Corbin’s Redondo Bicycles

I was riding down Torrance Blvd on my SKU Fixi dodging all the suburban drivers who don’t give a two click-​F** about non-​vehicle riders until I popped both my tires hitting a too high a curb. Luckily I didn’t fall into the street, but rode onto the sidewalk with two flats. For F** sake cars stop riding in the «bike lane». It’s called a «BIKE LANE» for a reason. I was pretty bummed, Unilocaled the nearest bike shop, and proceeded to walk my lame-​a*** one mile to Corbins (nearest open bike shop to me).
I entered the store with a prompt greeting and got down business. I told them I needed some new tubing and tires. Today my bike was my only transportation and they told me they wouldn’t be able to repair the bike until 4pm. I had no choice, but to wait. So I walked to the beach and chilled until my bike was ready. California problems =T haha. Promptly at 4pm my bike was fixed and ready with new Thickslick tires and tubing. I rode home with no problem.
Pros:
1) Prompt with their repairs and quality workmanship
2) Convenient
3) Clean shop
4) Good friendly and very helpful workers
Cons:
1) Pricey. Thickslick tires online is about $ 30 (REI or Amazon), but they charged me $ 44. However, not knowing anything about bicycles their advice and help really saved me.
Recommendation:
I would go back for regular maintenance ($ 60 — $ 35) and repairs, but next time I will buy the tires online and ask them to put it on. They charge $ 10 for labor for each tire.

Awesome bike shop with a great selection of bikes ranging in price points & riders. It’s a father & son run business & both were excellent in helping me select the right bike & accessories I needed. We loved this place. It is not your typical corporate run bike shop here. There is a five generation love and heartbeat for all things with pedals that move family members through the landscape of the surrounding community. My daughter and I had set off to find out about bicycles and purchase one that met her needs for comfort and aesthetics. After investigating four other different bike shops in the area, we pulled into Corbin’s to find the best pricing, widest selection of accessories to immediately customize and make her bike uniquely her own, and a Father and son who patiently assisted in every way to get us the bike we wanted, the perfect car rack to transport it, and an open door to come back and help maintain our bike and address any issues we might have with it.

A very late review… I went to Corbins because I know it is a local family run business. Had in mind to buy 2 beach cruisers! They helped me right away and understood that I didn’t want to spend a lot of $$$. They fitted my new bike rack on my car and were very patient with me in showing me how to load the bikes safely. I even got baskets! A great experience! 6 months later I changed cars and had no idea how to fit the bike rack on my new car. I went in (with my rack) and asked if they would help me re-​fit to my new car… I offered to pay them and they refused to take it. I have referred friends to buy their bikes from Corbins! 2 great experiences! Thank you guys!

My husband and I just bought a couple of beach cruisers. The service was great. Dan helped us select the bikes and accessories. Then they assembled everything while we waited. We recommend Corbin’s!

Good, local bike shop. Fixed our bikes in 10 minutes. They are little pricy, but the convenience is there

I will never be back. I walked in the door with a smile on my face and approached the guy at the desk, with a «Hi, how are you?: He was barely able to begrudge a forced smile, and said nothing.
His expression was more like a smirk, dripping with judgement. I came in to ask about bicycle rentals, but suddenly felt like I might have been transported to some backcountry inhospitable place. This is your idea of customer service?
Seriously, a smile wouldn’t hurt. I’ll go elsewhere.

Proof is in the pudding — it is no surprise that this shop has been a South Bay staple for 30 some years. A bike is an investment and I was thankful for Dan’s extensive knowledge — from care tips to small details about the mechanics and build of my new Electra Townie!

This family owned business is the only place to buy a bike! Friendly, knowledgeable & competitively priced! We had so much fun buying our bikes! Highly recommend

Lucas, Dan and Kolt are all awesome! My girls, a friend and I stopped by to ride backs after a great luck. Also selection and a cute dog! Such a variety! Lots of baskets and bells! Not to mention it’s right off the beach and they are so close to the beach we were able to ride our bikes to the pier!

A couple weeks ago my son was hit on his bike riding to school — general note, people in the South Bay please slow down during morning commute — he had to walk on to school while I loaded his bikeinto the car. I took it to Corbins when they opened and the person there was VERY helpful. He helped me take it out of the car, he said he could provide an estimate. I noted we would want to replace it with a like bike (Trek) and while they did not carry Trek anymore he still put the estimate together (bike was totaled since fork, wheel and handlebar were bent) and loaded the bike back in my car too. We would have bought the bike there and then from him if he had the product we had but will return for other biking needs.

