Great atmosphere, drinks were good, and staff was very friendly. However, the food was nothing to brag about. I ordered a ribeye and it looked like a $ 7 sirloin from the grocery store. It came out cold and was not seasoned well. When paying $ 30 for a steak I expect a lot better quality. Also ordered cheese sticks for an appetizer they cheese was hard and not melted all the way. I was very disappoint in this place and definitely would not go back. It had the prices of Mortons and the quality of Chillis.

It pains me greatly to give an establishment 3 stars on Unilocal. But that’s a generous 3 stars on this visit to Texas Reds. We arrived and there wasn’t a hostess for a few minutes. No big deal. We were seated in the dining area without menus. Still not a big deal. It was an excessive amount of time before our waitress came to our table. She brought menus and said she’s be back. No drink orders. She came back after an excessive amount of time to take our orders. Bottom line, the service was bad. Read my other reviews and it’s usually focused on the food. Let’s talk about the food. The salad was basically lettuce with little else. The bread was some kind of pretzel bread which had a fantastic taste. Filet mignon to die for. Okra — See filet mignon. Fries — lukewarm and soggy. Steak burger — Dry but the green chile was great. If the service was better, I would’ve given 4 stars. We had to keep asking other wait staff for assistance. From asking for condiments to drink refills. Disappointing.

This was our priciest meal in town but we’ll worth it. After having red meat all week, I ordered the turkey steak, which was surprisingly delicious! The hubby had the rib-eye and was very pleased as well! 2 Thumbs up for good food, friendly servers and great live music!

This place is a gem in the mountains of New Mexico. The owners and staff are always amazing, the food is excellent, and you’ll always hear some good music if you stick around in the Lost Love Saloon. A must stop on your NM travels.

Honestly one star was too many based on my families experience. I’m not one to complain especially while on a relaxing vacation in Red River but my family waited nearly an hour and a half after being seated to get our overpriced food. We ordered our drinks and appetizer and nearly an hour later received our dinner. 2 burgers and 2 salads for the kiddos. Over $ 100 for a burger that would have been better at Burger King. To say the least we were more than disappointed with our service and food and this will be the last time we visit this establishment.

Texas Red’s is a staple in Red River. Since rebuilding in RR, this place has been pretty good(better than the location in Angel Fire that they opened after the original Texas Red’s in RR burned down). The service was great. I had the elk burger, which was a huge slab of meat. Very filling! Pretzel break is delightful. I’m not big on the live music as it just makes it hard to have a conversation with your dinner companions. The steaks are a big pricey, but it’s Red River and your choices are limited. You certainly wouldn’t pay that much for an average steak in Amarillo, TX, but if you want a steak in RR, you’re going to have to pay for it. The burgers are reasonably priced. My husband had a pork chop, which was MASSIVE and perfectly cooked and seasoned. Again, the service was great. The waitress was very friendly and efficient. Worth a stop during your RR stay!

Disappointing. Small steak about the only part of dinner that was enjoyable. Live music was good. Too crowded for such bad food. Good place to hAve a drink maybe.

Great steaks. I’ve tried the filet, the ribeye and the NY Strip. They are all as good as any I’ve ever had. We ate there 3 times during our recent visit. By far the best food in Red River.

Hamburger was slightly under done. The green chili and cheese was good. The sweet potato fries, at an extra $ 3.50, did not taste fresh made. Typical beer selection, did not stand out as a Texas establishment. Service was prompt. We could have lived without peanuts and messy floors. Thanks for reading. The Bike Chaplain

Probably the best food we got in town. Their chili stew was great. Drinks were mediocre. I had the grilled chicken breast with sweet potato fries and it was good. Nothing spectacular but you are going out to eat in red river this is probably your best bet.

Always great — always reliable. In a town where almost all restaurants are intolerable Texas Reds takes the cake as the number one place to eat. They usually seem to only do dinner. Full bar goes great with an evening steak, and real live country music only adds to this great place.

A pure staple of Red River. Granted it was a little better in the old location that burned down a few years ago, this still has solid food for post skiing re-fueling. The steaks are cooked excellent, and the sides are plentiful as well as their pretzel bread. Not to mention the last couple years I’ve noticed the live music in the bar area is also really good too. Sweet Potato fries and the Sautéed Green Beans are very good. While being from Texas this isn’t the best steak house I’ve been to, it for sure sets the bar for a small ski town in the middle of New Mexico. Eat here.

This is always a great place to get an excellent steak in Red River. I do miss the location that they used to have in San Marcos, TX.

Another wonderful dinner @ Texas Reds last night. The staff is consistently friendly & it’s the«go to» place for us when we have guests in town. We had the prime rib & lamb, both cooked to perfection. The décor and peanut shells on the floor lend to a rustic charm but the real napkins & tablecloths remind you that you are in a quality steakhouse. After dinner, we went to the bar area and enjoyed the live music & a nice glass of wine. The Lost Love Saloon is a place where strangers invite you to join them at their table. We joined a gentleman who was there for the music & a drink and were later joined by a man & his young daughter who had finished their meal. Michael Martin Murphey stopped by our table and greeted us — he remembered my brother in law from a year ago. Always a wonderful experience!

One of the best steakhouse I have eaten at. I love the excellence and consistency knowing I ‘ll get not only superb food(I had the Ribeye) but wonderful service from one of the friendliest staff in town. You won’t go wrong with Texas Reds if you like a good steak and great atmosphere.

We ate here last night. The service was friendly and very good. The food is very expensive. It was adequate but not for the high price. I do like the house salad dressing, it’s delicious and different. What made it a great night in spite of the food was the live music! A guitarist and fiddle were playing and singing and it was excellent! Should probably even add a fourth star because of the music!

The restaurant is in a very nice picturesk town and the service and food were very good. The only complaint I had was I asked the waitress what she recommended for their preferred cut of beef. She said the prime rib. I ordered the prime rib based on her recommendation but they were actually out of prime rib. I had the buffalo rib-eye and it was awesome but I really wanted the prime rib.

We wen’t to Texas Red’s for dinner last night. We waited at the bar and got friendly service from the bar staff while listening to the house band play some soothing tunes. So far so good. Unfortunately that is where the good ended. The ‘serv-o-tron’ waitress had no personality and everything she spat out was very contrived and scripted. She was visibly irked when we requested to have time to eat the appetizers before starting the main course. The 4 appetizer sampler came out and we destroyed it. Everything tasted pretty good, but then again it is hard to mess up fried food. For a $ 285oz filet, you expect to get at least a decent plate presentation. This was not the case. The medium rare steak arrived cold with an old tasting and under cooked baked potato. There was also a round green pepper which rolled around on the plate like some sort of screwed up pinball game. In order to add some flavor to the potato they provided a packet of sour cream. Yes. You read that correctly. You will get fast food style condiments from a steakhouse. Talk about ambiance! My brother ordered a buffalo burger medium rare which arrived well done. Nothing like a buffalo jerky burger. All of the burgers arrived with 2 tiny raw onion slices, 2 pickles, 1 piece of romaine, and 1 very small pale colored tomato. On a somewhat positive note, my elk burger tasted fine, though doused in pepper. The bun was toasted nicely, so kudos to the chef for that. My mom told the waitress that it was super hot in there, and she responded with a chuckle and by saying«anything else I can get for yall»? Suffice to say I wouldn’t recommend eating at Texas Red’s. I’m not sure if it was the newspaper menus, checkered table cloths, loud patrons, overpriced and mediocre food, or weak service, but something caused me to write this review. P. S. We all woke up in the middle of the night with upset stomachs, not sure if it was related to the dining experience.
