Would give zero stars if I could. After my frustrating experience, I asked to speak with a manager. I received an email from Michele shortly thereafter. I responded and explained the situation, that I was not appreciative of the cancellation(which I was never even informed about) after arranging childcare and taking personal time off of work. I received absolutely no response. Very disappointing!

I initially went to Mode as a matter of convenience and curiosity; it’s super close to where I live and, as a former MSFT contractor, I’d always wondered if it was any good. I have fine, curly hair that can get bulky at the bottom and frizzy, so I was given Ana as a recommendation. She does a fantastic job with curls, taking out bulk in all the right areas so that the curls twirl and lay on top of each other perfectly. I also wear my hair blown out with waves added in via curling iron or flat iron, and the cut looks amazing either way. The ends taper really nicely, and my hair feels light and smooth instead of heavy. Having such great results both naturally curly and heat styles is like having two haircuts in one. Ana also talks through what she’s doing if you engage her; the first visit she discussed technique as she cut, and the second visit she was explaining a few things to her assistant, which I found interesting, and taught me a better way of using a flat iron to add flips. I just got back from my second visit, and I think this stylist may be a keeper. It’s worth the visit to Microsoft and going through a layer of added security; I go around 6pm so I skip the busier hours. The haircut is $ 66, add in a tip and it’s not cheap, but can you really put a price on consistently great hair days? Ok yes you can, but this seems to be the going rate, if not a little better than some salons around(tell me if I’m wrong). Plus, did I mention, it really is a crazy good haircut.

The facials at Mode are the best I’ve ever had! Don’t waste your money on other places even if it’s a groupon or living social! Just come here! Christine is amazing. The facial treatment is just a part of the service… you also get a great upper body massage!

Updated: ½/2015 Thank you Mode for giving me a complementary cut for my previous no show. Ana did a great job, listened to exactly what I said and gave me a really amazing head massage. I think I will go back, thanks again for making it right.

Not sure where along the line I transitioned to Hillary at Mode, but she’s beyond amazing. Am I lucky to have a salon at my workplace? For sure! Am I thrilled with Hillary? For triple sure. Hillary is a gem … she knows what works for your face and hair type. She suggests things but doesn’t push. She tells you what products she used but it doesn’t feel like a pressure cooker to buy them when you get to the counter. Beyond the hair, she’s delightful … fun and informational and we laugh the entire time I’m there. Kudos to Mode for keeping like awesome people like Hillary on the Microsoft campus!

I’m so happy I groupon-ed this place! Tucked away in a historical building away from the bustle of downtown Seattle is this little gem of a shop. I was greeted by a very friendly desk receptionist-which I think is rare in Seattle-and the genuine treatment I received from then on was amazing! Kaci = phenomenal! She cut my hair exactly to the specifications I asked for which were vague: cut it all off, I want to be able to put some of it up away from my face, off my shoulders, add body and interest to the back. I was very impressed at how reasonable her everyday rates were too. I booked my next appointment and I actually DO intend to keep it,

Having recently moved from Philadelphia where I was absolutely enamored with my stylist, I was hesitant to get my hair cut when moving here. I have almost always had short, funky yet sophisticated hairstyles and feared either emerging from my newly chosen salon as an old lady, or worse, a hipster. All jokes aside, I had chosen this salon because it is organic(though most of their products are not – which is the only reason for the four star review) and the one in Seattle is known for cutting some good hairs. Living 45 minutes or so north of the city, I chose to go with the Redmond location because of its proximity. Before your very first appointment they send you an email that clearly and in much detail, explains how to get to the building, where to park, and where to go. I never had a problem and don’t find the procedure to be an inconvenience at all – I would much rather do this than have to find and pay for city parking. For fear of not being able to find a stylist quickly upon my arrival to Washington, I had begun to grow my hair into a short bob. When Brianna(only the best stylist ever besides my Jenni back in Philly) saw my hair, she immediately condemned it and decreed that we chop it and make it more fun and funky. So for a few months I had an angled, chunky and awesome bob. However, after seeing Jennifer Lawrence’s new hair, I had gotten the itch for short hair again. So, two appointments ago, she asked me what I wanted to do with my hair and I said, «We have two choices, keep growing it out, or CHOPITALLOFF!» And, she immediately opted for the short ‘do. I couldn’t be happier with my hair, her service, her demeanor, and her wonderful scalp massages! I will gladly drive the distance to have this wonderful lady style my hair the way she does. In a few weeks, I’ll be going back to add a cute little lilac streak to my bangs, and I can’t wait!

I recently had my haircut with Mary Jo and it was a great experience. I gave her a vague description of what I wanted, but she managed to understand what I wanted and give me a great cut! The salon is very well kept and using only organic products, which is always great. Will definitely return and recommend this service to friends.

