Amtrak Station

It is 1:00AM and I have waited outside the train station for 4 hours. I was hoping to wait for my train inside but because Amtrak has decided to close the passenger lounge «due to vandalism», I’ve had to stand outside. Transients are loitering across the way making this area seem unsafe for elderly paying passengers awaiting the only southbound train that will hopefully arrive in 2 more hours. For their decision to close the comfort and safety of the lounge, I give Amtrak a huge brickbat!

A remodeled and relatively modern facility but with very limited hours of operation. This Amtrak station is literally in the middle of downtown Redding.
It was closed when I got here at 12:30am to catch my 2:20am train, the #11 Coast Starlight to L.A. it was quite and peaceful after the 140 mile drive to get here. There is a security person on duty during the early morning hours at this station. Which sits back off the road a bit and is located between Court and California streets on Yuba, downtown.
The parking lot for both short and long term is well lit, patrolled and there is plenty of parking. My vehicle was there for a week just fine.
A great little station that’s busy in the early morning hours, would have been nice if it was open.
