Good value for sushi. Not the greatest be definitely not the worst either. Staff is pretty efficient and they have a good variety. Their sushi is priced really nicely and you get a lot. The downside is that the fish isn’t quite as flavorful as some other places around town. I feel like the rice they use is cheap too. Good for a quick and easy sushi fix, they aren’t terribly crowded in the evenings and there is a ton of available parking since there aren’t that many other thriving businesses near them although that may change when Popeye’s opens.

Great food, good service, and an affordable dining experience. First and foremost– many reviewers have found the location to be «not in a great or safe area» but when we went… it wasn’t the greatest looking place but there wasn’t sheer chaos either. I felt safe. Now the food– The rolls were 5.95(Lunch @ 1pm) and were served immediately by the sushi chef at the bar. Many other sushi restaurants charge for sides of Unagi sauce, Spicy Mayo, or Tobiko– but they gave it to us without cost. We were able to get 4 very generous rolls for 25 dollars!!! Heck, it was plenty that my spouse and I had to bring some home. They also packed me a side of Tobiko for the road! Great! Great! Great! I am glad I tried this place! Will come back when I am around the area again!

Unexpectedly delicious for a place that is in a very shady location. This is not their fault, however, the strip mall and business died out and left them there to fend for themselves. The Bento boxes are excellent and the prices are unbeatable. This place is quite small, but quiet and has quality food.

Not a bad sushi place! I had the chicken ramen and a sunrise roll with some saki. The ramen was pretty good, and there was a lot of it. I needed someone else to help me finish it! The maki was pretty good as well.

Y’know, some people are a little haughty when it comes to food, especially sushi. Botan is not a sushi place that you’ll write home about. But, for the price, the service, and laid-back environment, I don’t see how this is a restaurant that deserves less than 3 stars. This is not my favorite sushi spot, but it is for the immediate area that I live in. There are about 4 – 6 sushi options(within a couple miles) for me and I find myself going back to Botan often. Service: Love it. The entire staff is nice. Food: Great portions. Damn affordable. Are people seriously complaining about a $ 5.95 roll? Let’s take your whole $ 6 to another sushi restaurant and see how much you get for it… does it even pay for your tiny bowl of spicy edamame? Let’s not compare apples to oranges. Location: Okay. I come here on Fri/Saturday nights. As a small female, I can say that I’m not fazed. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t let my 5 year old walk in this area unsupervised. If you walk around in South Sac and enjoy those small, run-down, mom and pop shops, don’t think of Botan as any different. Anyway, this little plaza area looks like it is under construction and the newer develop might have a trickle effect with the rest of the plaza. Overall: Botan is not this best sushi place that you’ll ever eat at, but it has good food and it won’t burn a hole in your wallet. Love the 911, Dynamite, and Sunrise rolls. Solid spot to have dinner or lunch.

Okay place. It’s hidden and no other businesses around. The place looks run down from the outside but it’s really nice inside. It’s pretty clean too. The food is okay. Not the greatest. Kind of expensive, around 8 bucks per sushi roll and they only give you about 6 pieces or get the lunch time stuff for 5 bucks and get 3 pieces instead(had to order 3 rolls to make one roll for lunch time) and cost you a good 20 bucks. So the portions are very small for the price and they take a long time. It’s okay if you’re looking for cheap sushi. Where I live in folsom rolls are 20 dollars per one, so the pricing isn’t too bad here. This is a hit or miss.

This is my favorite place to buy sushi. Friendly staff, fast service, and excellent quality for a low price. I always buy rolls, and they are always satisfying. Ambiance is not the best. Other than that, I would recommend Botan to anybody.

