I came in here at a fairly random hour and honestly was not expecting much from the place at all. Well, to my surprise, I ended up with the freshest and most delicately fried okra I have ever had in my life. The hush puppies were also excellent. The potato salad was fresh and tasty, and the mac and cheese was fine but not amazing. Can’t comment on the meat because I only got a veggie plate.

Quite possibly the best baked potato I have ever had! On par or better prices than most of the nearby places downtown. Also a casual atmosphere with friendly service.

Barbecue isn’t my typical dinner choice, after living here for ten years i’m kinda barbecued out-BUT when i’m craving terrible for me– but oh so delicious ribs I almost always head to Dickey’s. While i’ve never seen it super busy the downtown location is always a good bet. The staff is friendly, the food is consistently good and the restaurant itself is always clean and tidy! Ironically their meats aren’t even my favorite thing here(though their ribs are delicious). I really enjoy their sides, especially the mashed potatoes casserole and the fried okra. The only thing i’m not a big fan of is the mac and cheese. It’s very Kraft-like a gooey so skip that. Also their free ice cream is very hit or miss, sometimes it’s a yummy consistency and sometimes it’s so milky and thin you can’t put it in a cone. If you need a quick downtown lunch be sure to stop by, they have great daily specials and you can usually get in and out without any problems!

Ok food. Guys behind the counter were pleasant. Lady who parked in front with her blinkers on and treated her employees rudely in front of me, not so pleasant. It is always an uncomfortable situation to be in. We have been to the Cary location before and I think the food was better there. I ordered a cookie and was disappointed to find it was prepackaged and was not very tasty.

Alright food, but wonderful customer service. The food was good, but nothing worth noting. However the ladies working the counter were very fast and friendly. They came out into the dining area to check on our group several times making sure we liked our food and seeing if they could get us anything. The best part was the free soft serve ice cream!

It’s a chain and I’m not one to review them much, but I I’m in the area. The hush puppies were very hard and dry. The meats, pulled pork was also dry and a tad bit crispy. The spicy cheddar sausage tasted mostly like cheddar. Lastly the brisket was okay. Grab your own pickles. The spicy and carolina sauces are the preference of all the sauces.

I have been here about 3x over the past 6 months and have been less than impressed. I used the term«mailing it in» in my previous review that was taken down by Unilocal.I stand by that assessment but will expand. The food could be described as «dumpy». It’s not served with any presentation, taste or texture. Nothing seems fresh. The employees/manager(s) seem indifferent. The place is mailing it in.

Was super excited to go and try them after hearing good things. Ordered the brisket salad for 7.50. It was the size of a to go hamburger container. And they forget the French onions and cheese… I will not be returning.

First off, since this Dickey’s is on Davie Street in downtown Raleigh, there is not much parking. The outside of the Dickey’s has a few tables, which is really nice on a beautiful breezy day. The inside is smaller then any other Dickey’s I have been to but then again it is downtown. The guys that worked there were really nice and friendly. The tables and overall restaurant were clean. For whatever reason, they were out of a lot of the sides, which was a huge bummer! Hush puppies, slaw, and fried okra were really good. The BBQ was average for a Dickey’s. Overall, my experience was mediocre today but with it being a chain it might be different next time.

