I thought this place was ok. The location was just at the bottom of our hotel so we decided to eat here when we realized it was a place we didn’t have to brave the cold to get to. The specials and the whole menu sounded appetizing. I got the cornmeal crusted trout, which was on the salty side. The crust was crunchy but also kind of heavy for my taste. The fish was served with toasted veg, which were not memorable, but seemed fresh. A side salad was also served before the main course with a wonderful dressing made in house– prob the best part of the whole meal. Crusty bread with butter was also served and it was good. The part of the meal i did not like was the rice pilaf– and i like just about everything. I dont think the pilaf usually tastes this way and that i had a bad batch– pilaf is pretty hard to not like. It had a chemical taste to it that turned me off. The service was fine and there was a small selection of wine, however the menu could use more local brews. Really think this place has potential — it must have been an off night, as the other really great reviews really drew our attention this way. Better luck next time we are in town.

Having heard wonderful reviews of Brett’s Bistro, we were excited about our first meal at this restaurant that we’ve somehow missed over all the years we’ve been coming to Red River. Earlier today, knowing it was a busy weekend in town, we made a dinner reservation for 6:30 pm. Upon our arrival at 6:25 pm, however, we were assaulted by a harried waitress who accused us of showing up too late… Our reservation – and that of the other stunned couple standing with us on the landing near the front door, was at 6:00 pm, she said, and we were all no-shows. We, along with the other couple, insisted that we had made 6:30 reservations with the owner himself. She then left us, checked with the owner, and returned to announce that we, my husband and I, did indeed have a 6:30 reservation but the other couple – who again stated that they had made their reservation for 6:30, NOT6 – had been entered into the book for 6:00 pm and would therefore have to wait.(Mind you, this is a small restaurant and every single diner paying attention to the chaos at the front door was privy to these conversations.) Another waitress then showed me and my husband to the one available table… but the damage was already done. We decided not to spend our money at this restaurant based on the nasty greeting we received and got up from our table to leave. We saw the owner and politely informed him of the reason for our sudden departure, and he offered a «she was stressed» excuse, and then rudely exclaimed that he was not God… and«happy new year». What the hell does that mean? Unfortunately, every other restaurant in town is packed so we will not be eating dinner tonight. And we will certainly never return to Brett’s Bistro.

Had lunch at Brett’s and was not overly impressed but we went back for dinner and I’m glad we did. My husband had the trout and said it was the best he ever had. I had the prime rib medium rate and it was excellent. I did not care for the soup or the potatoes. They were good just not what I expected. Brett’s is one of more expensive restaurants in Red River but it is also a more elegant dining experience.

Great Dinner! Very reasonably priced for the meals we got. Prime Rib, Ribeye and the Rocky Mountain Trout were all amazing, perfectly cooked as ordered. We were extremely pleased with the food and service we got. I recommended it if your in Red River.

I just left my first visit to Brett’s and am happy to finally find a nicely decorated place to dine that has an upscale lunch menu — beyond just burgers and pizza. The halibut special and the trout looked good. I went for the catfish with pilaf and asparagus. I was not disappointed. It’s a bit more expensive than other lunch spots in RR, but it is worth it. It’s small and loud when crowded.

Not impressed. Wait staff was rude. $ 30 ribeye was overcooked. Do you think they cared? Nope! Pay full price anyway! They brought out literally one roll, the smallest salad I have ever seen, and 3 asparagus spears. What a rip off!

New to Red River, we were clueless where to have dinner. We decided on Brett’s Bistro-nothing fancy but quaint and nicely decorated. My daughter is a chef, and I have frankly stopped ordering steak in restaurants as they are always a disappointment compared to hers. I am so glad I took the risk! This was the best steak I have eaten in a restaurant in over a year. My husband’s salmon with beurre blanc was perfect. The servers were a little overwhelmed but kind and very attentive. If I were to have any less than positive comments it would be that my potatoes we’re not warm enough, the salads were a little small, and they could improve the wine list. Overall, a wonderful meal!

