Does this place even open for dinner anymore? Every time we come we can’t tell where the entrance is, it looks shut down, and the place is surrounded by homeless people.

I don’t know what’s going on with this place. They’re supposed to be open, but we’ve stopped by during their«open» hours a few times now, and they’re always closed. We caught them open once maybe a year back, and the food was fantastic. Their sushi was so fresh and flavorful. The entrees were wonderful. Even dessert was delicious. I’d love to dine here again, but at this point I don’t even know if they’re still in business. If they are, I’m definitely grabbing a meal here. If I ever can. I will update my review if I ever figure out this mystery.

Excellent meal. Ask if you don’t see it on the menu, they are very accommodating an made shusi to order.

I don’t know if I’d visit during the daytime after witnessing the mayhem of the place being turned into a dance club after restaurant hours. I was a little sketched out following my friend, winding through an empty restaurant wondering if I was about to be punk’d… she leads me to the back room where it opens to a full bar, seating area, dance floor(that’s actually like an open floor plan dining room thing), and outdoor patio. That being said… way to go Redding! I had a lot of fun here over my Christmas break dancing like a fool. The DJ isn’t half bad! I’ll never understand having to pay cover for Redding stuff, but like a lemming… here we go. Be ready for over the top drunk girls and an eclectic mixture of NorCal kids. There was a fight one of the nights I was there, but it dissipated rather quickly given the promptness of the security guys.

Bleh. Foremost, the place smells of liquor and left over sweaty club smell. It’s obvious that the staff needs to take a lot more time cleaning up after their party nights, I’m dead positive the health board would not approve. Next, this may be the worst interior design job I’ve seen in a restaurant in 15 – 20 years. There appears to have been a beautiful wine room — now torn apart and sitting disheveled an empty. The food was the best part of the place but I won’t be back.

I will never come back. I had the New York steak and sushi and was sick all night and the next day. Can you say food poisoning:(. I made this Unilocal account just to warn everyone about this place

Absolutely, hands down, one of Redding’s best restaurants. Sushi is fresh and delicious. Entrees are beautifully created and taste fabulous. I’m happy knowing that my visits to Redding finally mean a quality experience when dining out.

Best sushi in town, everything is very fresh! Fuji Maguro, 1600, and A’s roll are a must try! And all of the staff is very welcoming!

Very Nice. The owners must have read the reviews. The service was great. The duck was perfect and moist. When it comes to taste, this is well above the other upper end restaurants in Redding(View 202). I am pleased that Redding has a new, very good restaurant.

The food was a pleasant surprise! The duck was moist and delicious. The sushi tasted fresh and the tuna poke appetizer was amazing. Great service too! Finally!!!

I will start by saying the food was very good. The service leaves a lot to be desired. I eat out a lot. Seems like a huge lack of experience in the wait staff and lack of menu knowledge. The servers should not be answering the house phone at the table mid order. Give that job to a hostess or bartender. It appears to be a case of very poor management and bad training of front of the house. This was some of the worst service I have ever had.

Poor service for lunch when our waitress had 2 other tables and mediocre sushi(several places in town are better) pretty much says it all. Sadly. Here’s an idea for those persons choosing to open restaurants in Redding: train your wait staff on the standards of service(how long it should take to greet new guests, the two bite check back, etc.) and hire waiters and waitresses that have some level of personality as it seems many restaurants in town, including this one are sorely lacking in both of these categories. There, enough of my soap box, I’m out…

We have been to O’Bliss twice and love it!(We’ve actually tried going 2 other times, but it was on Sundays when they were closed.) Finally, Redding has another sushi option! Here’s why I think they’re deserving of a 5 star rating: 1) The sushi was very fresh, and I think the most inexpensive prices in town. They have an over abundance of options for rolls, and if that’s not enough, they have a «make your own roll» option. This is very contrasting to other local sushi restaurants I’ve been to who get moody if I ask to change something in a roll. We LOVE the Alaska Roll by the way — it melts in your mouth! It’s an inside out roll with shrimp tempura, avocado and cucumber then drizzled with teriyaki sauce. For only $ 6! 2) They have genuine Japanese items on their menu that I haven’t seen at the other sushi restaurants in town — ie. the sauteed spinach appetizer, and the pickled cucumber salad. Heck, they’re even closed one day which is traditional Japanese style. 3) The service was GREAT. I’m not sure what others are talking about it not being good. We had the same waitress both times — Trisha. She remembered what we had previously ordered and what we had changed in our sushi rolls and then made suggestions based on our previous visit. She was quite friendly, brought our food in a timely manner and filled up our drinks as often as we needed(she, without asking, refilled my husband’s drink multiple times, which is always a big deal to him.) That’s good service. 4) Ambience — this place is so beautiful with it’s layout, décor and serenity. Maybe some of the other reviewers may not be used to a classy looking place and that’s why they’re complaining. But for the love, Redding needs some more classy restaurants. This is a perfect place for a romantic date, for hanging out with friends or family, and they even have a set up where you can have a large gathering. It’s perfect. I’m glad they’re bringing Redding a little more class. 5) Discounts — they’ve had flyers out that offer 20% coupons off your bill(I think through the end of August. But who knows, they may come out with more). And they offer $ 4 sushi rolls during happy hour. We haven’t tried the happy hour sushi rolls yet because we just heard about it — but we heard they are some of their more popular rolls so we’re looking forward to that. We love this place and would highly recommend it. It’s a hidden gem.

We gave it another shot. This time we had dinner, and this time we sat at the bar in order to avoid the claustrophobia-inducing dining area catacombs. The food was quite a bit better than our previous lunch — far better, in fact — but no upgrade on the three stars. Here’s why: 1. We tell the bartender we have an hour before we need to be at the Cascade for the Cake concert. Any problem? No problem, he says. We spend about five minutes looking over the menu and order three small dishes. The food comes out 40 minutes later, leaving us 10 minutes to scarf it down and settle up. 2. I want a bartender who knows what’s on the wine list, what’s on tap, and how to mix drinks other than Red Bull and vodka. When I order a whiskey sour, I want him to ask me if I prefer a particular bourbon. Jim Beam is fine as a well whiskey for mixed drinks, but I don’t want to see him pour from a bottle labeled, «Grandpa Buck’s Ol’-Fashioned Bowel-Sizzling Cheap-Ass Bourbon.» I don’t want to watch him mix my drink from a bottle of sickeningly sweet sour mix that’s been in a box at Boozehound Warehouse for the past six months. I want the sour mix made that day, or at least earlier that week, from fresh-squeezed lemons and bar sugar. It’s not that hard. 3. The other people at the bar include a SoCal-transplant retiree blowhard having a loud conversation with a Reverge Anselmo-worshiping Tea Party couple. One of the blowhard’s many loud opinions is that the flat screen should be tuned to the NFL preseason game instead of the Mike Ditka documentary that’s on. I half-heartedly agree, but blowhard is being a total penis-with-limbs about it, and the bartender has his back up and is obviously not going to oblige blowhard’s demand — not during our lifetimes. The barkeep keeps hissing, «I’ll get to it when I get a chance,» but it’s clear he had no intention of getting to it. Blowhard is an insufferable jackass, but the bartender’s job is to tend the bar area, keep glasses full, smooth out any problems, and make sure everyone is content. It’s not his job to engage in passive-aggressive pissing contests with old dudes who can’t hold their liquor. Sure, it’s not necessarily the restaurant’s fault that the other people at the bar are a blowhard retiree from SoCal and a pair of dim-witted, angry-at-the-world Tea Party Anselmo apologists, but that’s the crowd that O’Bliss is attracting on a Friday night. Good times!