I go to Dickey’s quite often, as it is within walking distance from the workplace. While the interior feels quite cramped, it’s not a huge problem for it’s location. Most people who are going in there are moving on the fly, as they’re taking food back to the construction site or the office anyway. The servers are friendly if you chat with them, and the service is prompt. The food itself varies a lot by what you get, and as such, that’s how I’m rating it. I stay with the pulled pork plate. It’s $ 9.90, and it’s 6oz of BBQ, 2 sides(I go with fries and mac & cheese), and hushpuppies. It’s a moderate amount of food, and pretty comparable in price to other franchises(such as Shane’s). The variety of sauces compliments the food well, and the different cuts of meat is great. Generally, I’m satisfied with the food. There are downsides to this particular establishment. The ketchup is always watered down to the point where I don’t actually eat it, because it tastes so… bad. I am a ketchup fanatic, but the ketchup here always tastes spoiled or funky to the point where it’s a detriment to the food. The price for a drink is nearly $ 3, and that’s just legalized robbery. A final complaint is that, sometimes, your portions seem«off». I had days where it seemed like my plate was filled with BBQ, and other times, I’ve opened my tray and been like«…is that it?». As other reviewers said, it’s the only time I’ve left a BBQ restaurant and been like«…I’m still kinda hungry». All in all, it’s an alright place that’s pretty consistent. But with the Pit down the street(some of the best BBQ in Raleigh if you’ve got the time) and Tyler’s Taproom a few blocks out(Carolina nachos = pulled pork, beer queso nachos = best thing ever), AND Cooper’s across the street, Dickey’s isn’t really able to claim the throne, and sits comfortably as «average».

Just had a BBQ sandwich there for lunch. REALLY unimpressed and will never go back. The only reason I went was because someone else picked the lunch spot. Way overpriced for what it is, and the pulled pork had no flavor. A normal sized BBQ sandwich buy itself(no sides or anything) is $ 5(it’s supposed to come with pickles and onions on every sandwich, but they didn’t put those on any of our sandwiches). Sides are $ 2 each??? Their«Carolina vinegar-based sauce» tasted like it was just vinegar. I’m not sure why anyone would eat here, especially when Clyde Cooper’s is across the street.

Me, my boyfriend and a friend of ours went here one Saturday for lunch. They both had the brisket with fries, I went with the chopped BBQ plate with cajun beans and fried okra. The meet was tender and juicy. As for the beans, they were very bland. I had to spice them up with hot sauce for them to have any flavor. That was a little disappointing fried okra was awesome plus they had a few tasty BBQ sauces! Also you get free ice cream with your food purchase! Who doesn’t love free ice cream?! Parking is a little hard, but there is a parking garage across the street that is free on the weekends, like all parking garages downtown. Overall, good for the price but maybe next time I will not get the beans!

Dickeys is the new addition to Downtown Raleigh’s BBQ wars. The Pit and Coopers have already made a foot hold here serving traditional eastern North Carolina BBQ. Dickeys is a chain, which these days is not necessary a bad word. Overall the food is good and the service is not bad. The fact they have different sauce sand different meat cuts is a plus. The down side is the food portions. Not all what you would expect at a atypical BBQ joint, very small. This is possibly the only BBQ restaurant I have ever left feeling hungry. I f there could be one improvement, please give the customer more food!

You know, I’m not one for chain restaurants but I think there are a couple of good ones out there! Dickey’s is a Texas que chain with over 160 locations and I couldn’t figure out why they’d open up a location in downtown Raleigh right across from Clyde Coopers. They must be confident in their food so I had to check ‘em out! I’ve been to their Cary location which was pretty meh to me but I’m an open-minded eater so what the heck… Dickey’s location on E. Davie is a bit tight. The space is small, 10 tables max and the order area is right by the door which makes the line tricky. The place was busy, several people walked in and out after seeing the line. I put my order in for a barbeque sandwich along with a side of hushpuppies and BBQ beans. Food service was quick and efficient, only took about 5 minutes or so but I had to take mine to go. Part of Dickey’s appeal is the free soft-serve which isn’t an option if you’re not dining in, boo! So how about the food? It was ok overall, the que was decently smoked with good portion size. Hush puppies were decent but only got four small ones. The BBQ beans were sorta blah and I should have been concerned when I saw a slew of large cans of baked beans from Sysco, ouch… So what’s the verdict? Out the door my meal cost me a bit over $ 8 without a drink. While the sandwich was ok, they sorta skimped on the sides which weren’t impressive to begin with. When you can walk across the street and get better food for less money at Coopers, or walk six blocks and get much better food, portions and ambiance at the Pit, Dickey’s has got me scratching my head again! With a drink this meal would have easily hit the $ 10 mark and all I can think is «what are you thinking?» A big meh to Dickey’s, here’s one case in which this chain really didn’t deliver the goods!