Have been coming here for years. I’ve bought new bikes, brought them in for service, and purchased multiple accessories and maintenance items here, and have had great experiences all around.
With accessories, Dan is very helpful, listens to your needs, and then recommends an appropriate item. Two recent experiences in that realm were a low rolling resistance tire and a new battery-​powered headlight; Dan set me up with great items for both of these purchases and they’ve been serving me well for 4 months now on almost daily rides. Compare this with REI where if you can find someone to help you, it is unlikely they know what they are talking about. Also Corbin’s has a huge selection of tire choices, something that I didn’t find at REI or another bike shop up the road on Aviation.
In the service realm, I brought my mountain bike in for a tuneup and they did a top notch job with a one day turnaround; this is the best the bike has shifted since it was new. On a separate visit they re-​spoked my front wheel to replace the shoddy Chinese spokes that kept breaking; Dan set it up with DT Swiss spokes (again, with a one day turnaround) and it has been bulletproof ever since.

Horrific service and attitude. I even bought a bike here two years ago. I wish I never have given them my business. The owner has such a poor attitude and a foul mouth around my young son. I will never do business with them again. South Bay Cycles is a much friendlier environment. God forbid you brush up against his plants either.

A++++++ These guys are great!!! I had an issue with my spokes one broken two bent. They hop to it and got me out the door as quick as possible. I will definitely recommend Corbins bike shop. «Thank you guys for getting me on the road!!!»

Been out for a few rides and the bikes work perfectly! Quality assembly services!!! A good bike doesn’t work so good when the assembly is not professionally done. I appreciate the great service from Corbin’s when I returned for additional accessories, service and advise! I pass this shop on my way home from work… I’m very happy I stopped in when I was shopping for bikes… Thanks again!

The first time I went to these guys to buy a bike, no problem. I live across the street so it was convenient. Bike was nice. Put together well. Gave me a 3 month guarantee which made me feel confident in my purchase. The problem came when I came back for a basket, seemed like I bugged them to install it. Then when I brought my brother in law they were plain rude. Asked if we could air the bike up and they just stared at us and said «isn’t that an air station over there?» Like we were going to walk on someone’s property and start using their equipment. We rented a toddler carriage or whatever it’s called and it was grungy and dirty but got the job done. My nephew loved it. These guys just aren’t pleasant and no matter what you’re buying they act like you’re a nuisance. Take a chance with them, but in the end the attitude will totally rub you the wrong way. Maybe you guys should work on customer service skills to up your Unilocal reviews. That’s if you even care. 3 stars for a great bike. 2 for service.

Listen to the other reviews and skip this place altogether. Horrible customer service. I bought a horn for my new bike, which I bought else where. I paid $ 20 for a bugle horn, which was waaay to pricey, but it was a special color and it matched my bike, so I splurged. But this was an Electra horn for a non-​Electra bike (which I mentioned to him). The horn didn’t fit properly and it either fell off while riding or it spun around my handle bars. Maybe the horn is a proprietary horn, and it only fits properly on an Electra, or it’s just a crap horn. I had seen a basket in there that I liked so I figured I can go in there and return the horn and get a basket instead. Well, the guy in there had a really crappy attitude about the whole thing. Really, he acted like a big baby about it. I’m sorry I had to return the horn, and I am aware that it was damaged (it fell off while riding), and I mentioned that I will be spending more money, but still he had a crap attitude. I thanked him for taking it back, again telling him that I’m spending more money, trying to reassure him. Oh, wait, I’m the customer, why am I reassuring him? So I grab the basket, and since I was in there a week before, I thought I remembered the price, and handed him my card. While he’s running my card, I told him I appreciated him taking the horn back and he says «Well, I can’t have you walking out of here all pissed off» while he himself was acting like a big baby. Oh, ok, so I’m not walking out «pissed off» but now I have to deal with your bad attitude? I’m in the customer service industry, and I own a business, some times you have to eat it… what did that horn cost you, $ 10? Suck it up, and act professional. Then I get my credit card receipt to sign, and the basket cost me another $ 16 on top of it… wait a minute, that basket cost $ 35? For a wire basket? I could have bought a nice wicker one for less than that! Waaay overpriced! Sprockets has it for cheaper, and Bikeology has it for even less. So don’t bother telling me that your prices are on par for stores around you, they’re not. On shear principle alone, I should take the basket back, but I’m not going to subject myself to that bad attitude again. I’m sorry I spent my money there.
Your bad attitude and unprofessionalism have lost you a customer.

I showed up, cash in hand, ready to buy. Owner opens the door (he’s there) and says wait 45 min until he opens at 11. I said I’m her now and ready to buy but he told me to come back. He gives me a Get-​Lost attitude. Wouldn’t get off his lazy b#tt to take my money. This guy is stupid and showed me he doesn’t care about customer service… or making money. I walked straight down the street and bought from Brian at Sprockets. Go to Sprockets! They’ll take care of you.

