Great place for good music and fun. However, if you’re a wine drinker, you will likely be disappointed by their selection.

Love the karaōke here. Good soundsystem. Nice stiff drinks. Fun place. Definitely check it out. I don’t know what it’s like during the week, but we went on a friday night.

Don’t miss out on this little dive! I’ve met so many nice people who are wonderful to be around. You’ll hear all kinds of stories and music, and don’t forget to come on Wednesdays. Bring your instrument and jam with a live band, or sing with them if you like! I love this place, and the bartenders make great Long Islands for only six bucks. Look out the window and enjoy the lovely view of the beach

This is Definitely the«WORST» place to go if you want to be treated like a «Human» or to be treated with any«CLASS» or «RESPECT»!! They have a bouncer named«Johnnie Ray» He’s the«WORST» Bouncer ever he also attempts to sing… with the WORST vocals I have EVER come across! a «NOTALENTWANNABE» for sure! He treats women horrible VERY disrespectful, he doesn’t do his job and he protects no one! word is he’s been fired from there 5 times for the mistreatment of the female patrons and female bartenders. but somehow the owner keeps hiring him back??? he’s been fired from other similar jobs for the same reason, I don’t know about you, but that speaks«VOLUMES»! The other Bouncers name is «Levy» he’s better than Johnnie he actually does something, but if your looking for him to «Watch your back» DON’T Rely on it! All the people of which I have mentioned show actions of «ONLY» caring about themselves and making $ «NOT» about their«PATRONS»! They are infested with Roaches one ran over my finger at the bar, and I moved and one almost crawled into my purse!!! The Bartenders are the«ONLY» good thing about this place! The Owner«Ed Castro» is a raging alcoholic and runs his business as such, has«NO» Respect for anyone, «NOT» even his self or his woman! I personally have witnessed such behavior! Cares«NOTHING» about his Patrons!!! They force you to purchase drinks within 5 min of seating because of there«2 drink min» and if you don’t… they make you pay for the water or throw you out! The place is Dirty an unkempt, they have decent music sometimes… It’s a 3rd rate bar, with a classless Owner that runs it! Give your $ to another place that respects your rights and treats you like a human being! As for me, I will NEVER set foot in that DISRESPECTFUL, DIRTY, DISGUSTING, GHETTOSHADY place again! This just in: Johnnie Ray’s the owner Ed Castro’s «NEPHEW» that explains everything!

Me and my gf headed to the pier and out of the blue decided that wanted to drink, so I’ve always heard live music coming from this place whenever we walk through there. So we walk up the stairs and noticed it was filled with an older crowd which was ok, because some of the ladies where nice and gave me compliments bc of the shirt I was wearing. Prices are reasonable considering you’re drinking at the pier… ohh we got lucky the band walked in after 30 minutes of chilling in there… they played a lot of ZZ Top type of music(which was effin awesome) other than that I’ll definitely come in again. I didn’t mind the older crowd.

On Friday 2÷28÷14 several friends met up here… a few of us were hungry so a friend brought in some food, as they don’t serve food here. There was no problem bringing in the food… but apparently the bouncer had an issue that we placed the empty bag and some wrappers at an empty table behind us. He first came and told us we have to throw the trash from behind us. My friend picked it up and placed it back on our table, but there wasn’t any room for it…(we had our food and drinks on the table.) So I put it back on the empty table. We temporarily placed it there, with the intentions of picking it up afterwards… or if the table was needed. When the bouncer saw that we hadn’t picked it up, he came marching back and angrily told me «we didn’t by this $hiiit here and deliberately threw to bags at my back. We told the staff and they said they spoke to him and that he would apologize for his actions. HENEVERAPOLOGIZED! For a man to get EXTREMELY worked up over this, is disturbing and shows he clearly has issues and shouldn’t be working with the public! Above and beyond this… for the STAFF management to allow their bouncer to actually GETAWAY with THROWING objects at a paying customer, A FEMALE… is APPALLING! His actions were that of a COWARD, especially that he did this towards a woman! One human to another! SAD!

This is a good spot if you are in the mood for some mid-week karaōke. We often start off at Tony’s, get a couple of Firechiefs to loosen up the creative juices, and then belt out a few tunes at Starboard before heading home. It does the job but don’t expect anything spectacular.

The place is a total dive bar for locals, a much older crowd. People almost look homeless here, but very friendly and nice… EXCEPT for the guy who claims to be the manager. Grey hair, sits in the back and looks like an old sailor. My friend and I came here to stop in for a quick visit and watch the band she used to sing with perform, before we went off to a Christmas party. It was around 7:30pm and I had just sat down when the«manager» asked if he could get me a drink. I said, «No, thanks, I don’t drink alcohol». His reply, «Well there is a 2 drink minimum and there’s no cover charge so go buy a soda!» What? First off, if there was a cover, the place would be empty. Seriously. It’s old and dirty. Secondly, I was there 4 minutes. So we buy hot waters(luke warm in a cup!) The bartender asks him how much to charge us and he says, «$ 3.75 each cup». She looks guilty and apologizes. He then says, «It’s two drinks per person!» Really, we heard you the first time. We buy the waters, leave them untouched, socialize for a few more minutes and then leave. He just made the whole experience uncomfortable by watching us and pressuring us to buy our next drink. Should have been a pleasant reunion but unfortunately it wasn’t. Not in that hostile environment. Note to owner. Change«management».

