Came here for breakfast, ordered a sandwich to go. The cashier decided to add cheese to the order without request. I’m lactose intolerant and had to throw this out when I got home.

sloppy preparation. under cooked burger. re-cooked in the same bun after bitten into. seriously!!! high price for such lack of attention to what ought to be a pretty basic meal. I’ll go to a diner next time.

We had lunch and it was awesome. We had the roasted eggplant sandwich and the Cubano special sandwich. Both were excellent! The service was great — they are so professional. Actually, we ordered two Classic Turkey Club sandwiches to take home, which were excellent, too. Great food, great service and great prices — thank you!

sorry this place is just a waste of space. It seems like the area gentrified around it and all it could figure out how to get gluten-free prepackaged biscotti’s. I’ve been here twice for breakfast and always been underwhelmed, but I always ate the biscotti’s. The side of breakfast potatoes tasted like a soggy sock on a November morning. It was cold mushy and clearly made with no love. thank God for the biscotti’s.

Fresh fare served with a friendly guiding hand. My girls opted for the simple: a cheese sandwich and a bagel. My husband enjoyed the smoked salmon baguette. The Hudson Valley Chicken BLT was delish. Fresh Multigrain bread and all the fixings were top notch.

This is a cool café-style restaurant right on the corner of the main intersection in Red Hook. Nice specials and cool drinks. Grab a kombucha or maybe a local craft beer. Pretty casual and quaint overall.

J & J’s Gourmet is a great place to grab a bite. Their menu is diverse, vegetarian friendly and sophisticated yet unpretentious. The soup of the day options are just great and you can never go wrong with them. It is hard to find a single favorite, so you’ll need several visits to catchup with their ever-changing soup offering. Their veggie burger has chipotle and is one of the best I have ever had. Their goat cheese sandwich is a delight. Most importantly, the staff is friendly and welcoming.

I was on my way back to Boston from Beacon, NY, took a wrong turn and wound up in Red Hook, where I decided«what the hell — I’ll have lunch here.» Good move! I wandered into J & J’s Gourmet, which is on a perfectly normal street corner, and had the very best veggie burger I’ve ever had — it was called«South of Bard,» was Tex-Mex, quite spicy and delightful. I should note that I’ve had a lot of veggie burgers over the years. The coffee was also quite good, which is one of my acid tests for places to eat. Will definitely be stopping through again.

I was unhappy with this place because of a couple of bad experiences that I had over a year ago. I went back in recently, and they changed! Better service, the menu was changed up. Waiting times were shorter. Instead of the more boring sides that they had previously offered — they had quinoa on the side which was refreshing and nice to see and I believe I saw some other options there. You get smiles when you go into this place. Friendly vibe with plenty of seating. They had some nice daily specials posted in plain sight. It’s still on the pricey side for a lunch spot — but they use locally sourced food so you get what you pay for. I will be putting this back into my regular lunch rotation(I travel a lot). They clearly appreciate the feedback of their customers and make changes to please them. They should be commended for that. And at the end of the day, the food is good and you can’t get anything in Red Hook on this level.

I’ve eaten lunch at J&J twice so far in the past week, as I’ve been in town for the Bard Festival and grew weary of college-campus-fare. The grilled cheese with homemade preserves and arugula on crispy sourdough bread is out of this world. Their potato salad is just like Grandma used to make it.(At least, my grandma sure did.) I’ve also tried the Veggie Muffaletta sandwich, which did not knock my socks off as much as the grilled cheese, mainly because the white bean purée could use a touch more flavor. But it was still lovely, and the bread was hearty without losing it’s fluffy-ness. Their side salad is full of fresh, delicious vegetables and a balsamic vinaigrette that I liked so much, I dipped my sandwich(es) in it. The service was super-pleasant, and the wait for the food was short. I’d go here all the time if I actually lived in the area. Great place for a delicious sandwich with fresh, vibrant ingredients.

Quite possibly the best cup of coffee in Red Hook. And a very extensive, unique menu of sandwiches and salads. Everything is made fresh to order. I usually only come in here in the morning and get a breakfast sandwich, but I will try out some other things soon for sure.

If you want really good sandwiches or picnic fare, J and J gets my thumbs up. I had some great soup, and a delicious cuban sandwich. It does take a little while to get your order if you get an elaborate sandwich or if it is busy(and they do a brisk business). Other sandwiches and dishes got high marks from my fellow travelers.

Solid deli serving quality food. Some favorites include the roast beef and bleu(roast beef, bleu cheese, red onion, roasted pepper, herb mayo), the classic club(turkey, bacon, lettuce tomato and cranberry mayo), and the best reuben I’ve had anywhere(this includes the big NYC delis). Breakfast sandwiches are all good, the coffee is locally roasted, and they use local eggs and beef. The service can be a bit spotty unless you have Stacey taking care of you, in which case it’s always perfect. She is amazing, hard working and very eager to please.

LOOOOOVE this place. Stumbled across it during travel for work. Atmosphere is a higher scale coffee house. Couch, fireplace, plenty of seating. Wifi(free I think) available. Young girl clerk behind the counter was extremely friendly and helpful, offering her opinion without even being asked, which I always appreciate. If I lived in this area, I would essentially live in this place. Food: Got the veggie burger with kettle chips instead of the field greens. I think it was $ 8 and change. They make most stuff in-house, and use local ingredients when possible. I’m not a huge veggie-burger eater, but this was hands down the best one I’ve ever had! And oh my god the kettle chips. I think I’ll dream about them. Delicious. As far as I can tell, made when you order. Hot and yummy and fresh. I also got this thing that I saw behind the counter, some sort of banana, chocolate chip, whole grain scone thing. Very good as well. Dessert-y without being overly sweet. Also, I think I could feel myself getting healthier as I ate at J & J’s. Can’t wait to return.

YUM. =) My Classic Club sandwich was so big, I took half of it to go. This café is located on the corner of Market x Broadway. It’s quaint, warm, homey, and friendly. The have self-serve coffee, tea and ice water in the dining area. There are a couple of cold cases for other drinks and a few stands strewed here and there with gourmet chips, nuts and dried fruit. Their service was quick, the sandwich was as fresh as it could be with a nice sized stack of deli style meat and tasty bacon. The cran-mayo was a nice change as compared to plain mayo or mustard. I also had dill pickle chips with my sandwich. Those things are bad ass. I can die happy when I can buy those things back home. I also found CornPoppers here like they serve on Jet Blue. The Kettle flavor is addictive!

The food is fine at J&J’s, but they need lessons in customer service. This deli right at the center of Red Hook has sandwiches that aspire to be a cut above the typical deli fare at high prices to match. Unfortunately I can’t recommend J&J given the service lapses. Food almost always takes a LONG time to be delivered, but that’s not the problem here. Rather it’s the poor attitude of some of the counter staff. During my most recent visit the server missed fulfilling one of the items I ordered. No problem, I am a very understanding person, and a mistake is a perfect opportunity for a business to really demonstrate its customer service skills. Instead of saying, «Sorry, I must have missed that item,» and then filling the rest of the order, the server condescendingly said, «I read the order back to you.» I don’t need to eat somewhere the staff try to make the customers feel stupid. They need to learn that they are in a SERVICE business at J&J.

I tried J & J’s Gourmet for the first time for lunch a few months ago, and, even though it is a bit of a drive from my house, have been back many times since! The café has a relaxed atmosphere and delicious food(the Gravlox with Caper Butter and the Grilled Mozzarella and Spinach Panini are two of my favorites).