Didn’t know too much about bikes but wanted couple beach cruisers for my wife and I. They asked us what our budget was and helped us pick two that we liked. They also have an automatic 3 month warranty plan in case we have any issues. Good service and got a great deal!

Have bought several bikes from these dudes they know what they are doing. Good old local mom and pop spot… If u want glitz and glammor this ain’t the place but if u dig good deals from local dudes than Corbin’s is the ticket

The terrible service starts when you first walk in. Their attitudes seem to suggest that they don’t like each other, and they don’t like people. Well they’re stuck with each other but they’ll never see me again.
I paid for a major tune-​up on my beautiful Giant Avail.
The first ride I took after getting it back from these people: before I’d gone 10 miles a spoke broke on the back wheel.
I brought it in to them & they fixed it, charging me for parts & labor.
The very next ride I went out on, another spoke broke on the back wheel — 9 miles in.
I brought it back & pointed out that the major tune-​up included tightening of the spokes (THEY put that in writing), and that subsequently two spokes had broken almost immediately at two different times.
I asked that they replace the spoke, loosen the tension on all my spokes, & refund what I paid for the first spoke repair ($ 21).
The guy told me that my bike has cheap spokes.
Real class. They tighten my spokes, and suddenly my spokes are breaking, but it’s because of my cheap spokes.
I get my bike serviced regularly, so it’s had major tune-​ups before. I’ve never had a problem. And guess what? I will now have my bike serviced regularly ANYWHERE BUT THERE.
Bottom line: I wouldn’t buy a little bicycle bell from them.

Great service & friendly. We had a bunch of questions and they took the time to answer them all. We will be back.

My beach cruiser I haven’t rode in 9 years was making some horrible loud sounds like something’s about to break noise. I called corbins and they said they can look at it and if I leave it it will be ready the next day. Dropped it off tuesday evening and it was ready by 4pm the next day. They quoted me $ 20-​$ 60 depending if bearing have to be replaced. Nothing was broken, it only needed adjustments on the crank and chain. I was so happy and it was only $ 16! Bike rides like new! Also my man bought a beach cruiser there a couple months ago which he is very happy with. I will deffinetly be back and will recommend Corbins. They don’t have an Instagram page, but I gave them a shout out anyways. Thanks guys!

Go to Sprockets instead. Terrible experience and I’m never coming back.
My son had a link break in his chain so we made out way over to Corbin’s Redondo Bicycle. It almost felt like it was an inconvenience that we were there. We were sold the chain link but when my son asked to borrow the necessary tool to fix his bike, we were told that the tool was ‘fragile’ and that we couldn’t borrow it.
Our only option was to buy a new tool ($ 20) or buy a new chain ($ 54). We bought the new tool. After we purchased everything my son asked if he could put his bike up on the stand so it would be easier to fix… again, almost an inconvenience.
The gentleman who helped us basically said he was really busy and if we wanted better service to go to Sprockets. I will never go back to Corbins.

Honestly, this place is a mess. It’s falling apart, dirty, and there’s a yippy little dog in the front yard.
These people do not want to operate a business; and they lost mine.
I feel bad for Lucas, the son who actually seems to be somewhat friendly and care; his dad is the one who acts like you are inconveniencing his day, as if he’s obligated to be there.
They are pricey, I went down the street to the bike shop on Avenue F & PCH, trust me, go there. They are nicer, and they are faster. They did my bike tune up in 2 days, and charged me $ 10 less. Corbin’s said they can do it in 5 days, and they were pricier.
I hope these people look at these Unilocal reviews and straighten up, because they could be making a ton more money and better business!

Walk in today and passed some
Older guy in a Livestrong shirt who just brushed by me without saying a word. Grumpy look on his face. I grabbed the attention of the young guy behind the counter ‘Lucas’ and he took a bit to warm up but after shooting questions at him I finally got him talking. Nice guy but it felt like I was pushing HIM to sell ME a bike! In the end, I realized their prices were too high and left. Before I did, I asked for a card, It had the name ‘Don’ on it. Turns out the older guy who brushed by me was Lucas’ father and the owner of Corbins. He just gave me another blank stare when I looked at him. I was too uncomfortable to give them my money.
Maybe the owner has had a rough life, or maybe he’s just a dick. Maybe still, its just a front for another business that makes real money, so they don’t care about sales.
Either way, I hope these guys can get their act together. Pretty depressing for a family business.
Found the same bike 10 mins later for $ 40 less at Hermosa Cyclery.
I won’t be back.

I have no idea how this place stays in business. I have been in there on three different occasions (spread out over 2 years) and have left feeling frustrated every time. This is our local, small business shop and I wish I could use them for purchases and repairs/​service– but no way!

They are at least twice the cost of other area shops. And most importantly, they are rude! Every person I have dealt with here has been flat out nasty to me (and when talking about other bike shops), and I don’t trust them.
I won’t go back.
