I like fried chicken. I usually eat at Church’s, but today I stopped at this Popeye’s. Here’s the negatives: no small soda lids, buttery spread rather than butter. Here’s the positives. Crispy skin, with flavor on the chicken, not greasy. Coleslaw was creamy and sweet and fresh. Lunch for under 7 bucks, and they have Strawberry soda.

I would give a half of a star if it was an option. We lived in Raytown a few years ago, and we recently moved back. We had forgotten how bad this Popeyes store was, but we were reminded tonight. We ordered the 9 piece family meal to go. After I had already started eating, my husband pointed out to me that we only got 8 pieces and 4 of them were wings. He called the store to complain, and their solution was for us to pack everything back up and bring it back for an exchange. Obviously, this was not a reasonable option for us. Needless to say, we are done with Popeyes for good.

Raytown was once described as a culinary wasteland which is very accurate. I don’t even know why I ate here. I think I might have been a dare or lost bet. When I pulled through the drive thru I ordered a poorboy with stuff on it. It took several tries before the person understood me. No problem, I’ll pass this off as a faulty intercom. I get to the window and realize the break in communication isn’t with equipment but the operator. I tried to hand the person my money but they kept slapping the window closed before I could make the hand off. I asked for un sweet tea and am not sure what kind of soda I received. The sandwich was all bread yet somehow gave me instant heartburn. I’ll stick to chicken pieces next time. from somewhere else.

DONOTGOTOTHISPOPEYES. I normally don’t rate chains since they’re generally all the same, but this requires an exception. The manager needs to get control of this location. Three times we’ve gotten food here, three times they mess up the order. This last time they entirely forgot one order of chicken. We returned to pick it up, they gave it to us. When we returned home we found it was spicy, not the original chicken. Really guys, it is just not that hard. Three strikes, you’re out.

I’ve gone from visiting this Popeye’s twice a month to once a month — now never. The portions just keep getting skimpier. A recently purchased 9-piece meal consisted of 1 breast, 1 thigh and 7 scrawny legs and wings. Staff is indifferent, if not rude. Feels like Excellent service if they mumble a «thank you». I might check out the State Line or Johnson Drive location sometime in the future when I’m out that way but for now, the Popeye’s brand has left a sour(yet spicy) taste in my mouth.

Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits offers up my very favorite«fast-food» chicken bar none! It’s crispy and juicy and tender and the spicy version has just the right amount of kick in that crunchy crust. But Hubby likes the mild version best and it has to be white meat for him. Me, I like it ALL just fine. The Raytown location is closest to us so it’s where we visit most often. The staff is always helpful and cheerful and we generally get our order to go and get a dinner deal with a couple of sides. That way we have the makings of a late night snack or lunch next day. The sides we seem to like best are the Cajun Rice and the Red Beans & Rice and the Green Beans are good enough to be termed home-made. The meal deals are served with light and fluffy biscuits and be sure to remind your server to send home some of those little packets of honey. It’s a good meal for the money, but the Chicken is still the Star! Makes me hungry for some just writing about it.
