Our table ordered shredded beef tacos and a beef borrito. The tacos were amazing and the borrito looked delicious. We also tried several of the salsas from the complimentary bar and each one was very flavorful. This little hole in the wall is a diamond in the rough!

Yum yum yum! I loved this place. I am fish taco addict and their grilled talapia tacos are to kill for. And for the price? You can’t beat them! I’ve also tried their tacos al pastor and spicy carne asada both of which were also delicious. I love that they have an open salsa bar and I have, on more than one occasions, admitted to being a salsa whore. Their pico has always been fresh and just the right amount of spicy. The only thing I warn of there is steering clear of whatever the orange-colored sauce is. Kinda icky. It’s a small joint but is kept very clean. The service is exceptional and very fast. I will absolutely be back for more!

Great carne asada tacos, but other than that, I’ve had better. If I do go back I’ll stick to those, but I will not being trying the shrimp taco again and definitely not the chorizo. I felt cheated with amount of shrimp that came in the shrimp taco. I also prefer that my chorizo not be chopped/minced so tiny, but not a big deal. I was more so bothered by the amount of oil that came dripping out of my chorizo taco during each and every bite. Like I said, the carne asada tacos are good and worth coming back for. I just know of too many other authentic Mexican taco spots that may keep me away from Chubby’s for quite a while.

Oh Chubby’s, you have delicious tacos and I wish they were more reasonably priced, so I can get more of them and come back more often. I finally got the courage to try the portabella mushroom taco. Every time I go I look at the price and think I should just get a meat taco, but I had a dire mushroom craving and went for it. It was perfect. The flavor was great and it had a smörgåsbord of mushroom(well as much as you can have on one little taco). I will definitely get that taco again. I really like the flavors of Chubby’s tacos. My concern is that the tacos are small and expensive. This means that unless I want a light meal(which is rarely the case), I need to order an abundance of tacos and then I start thinking that at that price, I can just go to some other place and that is usually what happens. When I finally make it to Chubby’s, I always think that I should come here more often. I really like the authentic Mexican two-layer corn soft taco shells they use. The salsa bar is also pretty great; nice selection, good taste, and it has sliced jalapeños. When you order a taco it comes with a few complementary tortilla chips but not a lot. I guess I can’t complain since it is free.

Came back for a second time and was soooo disappointed. I had been talking this place up to a co worker and we both had the same opinion tonight. BLAND! We sampled 6 salsas and they all failed. Even the sliced jalapeños were bland. The worst was the chicken taco where the stewed chicken was swimming in some sort of sweet sauce. Blek! The also figured out how to ruin a steak taco by piling a bunch of romain lettuce on top. Bummer. I won’t be back.

My favorite place to get some tacos. I love love love their baja shrimp and baja fish tacos. I also like the spicy carne asada taco as well. Very delicious. They don’t skimp on meat so I’m full after eating two tacos with the chips. I actually don’t like the chicken tinga taco – I find it tends to be soggy, making the tortilla also mushy. Not a good texture. The free chips are addicting. They’ll give you more and more and more so don’t be shy. Especially when they also have the best sauce to go with it: the guacamole salsa one. I don’t know the actually name of it, but it’s the creamy green one at the salsa bar. DELICIOUS! Just thinking about that sauce right now, oh my. So yes, I highly recommend chubbys. At peak hours, there will be a line all the way to the door, but it’s so worth it.

We really enjoy this place. Apparently it will soon be called Guacamaya. Employee explained because of franchise opportunities, switching their name due to Chubby’s already existing in other states. It is a great inexpensive place to grab a taco. I had The fish taco(my favorite, well prepared with lettuce and a tasty sauce). Hubby had the torta. First time he tried it. While I never would have ordered it, I had a bite and it was really fresh and tasty. Great pork, fresh salad and loads of guacamole. He really liked the bread it was served on. Salsa bar is great. Although their chips aren’t my favorite. Service was good. One of our favorites and we will continue to visit(although we rotate between here at Guasaca).

If you’re looking for a lot of food for not a lot of money, then this is the place to go. The size of their burritos rival Chipotle, but for a significant drop in the price. Not to mention, you also get free chips and a wide selection at their salsa bar(the guacatillo and house salsa are my favorites). There is a more varied selection of filling for your tacos, burritos, or quesadillas than your typical burrito go-to, with meats such as al pastor(my personal favorite), barbacoa, carnitas, and more. And if you get multiple tacos, then you can experience a lot of those different flavors in one meal. Sounds like a winner to me. This time I decided to try a quesadilla filled with al pastor. It was very good, but I prefer the variety I can get with the tacos. If you plan to come for a burrito, make sure you are HUNGRY. The burritos are huge and they are also filled with refried beans which fill me up very quickly. While the ingredients don’t taste as fresh as what you would get at Chipotle, it is equally filling and still some solid tasty food. I give the food a solid 4 stars. During the normal dinner rush, Chubby’s can get full fast and it can be hard to find a seat, partially due to their small dining and room and partially because their food is just that good. It can get cramped inside, especially in the aisle from the cashier to the salsa bar, but don’t let that stop you. They do have outdoor seating, where they have a performer, which is nice when it is warmer outside. They also get an A+ for service. Ordering goes by quickly and our food came out before we even finished getting all of our salsas from the bar. Good service. Good food. Good prices. Done.

Some killer tacos at Chubby’s, for sure. Didn’t know what exactly to expect in the corner of a strip mall, but the fact that it was absolutely packed for lunch was definitely a good sign. My friends raved about it, so I figured it was a good place for lunch. The restaurant is cafeteria style, and there are a number of booths and high tables strewn around the counter area, with the beverages and salsa bar in the back. The line to order wasn’t long, but we still had to wait about 10 minutes for seating to open up. I felt pretty hungry so I got a chicken burrito and a chorizo taco. Food came out very quickly, and we stood outside for awhile before some seats opened up. I got their mango tea, which had a really good mango flavor, and wasn’t too sweet. The burrito was huge and delicious, and the chorizo was definitely spiced and meaty. Holy moly, it was good. Definitely better than the food at Chipotle. The meal came with chips, and you could go to the salsa bar in the back, which had a variety of salsas, dips, and pico de gallo. One of my favorites was the salsa verde, which was a bit smoother and flavorful than the rest of the salsas. Not sure what the orange aioli-like dip was, but that definitely packed a punch, and was also one of my favorites. I put it on my burrito and it definitely enhanced the flavor. I will definitely be back next time I’m in Raleigh.