To get to this salon, it is a bit tricky as a non-MS employee. You do have to register at the reception desk, which actually closes at 5pm, in the Mixer, and then ask someone to come escort you into the Submixer where the salon is actually located. Once you reach the destination and change into a nice smock and get your complimentary drink(tea/coffee/water), things become more normal and relaxing. My hairstylist was super cute and friendly Lindsay. She washed my hair, massaged my scalp(ahhhhhh…), gave me a nice haircut, and blow-dried my hair thoroughly. Ta-da! Now I look awesome. I did have a Groupon, which made the whole experience a lot more affordable and much sweeter. I do wonder if I’d pay the full price next time I need a haircut…

May 2013 I came here for a haircut this time and Natasha was awesome and I am really happy with the haircut. I have been looking for a nice place to get my hair done for a long time and looks like I found it. She was very understanding to what I needed and it’s great to find someone who listens to you for the type of haircut you need. I also opted for the 30 min facial — it was nice assuming 30 mins is not really a lot of time for a facial. Friendly people. The only problem I had was during scheduling an appointment. I sent them a couple of emails and also called them, but did not get a response for a week and a half — I hope this was a one time issue. Dec 2012 Great experience with the staff — very friendly. I came here for a manicure and pedicure and I was impressed with the service and awesome collection of OPI colors and products that were used.

UPDATE: +1 star(from 2 stars to 3) because the owner sincerely and professionally apologized. I LOVE owners who take feedback constructively as it’s a good indication they care about their customers. I still prefer the Seattle location by far, but I believe it’s the same owner and hope that she’ll be able to whip the Redmond location into shape and bring some of that Seattle magic to the east side. === As a NON-Microsoft patron… Overall should have been a 4 star review, buuuttttttttt… Ok haircut. Worth $ 50+? Not really. –1(Retail value of haircut: $ 30.) Perils of unlocking the gates and crossing the crocodile pits of the Mircrosoft campus? –1 Ok, I’m exaggerating, slightly. As a non-Microsoft patron, you may park in the roundabout in the blue visitor parking spots. Proceed into one of the shorter middle buildings whose name involves the word«Mixer.» Give the lady at the reception desk information about your car and she will call a Mode person to come out and escort you into Mode. No joke. A bit ridiculous and time consuming? You bet! I arrived 15 min early, only to be confused about parking and nervous at the«you will be towed if you don’t have the right permit» type signs and waited awkwardly for someone to pick me up from the Mixer room for another good 10 min. The haircut was ok. Best part was the mini scalp massage. I understand for a Salon you pay for the experience as well, but the experience wasn’t really great either. Not relaxing, actually pretty loud, and I didn’t feel like I was given proper time/attention. This makes me sad. No eloquent way to phrase that statement. I LOVEEEEDDD my haircut from Mode Seattle and having just moved to Kirkland, I thought I found a great substitute. Nope, I’d rather take public transportation to Seattle. *sobs*

I really like the service quality that I receive at Mode, I’ve been going there since it opened… but express cuts were all ~$ 25 when it opened and now some stylists are charging $ 44, that’s almost doubling their price in 2 – 3 years for their basic guy’s haircut with a shaver on the sides and scissors on top. I’ll probably start going other places that are more reasonably priced in the near future… which is unfortunate, because I do really like this place and its stylists, but I can’t justify paying $ 44 when it’s $ 25 for the same quality at Acme, Rudy’s, etc.

I go to Mode once a month to get a haircut and maintain my eyebrows. I’ve always left satisfied. The real star at the Mode salon at the Commons is Diana, the lady that does the waxing. Wow wow wow. She does a great job keeping my brows in check without going too far.(Which has happened to me at the Bellevue Pro Club, where I ended up with hooker eyebrows!!!). If you go between 1 – 4 pm they have a happy hour special for eyebrow waxing that is a terrific deal.

I’ve been going to MODE for a few years now for cuts and color. I’ve always been happy and when I’ve referred people they’ve come out with great style’s as well. What I love most– great stylists who remember your wants/issues. I find that they really listen to what I’m looking for and when I’m clueless they’re pretty good at coming up with a suggestion that works perfectly. The products are great too– less toxic than some other places I’ve been to. What I think they could do better– they aren’t a ‘full service’ spa, so I can’t get mani-pedi’s there and sometimes that’s a treat I’d like when I give myself a spa day. I’d also like to see them offer more affordable cuts for men. I still send the boyfriend to the less expensive place by our house since I can’t bear for him to pay my prices for his simple cut. One of my pals goes there for her brows and LOVES/RAVES/FREAKS OUT about how good their brow person is.

First time visit to Mode Salon in Redmond for the works; color, highlight and cut. Booked with Kim and am extremely pleased with the whole experience. Front desk people were great, hair artist, Kim, showed true interest in what I wanted as a final result and gave me color and cut that showed she had really listened-great customer concern and service. Will definitely rebook with Kim and Mode.

Unfortunately, this review is for the Redmond but I have had great success with the Salina at the Seattle location. At the Redmond location I had an unfortunate hair color experience. I’d consider my natural hair color very nice but wanted a change. We talked about red and I told her I wanted to go all the way or just highlight the blonde. She decided that a hybrid would be a good idea, I voiced concerns but eventually decided to that she knew what she was doing. I specifically noted that I hated orange shades. This was not the case my strawberry blonde had large orange streaks and the blonde was a very brassy mustard color. It was really awful! My colleague even commented«You need to get that fixed.» I told her I was concerned before leaving the salon and she offered for me to pay for a bang highlight. The next day I asked someone take care of me and they offered another stylist, I believe her name was Christina. I was happy they realized my concern and decided to take care of me. Christina used a color extractor and toner and although my hair is not back to normal(a little overly toned) it looks much better. I’ll see in a few months if I can re-highlight the blonde. They took care of the cost and demonstrated good customer service. I’ve never, ever has my hair colored where I need to get it corrected so this was a frightening experience!
