I ate here for the first time New Year’s Eve due to Sono downtown being closed til 5 pm. I was kind of scared at first but food was great. I hate the place burned down. Pray they open back up soon.

I’ve searched near and far for the best sushi in the Raleigh area and hands down…“Sushi Nine” is the winner! I’ve been living in Raleigh, NC for the past 3 years and have tried sushi from all over the area and nothing is as good as sushi nine. Each time I visit, I know exactly how the roll should taste; consistency is the key. I also like just enough sauce on my sushi; not splattered and drowned with sauce. BOGO all day and everyday whether you’re eating in or taking out. That’s the up side of this sushi restaurant. The service is great on most days but I’ve encountered times when service was not so great. I prefer eating in for fresh sushi. The sushi options are enough but not overwhelming like most other places. I’ve tried the appetizers many times but not a big fan. I would say that the appetizers are the downfall of the menu. The pad thai is delicious and fresh each time I order it. I’m always open to trying out new rolls I love the ambient and atmosphere of the restaurant, reminds me of a ship.

Sushi Nine is «pretty good» in my opinion. I wouldn’t stretch to say I am a sushi connoisseur by any means, but I think there are better sushi places in the area. There are also a few places that I have had bad sushi at that I have never been back to, and Sushi Nine is better than those. I went with some friends last night. I ordered the Ohno, wasabi, sexy girl, & red dragon rolls. The sushi came out super fast! So fast in fact, that it beat our ginger salads out(I think they forgot about them because our waiter asked if we still wanted them, and we said no). I would definitely recommend the Ohno & wasabi rolls. The other two were fine I guess… A few of the rolls fell apart when trying to pick them up. Not sure if the rice wasn’t cooked well enough or they weren’t wrapped tight enough or what.

The service was very quick and the waiter was very knowledgeable. My niece and nephew tried sushi for the first time here and loved it.

We like to sit at the sushi bar & watch the sushi being made. Make sure you come more than a ½ hr before closing time or you can’t eat in. Their TNT, American Dream & Caterpillar rolls are our top three favorites. Don’t miss out on the seaweed or squid salads! There is draft beer available by the pint or pitcher, we like the Kirin. The place gets real busy after 6:30

Buy 1 get 1 rolls is a great deal. The other food(not the sushi) is AWFUL. Tastes like they went down the street to food lion and bought some microwave meal and heated it half way. BUT the sushi is consistently good. Highly recommend the sushi nine roll– it has seared beef which is a nice change of pace. Parking can be a problem on busy days(football games, etc).

The sushi here is basically the best around and it’s buy one get one. The only issue I have with this place is that it’s extremely busy on most nights because of the college crowd and it can take forever to get your food. I wouldn’t really recommend it for a nice quiet first date but I would recommend it for a get together with friends. The sushi is awesome.

This place is very popular among the college students since it is so close to campus and it has a buy one get one deal on all their sushi rolls. Because of these reasons, it may be hard to find spots during the dinner rush. There is a good variety of sushi. If you are craving for sushi, I would recommend the rolls. I don’t think I have had one that I did not enjoy. However, I would stay away from the sashimi. The fish here may not be the freshest at time, but you probably can’t tell when it is combined with bunch of other ingredients. My favorite roll is the tommy roll. Although this restaurant is more well-known for the sushi, my go to food is the duck. It does not matter which duck dishes I order, I know that I will not be disappointed. The duck was roasted before stir-fried with the rest of goodies so the skin remained very crispy. The roasting also made the every bite packed with flavor! They are a little pricey compared to the other dishes on the menu, but they are worth every penny.

I’ve frequented this place a few times now in the past couple years and the quality is consistent. I’ve had their vegetarian sushi(and yes they have more than just a cucumber or avocado roll). I’ve also had their drunken noodles with tofu which are full of flavor and customizable to your taste and spice level. I’ve even celebrated my birthday here and the service was great! Great sake selection in all price ranges! This place is a bit hidden on Hillsborough St but a great find!

Close to NC State in Raleigh and a very popular hang out. Large sushi boats, a variety of appetizers, and a combination of a few Asian cuisines(Japanese, Chinese, and Thai in particular) are done well. The Green Curry had large deveined shrimp in a bowl full of vegetables and plenty of broth. The Drunken Noodles had plenty of chicken and the addition of tomatoes. The Salt and Pepper Calamari had a crispy exterior and a tender(instead of tough) interior. Delicious. The Sexy Shrimp was a family favorite, and we had to have another order. The Lobster Tempura Roll was well done and delicious, but the Cucumber Roll was the smallest we’ve ever seen with barely any cucumber. We wondered if the kitchen was out of cucumber! That was the only drawback of our visit. If you plan to eat at Sushi Nine on a weekend, arrive before 6:00pm to get a quick seat. If you wait, enjoy the televisions playing sports at the sushi bar or fixate on the fish tank. We’ll return for sure.

Never disappoints — friendly staff and excellent sushi. I’ve been here twice in one week! My dad isn’t even a huge fan of sushi and he said it’s the best sushi he’s ever had. BOGO is icing on the cake.