I reaaaaally wanted to like this spot, really. I’ve only given one star to one other restaurant(no longer in business) that really earned zero stars. Botan did earn one star for the customer service but regrettably the food was not palatable. I was excited watching the rolls be prepared, and whisked off to the table behind us. I told my husband, «I’m ordering whatever that guy ordered!» The miso soup was lukewarm but closer to cool/cold and served without spoons(there were only chopsticks on our table). No biggie since I could take it or leave it, so we waited semi impatiently for our sushi(note: I noticed one of we four parties in the restaurant for total of 6 people, with only one sushi chef in house but I thought, «Hey, maybe everyone is heading to lunch late today,» and shrugged it off). My husband and I ordered the 911, TNT, Botan, and Dynamite rolls. I tried one piece, kept quiet as my husbands palate is more forgiving than mine, and tried another piece of a different roll. Same result. Absolutely no flavor at all, even the rice which is essentially void of flavor already. I saddled up and tried a third piece(like ok maybe it’s me). Nope, same result; completely void of flavor. So I caved and told my husband I couldn’t finish my lunch, the food was next to eating air, no flavor. Before I reached my wits end however, I asked for eel sauce in hopes of giving the sushi some life. Nope. The sauce was house made, and had a watery, syrup texture and no taste(I’m not making this up folks really). The waitress referred to the sauce as teriyaki but it wasn’t(teriyaki is made of brown sugar, soy sauce and garlic, none of which appeared or tasted to be present in what I’d call the«secret sauce»). To my surprise, even my husband said you’re right no taste I’ll get the check so we can get out of here. We’ve never left sushi on the table. My brave hubby finished one roll, I finished 20%. The presentation was also sloppy. I had tale tale signs but I wanted to stay positive since I’d seen some good reviews. This is a no return for me. My highly anticipated sushi lunch ended up being a taco supreme from Taco Bell

Searching on Unilocal for some good sushi & a good price. I stumbled upon Botan sushi and was presently surprised that all of their rolls were 5.95 for the lunch special. Typically, it’s just a few basic rolls and then a little more for«premium rolls». So I was excited to try… After reading reviews I tried the 911 roll it was really good! I love the raw fish & the spicy mayo sauce. Now I also got some sesame chicken… it was ok, but the only thing that disappointed me was that there was no sesame seeds on the chicken. I kind of understood because the sauce was served on the side so there was nothing to bind the sesame seeds to the chicken. But still… Overall, I’ll be back.

It is located in a «not-so-nice» area. 2.5 stars because the building and the parking lot freaked me out. Definitely not a place to go with your family. There is no price advantage to make up for the poor ambience/location. I guess they are popular among the office crowd though. I got the Folsom Roll to go — it was ok.

It seems like every time I try a new place with the work crowd, I always end up ordering the wrong thing. I ordered the sashimi platter. Mind you, it wasn’t the«wrong thing» to order, but I’m on a diet, and you can’t get much better diet food than sashimi, now can you. But the bento boxes… those were huge. They were the best looking bento boxes I’ve seen to date at a Japanese restaurant. And the prices were fairly reasonable. Now, it’s not located in a very nice place, bums like to hang out in front of the vacant storefronts(and the pizza place) next door, but that aside, it’s decent. This is not a pretentious place and it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s a place where you can get your sushi on at a reasonable price, and have some beer and sake. I will try this place again.

The waitresses and waiters here are super friendly, the price is right, and the restaurant is very spacious. The restaurant is located in a huge plaza so parking is very simple. Food was great the bento box was huge

First time here and I can understand why a lot of people like it. First off, their price is unbeatable. For $ 5.95 you get 8 pieces roll which have varieties of decent quality fish. Their selection of sushi rolls isn’t huge, but enough for everyone to find something they like. I ordered 911, and right away, a couple who sat next to me looked at me and asked«have you had that before? it’s very spicy!» I was excited to hear that because I love spicy food. Quite dissapoited to find out the roll does not even have a slight kick to it. Not sure what the warning was about. We also ordered salmon poppers which are just fried salmon with big ball of cream cheese. Wasn’t a big fan of it. The tempura combo was one dish I did like, even though it had a lot of batter, the doneness of the veggies were just right. My bf had House Ramen which took really long to make but he loved it. The ramen has an unexpected fishy smell which I didn’t enjoy, but that’s just my opinion. Service was OK, we came in on a very busy night so we didnt receive the best of attention. Overall, not bad. I’d come back mainly for the price.