The best restaurant in Red River, no question. This is gourmet dining you will not find anywhere else unless you’re willing to make the drive to Taos. That said, quality comes at a price. Be forewarned. Also, this is a small place so be ready to wait if it’s a busy time. The beef here is top quality and cooked perfectly. If you like cracklings, get the cracklings appetizer, at $ 5 a large basket of freshly fried cracklings and rinds. Other things we tried and liked, chicken fried steak and for lunch the burgers. This place is fairly new and the staff are still working out their groove, give em a smile and figure what it takes to bring in good employees in this town. My only con is that the wine list needs a major redo and there’s no draft beer.

Note: this is the only Brett’s in town. Same fab chef. Excellent trout, lamb, and(from a Midwestern connoisseur) the BEST chicken fried steak ever!

Terribly disappointing. From the waitress to the food. Our waitress told us our wait would be 10 minutes to clean a table… seriously. The bread was horrible… wine list was ok. I had the bean soup… I think soup from a can tastes better! It was terrible. I ended up ordering the shrimp as my entrée — yes I paid $ 20 for about 7 shrimp. The taste was spicy which I appreciate but that’s it. Presentation was nice but come one, food was so disappointing. I felt so rush with the waitress… she seemed to be on speed or so. Anyway, I would discourage anyone from eating here.

Yum. Had trout and it was delicious. Huge portion too for a reasonable price which is impressive because Red River restaurants usually overcharge for everything! Wife had salmon that was also really tasty. Great spot.

One of the best restaurants in red river. Amazing customer service. The fettuccini with green chilis and vegetables was excellent. They also have homemade desserts.

I have heard that the food is great but I did not get to try it. My family walked in and after no one greeted us for 5 minutes we left.

We chose the trout special, the chopped elk steak and the Fettuccine del Fiesta, and all 3 were phenomenal! The trout was fresh and delicious with blue crab and mushrooms. The elk was coarsely ground and perfectly cooked to medium rare with a light sauce. The fettuccine was the perfect blend of creamy and bright with the flavors of green chili and sweet red pepper. Delicious and well priced wines were available to accompany all entrée’s too! You cannot go wrong at Brett’s!

This is hands down the best place to eat dinner in Red River, New Mexico. I was taking a spring break vacation with my boyfriend, who is family friends with the owner of Brett’s Bistro(brett). So, logically we stopped by. Food is absolutely mouthwatering, we both got the trout special. We also tried a wine and their wine selection is definitely great if you are a wine-o. Even the non-drinker bf liked the wine. I was stuffed when we were done and can’t wait to visit again soon so I can have the trout again. Will be back someday.

Disappointing. As soon as we were seated we got some bad vibes almost as if the staff didn’t want us there. *This was the dead week after the peak Spring Break season. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. The waitress had to come back and ask us to repeat our drink order. We received our Mushrooms appetizer with our drinks. Honestly it was solid. I would recommend the mushrooms. We then placed our dinner order. One of us ordered a 12 oz filet Medium and the other Chicken Fried Steak NO gravy along with our salad dressing choices. She then had to come back 10 minutes later and ask us again what dressings we wanted on our salads. Salads arrived and were fine. Basic salads. All good. Good then comes and the chicken fried steak was SMOTHERED in gravy and the steak was rare. They had also just sent another couple off claiming they had turned the grills off and were closed(at 7pm) so we decided not to mess with sending it back and eat it. It was obvious to us that the waitress did not want to be there. She wrote nothing down and acted put off. Ruined the entire meal. We will try it again. We have heard too many good things about Brett’s from friends and chalked it up as bad timing.

DELICIOUS! Everything I’ve ever had there was beautifully prepared and really good. The owner is really nice too. Prices are good for what you get and they have nightly specials. Hamburgers and fries are great. Last nights trout special was awesome good! When I come to Red River to ski, I always look forward to dining at Brett’s.

This is my go to spot for great food in Red River. I’ve tried most everything on the menu and I have not once been disappointed. If you see a gumbo special GETIT I have been making my own gumbo for years and I am a harsh critic of all gumbo that I try, this gumbo is far and away better then all that I have tried. The chicken fried steak is very good and so is the Shrimp Rio Grande.
