Very welcoming staff and owner, but food left a lot to be desired. As someone who is both Hispanic and originally from California, this was not authentic Mexican food at all with many of the ingredients being either store-bought(chips and tortillas) or bland in flavor(carnitas). I understand they need to keep costs low, and from the other reviews a lot of locals and Anglos may actually enjoy this place’s food, but I will not be going back there, not worth it in my opinion.

This is a hidden gem in Charlestown. We had the fajitas and guacamole dip. Everything was homemade and fresh including the refried beans! Generous portions. We have eaten at Mexican restaurants all over this area and this will be our new regular spot.

I am so happy to find a place near the casino to grab a decent bite to eat. I was recommended Taco Mex and decided to give it a shot for take out. Called and made my order and was curious at first what it would be like, but when we arrived we were greeted at the door by Mario(sp?) one of the most cheerful and friendly manager I have ever met. He talked to us the whole time we were waiting for the food to finish and explained that in the past the restaurant wasn’t doing to well but they have made major changes and improvements and plans for more in the future! I can’t wait to see what else they do on my next visit, and this time i will be dinning in! The food to go was delicious! when they say they are cooking everything fresh they really mean it. The portion sizes were huge, my mom and i both got dinner and left over lunch out of ours and were still so stuffed we couldn’t finish our sides. I had the fajita burrito with green sauce and it was delicious, truly authentic flavors and at first glance it wasn’t what i was hoping for but after my first bite i realized it was exactly what i needed. I got to try a bite of the enchiladas too which was equally satisfying. they had some kind of creamy cheese white sauce over them, I’m not sure what it is called but it was so good I wish i had some to dip my chips in. I am so happy to have found such a great restaurant in a town that has limited dining options. I hope more people can discover this place or give it a second chance sense its renovations, i would love to see it survive and become a regular spot for my frequent visits to West Virginia and the casino!

The environment was great. I’m generally not a big Mexican food eater, but this place was amazing! The food was perfect. There was so much variety and it was FRESH. The staff was extremely friendly. I’ll be back very shortly with more friends. Excellent job!

Overall this is a good place. I would have liked the food to be seasoned more. The portions were a good size. The dining room could be managed better. I’ll be back to try other dishes.

I went there on a whim, even after being warned that people had upset tummy’s after they ate there. When we sat down, the salsa that was brought to us had a nice flavor. The day I went, I wasn’t really hungry, so I ordered an appetizer, the super nachos. When they were brought to me, it was a platter of nachos that could have been shared with 10 people, so much for a small dish. The flavor of the ground beef was ok, but I’ve had better. I would compare the nachos at this place to a dissected taco bell taco over tortilla chips. The nachos had lettuce, which is unusual for me. My friend ordered the Fajitas with beef and shrimp and said that the flavor was good, but he wished that there had been more meat. There were a lot of bell peppers and onions on the skillet after all the meat was gone. All in all, it was a good meal and I will definitely be back to try some other dishes.

My fiancé and I were craving some Mexican food near Charles Town, and we found their Facebook and decided to go get dinner there. Taco Mex is inside a building that looks a lot smaller on the outside than it actually is He ordered the fried tilapia and had nothing but good stuff to say about it. I had to try some of it! It was crispy and very well-seasoned. I had some chiles rellenos, and although I liked his dish, I liked mine better and barely let him have a bite :) I don’t know why one of the reviews on here says the place didn’t look very clean– honestly, I thought quite the opposite. I used to restroom(which I’m very picky about) and was surprised by the cleanliness of it, as most restaurants focus so much on their dining area that they neglect their bathrooms. Our waitress was a young woman with who was very sweet and accommodating to our needs; I was happily surprised to learn that they do a la carte dishes. I know most places will change a dish if you ask them too, but they’re usually not happy to do it, and I definitely haven’t run into many who actually advertise that they will if you want them to! The reason why I am not giving this place five stars is that the menu was a little too extensive for me and overwhelmed me just a tad. However, I’ve been to several Mexican restaurants in the area and have noticed that they all tend to have large menus, so this isn’t really a big deal. Overall, the service was A+, the place was clean, the portions were plentiful, and the food was very good. We are hoping to treat our friends by introducing them to Taco Mex next time we have a double date.

The place looks more like an Asian restuarant than mexican and smells like a deep fryer which only makes sense because the food was also very greasy. The staff was friendly but our food was missing the guac and sour cream it said it had and when we told them it was missing they only brought it for 1 person. We also had to ask for refills after they were nice enough to bring us 2 other salsas to sample. My mom said her burrito wasnt that warm, my empanadas were so greasy I got a stomach ache, but the chips were good. I probably wouldn’t come here again but my parents would. I’d give this place *2.5 stars*.

Made my second visit to this restaurant today and still a fan. The service is super friendly and the food is homemade — this is no Americanized Chi Chi’s type place! But seriously, it is good food and the prices are really reasonable. I had the pork zopes for lunch today and ordered the meal(includes 2 zopes — which is like an open face taco on baked corn tortillas — rice and beans) for $ 12.99. I could have done just fine with 1 zope that only costs $ 4.99. One downside is they don’t seem to have a liquor license so if you go for dinner and want wine, bring your own(which also helps on cost). They are generous with their portions and their salsa and chips! They also provided us a couple of super hot homemade sauces(we are pepperheads) and that just made the meal. Super super super friendly service — some of the menu might be a little foreign to folks but don’t be hesitant to ask questions or just try something new.

Will I kinda had hoped I could rate this better but let’s just start… 1. the wife and I had to share a menu… 2. The salsa they give you with the chips was water thin and tasted like water and onions and our cheese dip. was cold, just as thin and had no flavor 3. They have a small menu but lots of meat options for some dishes. .including beef tongue and bbq sheep… good for some i guess but we kept it simple… 4. My tacos were warm and had ok flavor. nothing great. 5. The wife’s chicken fajitas were barely warm and had a strange gray color to them but also had no flavor… although the tortillas were pretty warm 6. The rice and beans weren’t bad but again. .warm 7. Décor isn’t bad it’s an old place they redid so it’s ok. All in all i wish i could say more really good things about it this place. .the food 1 star. .the people, i assume the family owners were nice and a 3 – 4 star rating, but its 8pm on a Friday and we were the last customers… so that kinda tells you how it was. There are 3 better Mexican places within 8mins.