This is a place that you can’t judge based on the exterior. Yes it’s in a run down plaza but going inside, it was a typical sushi restaurant. It was clean and so were the bathrooms. I went there for lunch. I ordered a roll, two piece sushi and a soda. I got all this for 12 bucks. Pretty good deal. The sushi was good and filling. There lunch specials are all rolls for 5.95. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. I would recommend this place if your on a budget since it doesn’t break the bank. I would come back again.

This is a family owned sushi restaurant located in the Zinfandel plaza which is a beat down plaza but the restaurant itself is nice and clean. First off is the rolls are only 5.95 !!! Which is superb because there rolls are good but a bit of a shorter list compared to other places but it still has variety to it. You can also design your own roll for a different price or you can always tell the chef to whip up a special roll just for you which is also different from the menu. My favorite roll is the chicken roll with cream cheese and the sunrise roll which both are delicious and if you don’t want the crunchy panko shrimp you can request for tempura shrimp which is a bonus and you can alter your rolls too for an additional cost but it’s worth it because they don’t charge you ridiculously for little things. The bento boxes portion here is huge and the price is pretty decent whether it’s dinner or lunch. The waiters and waitresses here are always helpful and there when u need them. Overall I highly recommend you give this place a try … You won’t be disappointed … Oh btw all the small 12oz beers are only two dollar !

Came here because it was a block away from my house. The outside looks super run down and the plaza does not look like it has a lot of customers. The inside is small with a big screen tv. Anyways, for the food. Me and my BF were full off of 3 rolls! That is not usually like us. And the rolls were $ 5.95 each despite the menu saying a different price! We ordered: 911ROLL. I think this was my favorite. I can definitely taste the tuna. FOLSOMROLL. This was my BF’s favorite. The scallops were yummy and the salmon tempura, but I felt like I just tasted yummy batter and none of the salmon. SEAREDSTEAKROLL. The seared tuna was flavorful, but the roll part was lacking. I would definitely stop by for some cheap, decent sushi to satisfy my fix. And I crave sushi ALLTHETIME.

Love this restaurant. I’ve been going here for years now and will say it is worth the drive from Folsom. The rolls and food portions such as the bento box are large and reasonably priced as well. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming! My favorite roll is the rainbow roll that has all kinds of fish on it. Make sure to ask for it with all the sauces! Additionally, the Kings roll & Botan roll are also good! I always make sure to pick one up after my VA visits. I recommend this place to all sushi lovers!

Not a bad little spot. The shopping center is crap and the décor is pretty bland. Our waitress was very pleasant and prices were cheap. Boyfriend had cheap beer and sake. We ordered calamari as an appetizer. Waitress came back and said they were out. So we had fried oysters stead. They were very good. We also had a Botanist roll which was good. I liked the size of the roll. I hate too big, poorly wrapped rolls. I do wish they had more variety. My boyfriend had the seared ahi dinner and it was great. Fish was fresh and sliced and seared nicely. I had katsudon. I grew up in Japan, and it’s always been a favorite dish of mine. The pork cutlet was good but I needed more of the egg mixture and sauce. Was just so-so. We will definitely give it another shot.

I was actually pleasantly surprised. This sushi place is located in a dingy old plaza that is usually empty. Who would think there’d be a decent sushi joint here? The décor leaves a lot to the imagination, but don’t let that deter you from giving this place a try. The service was great. Our waitress was nice and friendly. We were never rushed and they accommodated my friend and her baby. We both ordered the chirashi. I know, it could’ve been a big mistake since I initially felt iffy about the place. However, the chirashi was amazing. The fish was fresh. The cuts and number of pieces was generous compared to most places I’ve been to. Definitely well worth it and I would come back for more. They have really good lunch deals.

I’d missed this place if it weren’t for Unilocal because it’s tucked in an area that’s away from the main thoroughfair. Service and food are good. Unfortunately, I’ve yet to find a Japanese restaurant in the Rancho Cordova area that has blown my mind and taste buds, but this place will suffice.
