Nasty phone support staff. Also won’t ship to a PO Box.

This store doesn’t seem to get a lot of traffic and I often feel like I’m nearly the only customer in there when I’m shopping. They are definitely super pricey BUT I do like their items. Rarely have I been successful finding a great sale or discount deal here, though. We recently bought a bar stool here and it had the best quality from all the ones we looked at over multiple stores(even some furniture stores). It was pricey and we could have reduced the price if we had become a ‘member’ but I hate this big push so many stores are creating for memberships and opted to pay more $$ to NOT be a member. I have my eye on a few other items in this store and keep hoping to find them on sale. I’m beginning to think I may just have to bite the bullet and buy them at some point. Overall — typical Pier 1 store. but typically never busy. Easy to find parking. Expect to pay more $$ though.

So, I never really shop at Pier 1. I remember going here with my Mom when I was younger, but I always noticed that everything was super overpriced, even from a young age. Well, at my new place my boyfriend and I wanted Directors Chairs for the dining room. We thought it would be cute and fun, with lots of different colors. It turns out though, Pier 1 is the only place that sells Directors Chairs. I had got some at Lowes last year, but they don’t have them this year. We also checked Target, Fred Meyer, Home Depot. Nada. Well, I saw online that Pier 1 had them for $ 50 each, which is kinda steep, but still better deal than any other dining chairs we saw. The Website also said they had some in stock, so we headed over there. Turns out they don’t have any in stock. Ok, no biggie. What about at other stores? The associate started checking around and it looked like each store only had 1 – 2. I needed 4 and didn’t really want to have to go to 3 different stores to get chairs. So she tells me that they can order them for me and be there in a week. Ok, sounds awesome! Well, 10 days later. No phone call, and no chairs. So I call up the store, and they search for my chairs… turns out that they were never ordered AND they are on back order. So if I wanted them, they would take another 2 weeks. Why wasn’t I called and informed about this? Then I was told they did have some in stock. So I went over there again, and oh look, they don’t have any. I spoke to the manager and she told me that the girl who sold my chairs to be didn’t have the authority to order them for me and needed a manager. Well, since I am a customer, how am I suppose to know Pier 1’s ordering policies? Not my problem. Also, all orders take a minimum of 2 weeks, also not what I was told. I Needed the chairs ASAP. I was told I could get a discount on the chairs when they finally do come in, but I needed them like yesterday. The Manager calls around to other stores, and finally tracks down 4 directors chairs at the store in Lynnwood, which is on my boyfriends way home from work, so not totally inconvenient, but still a pain. Well then I had to return the chairs at that store, and purchase them from the Lynnwood store. Which doesn’t really make a lot of sense since it is all one company, and the money all goes to the same place in the end. I have worked for large retail stores like this before, all they really needed to do was a store transfer. Then I mentioned the discount again, and the manager said that was only possible if I got the chairs from them. So to recap… I waited 10 days for something that was never ordered, I have to go to another store to pick up my item(something I could have done 10 days ago) and I have to pay full-price for the inconvenience. Seriously Pier 1??? Seriously??? I never really liked this store before, and after this experience I can guarantee I will never shop here again. And to think, I almost bought a wine rack here too.

I really like Pier One overall, but I have to give one star due to the ridiculous shenanigans of one sad, little sales associate who has no idea how to deal with people or sell merchandise. Not to mention she shrieked at me. Literally. Look, all I wanted was to buy a chair, and as far as I know, a chair has one purpose in life — to be sat on. Sooooo, with logic on my side, I decided I would try to sit on said chair before buying it. Crazy, right? Then came the high, pitchy, shriek of «DON’T SITONTHAT!» Apparently one of the legs on the chair was installed a bit crooked, and she didn’t want me sitting on it because, «If you break it, it will be very hard for us to sell it to someone else.» So I suppose I’m also not allowed to test drive a car or lie down on a mattress before I buy it. Even after I told her I was going to purchase it, she was super snooty — probably mad that we ruined her display by buying the chair. When I asked for a 15% discount because of the wobbly leg, she acted as if I had spit in her face and huffed, «Ma’am, I’m not the manager so I can’t discuss that with you.» Well, it’s glaringly obvious why you aren’t the manager AND you’ve just lost yourself a customer. Too bad.

How long can a store location remain open when there never seem to be any shoppers in it? Granted, my visit a couple of weeks ago was on a mid-week evening, but there was no one else in the store except for myself and a couple of salespeople. It’s a good-sized store, wide enough aisles and lots of interesting items(as with all Pier One stores, if you like that sort of stuff… and I do). But it’s missing something… there has to be a reason that it’s so empty. Even the other review about this location noticed the same thing six months ago. In any case, it’s convenient but even I don’t need Pier One stuff every day, so who knows when I’ll be back?

Let me be positive and say that the location is great. The store was extremely tidy and clean. I’m very observant when it comes to store layouts and cleanness as I used to be a manager at Pier 1 about 13 years ago. No I’m not that old but they do hire young people. What can I say. I know how to manage things. :) Went into this store today looking for a full length mirror. If it’s one thing that I learned when I was in retail was that you listen to the customer. if you don’t have what they are looking for, then don’t make them feel like you ignored them and show them something totally unrelated but perhaps show them something similar and ask what they want it for, which room, purpose. Asking questions is a fabulous way of getting to know your customer. Seriously, it works. What doesn’t work is when walk in, the associate asks me if she can help me find anything and I ask for a black framed full length mirror and she«points» to where they are. Point? Are you serious? there were 4 associates in the store and not another customer. You can’t move your skinny ass and show me the damn mirror? So get this. I walk over there and there isn’t a full length mirror in sight. I’m walking out the store and she asks if I found everything alright. I replied«Yeah, I found the door to get out!»
