Dave and his crew do a heck of a job! I go there at least once a week and am always pleasantly surprised at what I find. Dave’s son, Chris, makes the best boudan and andouillette sausage I have ever had, and my grandmother is from the south. She tried it, and said she’d have to get back up here to take some home. The pork loin is amazing, and if you get hamburger, have a little pork shoulder thrown into the mix for a tender juicy burger!

If you are grocery shopping for your big family and want to do a month’s worth of power shopping, The Store probably ISN’T where you want to go. But IF you are shopping for a month’s worth of excellent quality beef, pork, buffalo and deli meat and cheese THESTOREISDEFINITELYYOURPLACE! At The Store, you are going to find an old-school glass front meat case and real, honest to goodness butchers that are helpful, friendly and extremely good at their jobs, standing right there behind the meat counters and ready to help you with your purchases. Dave(who is the son of the original owner – now retired) has been doing this for almost 20 years and has trained his son Chris to be nearly as good as he is. You can tell them what you want or ask their help in figuring out how many servings you need for your family. They will wrap your order in old-fashion white butcher paper and may mark the weight on the wrapper in wax pencil. If you don’t see exactly what you are looking for in the case, they can probably help you with that, too. They carry Boars Head deli meats and cheese and the quality is so good that we seldom go anywhere else. They can make up meat and cheese trays for your special events that are wonderful and everyone raves about. We are also loyal to the skinless hot dogs that they sell and always get a few packages of four to keep in the freezer for when we really«need» a hot dog fix. And I love the pimento and cheese spread that they sell and stock up on a tub of that at Lent every year. It’s just better than what is offered at the regular grocery store. If you really need a couple of other things while you are visiting The Store Meat Counter, they do have a modest selection of items such as bread, milk, peanut butter, dry cereal, beer, etc. I know that there ARE a few retired people who do nearly all their shopping there so it can be done. It is just that the Meat Market part of the business is pretty much the Star Attraction. The quality of meats at The Store just cannot be stressed enough. It is worth a trip from any where in the Metro area and I consider myself lucky that we live nearby to this great old-fashioned meat market.

I’ve driven by this meat market several times but never really felt the need to go in, even though the idea of going to a butcher always seemed more appealing than buying God-knows-what at the grocery store. So, I finally did it, and I was pleasantly surprised. This is an old-fashioned meat market. No frills whatsoever, and that’s the way they like it. When you walk into The Store, you’re pretty much instantly transported into a long-ago, much simpler time. Vess Cola on the shelves, handwritten signs, and vintage metal signs all over the place. The Store has a good selection of BBQ sauce and rubs, Boar’s Head deli meats and cheeses, wood, and of course, meat. I was also pleased to see that they had fresh Amish brown eggs, which I haven’t tried yet, but will soon. Their prices are the same as or in some cases, less than the grocery stores. A good selection of your basic meats — steaks, chicken, ground beef, pork chop, franks, etc. They also have ground buffalo, but nothing too different(from what I remember). But from what I’ve tried, everything tastes fresh, and The Store is close enough to home that I don’t feel the need to go back to a grocery store for meat again. Also, great customer service. Though I’ve only been in twice, the kind owner remembered my husband and I on our next trip in. A little goes a long way.