This place is always packed! Everytime I’m down in Raleigh, I go here for my sushi fix. They always have a BOGO special with the sushi rolls. Be prepared to go through a lengthy sushi menu(~50 different sushi rolls) ranging from $ 9-$ 15. My go to is always the Sweet Dragon and Red Dragon rolls, both are $ 13 but since its BOGO, it’s only $ 13 :). The entire menu is pretty vast and you can get lost in finding what entrée you want. My sister got the pineapple fried rice last time and it came out in a halved pineapple! That was pretty sick. Be sure to check out the daily drink specials. I know on Saturday they have $ 3 sake bombs. If you just want a drink, you’ll find plenty of space between the two bars they have. Parking is a pain sometimes when it is really busy, so you may have to park in the sketchy unpaved second parking lot behind the restaurant. Regardless, the sushi here is definitely worth coming and indulging in.

Best Sushi Around! My family and I travel to Sushi Nine all the time for a nice meal. We have loved the place since our first visit! We always order 8 or 10 rolls to go along with their BOGO deal. The employees(who are very well mannered) bring a table-sized boat filled with all of our sushi and tell us which is which. Even though we forget the names, the boat is empty within minutes. Our drinks are always refilled and our empty dishes are taken away quickly. If we are having a slow day, we don’t feel rushed out the door due to their long operating hours. For any other sushi lovers, I would recommend trying the insane eel roll and the caterpillar roll. The fish is always of great quality. NOTE: If you arrive on Friday/Saturday night during the school year, good luck finding a seat!

Sushi Nine is one of my favorite BOGO sushi restaurants in the Wake County area. They not only have BOGO for dine-in, but take out as well. There are only a few other sushi restaurants that do that nearby. Their raw fish is always fresh and their rolls are rolled tightly as well. I’ve been to other restaurants where the rolls fall apart as soon as you pick them up! The wait staff has been there for awhile. I always notice familiar faces. They are friendly and quick to bring the orders out. The seating is perfection being that there is a variety. There are intimate tables, bar seating, booths, and outdoor seating. There is also a full bar with plenty of options and daily drink specials. I recently ordered the Vegas roll and the Samu roll. The Samu roll is great, although it is very fishy, with both Salmon and White fish. So beware if you are not a big fan of raw fish. The Vegas roll is one of my favorites from Sushi Nine. The soft shell crab comes in big pieces with a noticeable taste. It’s topped with Tuna to balance the flavor. Definitely worth a try. My suggestions: Tommy roll(salmon skin), Spider roll(soft shell crab), & Caterpillar roll(eel/scallops). Get your BOGO sushi!

Overpriced. Mediocre quality. Too busy to care. Upon getting takeout at sushi nine today, my boyfriend had an allergic reaction to their spring rolls. We called to ask about some ingredients in their food and the host(young woman, possibly named Audrey) asked her manager about MSG, to which she assured that there wasn’t any in their food. I asked her if she knew about any other ingredients, one being fish sauce. She replied, «you’re going to have to come in and talk to the chef, because I don’t have time to run around and ask everyone what’s in our food. I’m busy trying to seat people». I found that conversation to be pretty off-putting. If I owned a restaurant and one of my employees said that to a customer who was having an allergic reaction I would not hesitate to fire her.

Sushi nine is overpriced and gives smaller portions. If you want good sushi go to Sushi O on Glenwood Avenue! I compare most sushi places to Sushi O and Sushi Nine wasn’t impressive. I think they stay busy because of their proximity to NC State’s campus. They’re rolls are smaller than most places so you have to order extra to actually eat a meal.

The sushi is not gorgeous, but it is still good! I know the point of sushi is as much presentation as it is taste, but to be honest, I am more broke than rich, so I am still really happy with it! Service is sometimes not the best, but they do have some servers who are consistently excellent, such as the one who waited on me and my boyfriend last night, Dion. I know how little servers get paid, so saying«he needs a raise» is ludicrous(it’s 2.13/hour for those who don’t know… So tip well!), but Dion is an excellent server: knows the menu, quick to refill drinks and to get dirty plates and trash off the table quickly. He presented the check and got the card back quickly, too, all with out making us feel rushed. Sushi Nine needs more servers like him! I have only had one negative experience, and it was during lunch. I wanted to take my sister there, but after we were seated, we waited thirty minutes before asking the hostess if anyone was coming(my sister and I have worked in restaurants, so we were trying to be patient, but we were two of 5 customers in the entire house…), and even then no one came, so we left. So yeah, that’s pretty bad, but I have gone there several times before and after that, and it’s been good/great service!

I would give Sushi Nine a 3.5 if allowed. Based off the other Unilocal reviews, my husband and I tried this place out last night. The restaurant itself is a huge space, and yes, it was filled with mainly college students. Arriving at 6:15pm we waited for only about 10 minutes. Our table was tucked nicely in the back corner. On Fridays Sushi Nine offers $ 3 drafts(unheard of!). A few NC brews available including Double Barley, Red Oak, and Lonerider. My husband ordered the BOGO sushi: Mr. Wuf and the North Carolina rolls. While the sushi took longer than my food to arrive, he gave both rolls two thumbs up, giving a slight edge to Mr. Wuf(the tempura crunch set it a notch above). Both were spicy as well, which he liked. I was disappointed in the lack of vegetarian sushi available. Zero? I ordered the Thai Papaya salad and the Golden Square(fried tofu). We also split edamame while we waited. The edamame came out nice and hot, slightly salted. The tofu was ok: pretty flavorless, and the chili sauce that accompanied the dish was tasty but not quite the right sauce in my opinion. The papaya in the salad was crunchy and delicious. The rest of the salad was pretty sad: wimpy romaine lettuce and tomatoes with zero taste. The lime dressing was refreshing but there was no heat to be tasted. We had excellent service, despite the rush. I would return to try some of the entrees, especially since the hubs liked his sushi. I can see why college students flock to this establishment!