I’ve been here a couple of times and enjoyed the live music and decent prices. The bartenders were always good. The reason for the 1 star is that me and a friend stopped in there after being at Old Tony’s for a while last night. The band was good so we grabbed a beer and started enjoying the show. Then a gentleman came over and told us we couldn’t dance with the glasses in our hands. Well we weren’t even dancing, we were standing next to a table and maybe bobbing our heads to the music a little. Didn’t think twice about it. A couple of minutes later he comes back over and tells us we have to leave. WTF?! He claimed to be the owner and proceeded to physically grab me and push me out the door even though I wasn’t arguing with him, just asking why pretty much. Extremely unprofessional and not the way I would treat a paying customer, especially when there are plenty of other options in the Redondo/Hermosa area. I will NOT be going back there anytime soon, if ever. Doubt the guy was really the owner, but if he was he’s an idiot.

I still like this place… but after a recent experience I’m knocking off three stars. I checked out the hours on the menu and they said they were open until 1am on Sunday with all-night karaōke. The place started to pick up around 11pm — right as the bartender and karaōke DJ said it was last call. I didn’t get it being that they lost a significant amount of business [I’d say the place tripled in size about 20 minutes before they tried to close] and California last call is no later than 2am. To make matters more annoying, the DJ kept singing her own songs from 10 minutes until last call to close. Quite a few people had songs in. I found this ridiculously unprofessional and probably the worst way to get tips. I’m going to find a new karaōke joint in the South Bay…

My friends whom are musicians(Thanks Neil, Bill and Pete), all got together and threw me a Birthday jam session. I’m not a musician and I never sang with a band, but I do love me some music. This bar sits a top Charlie’s on Redondo Beach pier just before the hot dog on a stick place. Apparently, it has gone through some exterior renovations and I thought it looked nice enough. A narrow staircase leads you upstairs. It’s smallish for a place that offers live music. My friends tell me that the owner has also installed a new sound system.(It may have been called Charlie’s a long time ago, as I think my Mom called it that) A full bar, though not much on tap for this beer drinker(Better head to Naja’s if you like beer). I noticed they had Guinness in a can, but was mortified when she pulled an iced, one inch thick, over-sized mug and then wrang the can into it like she was doing the laundry. Expensive at $ 6.00 each, but it was the best they had to offer me. People I knew from high school and many new friends were there and after an unscheduled set from the house band, our friends graced the stage and tore it up with the Blues(My friend Bill Berry apparently lived in New Orleans for many years and played at jazz fest, who knew… he was always the crazy older brother of Allison who gave me a ride home from school once, in his beat up old VW, and introduced me to the Ramons). There were some regulars in there, whom now resemble bar flies as opposed to beach bums of days gone by. Our crowd filled the place and we reminisced between sets(it was SO loud), we danced and laughed. BUT…when our group of guys stopped playing, the joint cleared out and fast. There were only two or three people left. It’s hard to gage what the place is really like. They have the funniest ladies room, for a second I thought I was on an airplane it was so small. It actually felt smaller, but it was clean. I’ve been here before 10 years ago and I’m not sure how much I remember of it then, but I ill tell you this… My Dad was a rocket scientist by day and a jazz drummer at night and he played here many times and many many many years ago. I have a memory of me wearing a dark blue one piece swimsuit with yellow whales on it, I was about 7 years old). He brought me to the beach and said that he would be watching me from the windows as he pointed to this very same bar. During the day I could see him fine as he sipped on johnny walker and he and I exchanged waving to each other throughout the day. As I left that evening, I paused at the very same spot where my Dad sat watching me on that summer day and looked out onto the beach. On this day, I was exactly the same age he was all those years ago and celebrating my year in a place he to would come to Jam… surreal.

I know I’m not much of a drinker and I’m not really the bar scene type. But, after hanging out at the pier many times over the past year, I wanted to see what this place was about. I love karaōke and always see their sign lit up. My friends like to hang out at Naja’s for their beer selection. I often visit Quality Seafood(see my review). This pier is by far one of my favorite locations in LA and this bar has the advantage of having great views from their windows. I’m not sure that the word«New» is an appropriate adjective for this dive bar. There’s not much new about it. The place is old, the stairs going up were in terrible shape, and the décor looked like it was stuck in the past. I came in here late on a Saturday night with two friends. We were taking a stroll around the pier around midnight and decided to check this place out. Starboard? Idk? Maybe it’s the fact the bar kind of feels like it «floats» above the water and the rest of the pier. Or maybe it’s the lights they have around their building. Attitude? Yes! They sure have plenty of that! If the bar is literally above the water and the pier, they sure think they are above than their neighbors! When we walked in there was a bouncer at the door checking ID’s. We sat down at a small table near one window. There was a band playing and the place was pretty empty(especially for a Saturday night). There were maybe 10 people total in the place, some dancing, some sitting around watching the band. The scene was definitely an older/locals crowd. There were plenty of seats around the bar and by the stage. We had been sitting down for less than 15 minutes when the bouncer comes up to us and says, «The manager said if you guys aren’t going to buy a drink you have to leave.» Is that how you run a business? We were never even approached by a server or bartender to ask us if we would LIKEANYTHING! No subtle«How are you doing? Can I get you a drink?» Not so much as a, «I’m sorry but we have a drink minimum on nights we have entertainment.» I can’t believe this place has such high reviews. We might have purchased drinks if we hadn’t been treated so rudely. I will not be back, nor will my friends who live across the street!

This is my main hang out in Redondo Beach. The people are friendly, prices are good, the music is usually great .but most of all they absolutely have the best bartenders in L.A. hands down!

Came here for the first time a couple of weeks ago with my boyfriend to meet some friends and had a great time! Loved the karaōke and the ambiance. The people we also really nice and welcoming. Minus one star becuase it seemed a little dirty and the karaōke only went until 12 the night I went so that was kind of a bummer. But other than that it is an awesome bar! Will definitely go back soon!

It was our first time coming here and must say we like the place. We came on a friday night to watch the Flying Fish band perform. They were awesome and we hear that they’re pretty much a local favorite of the bar. This place is right at the pier so great location as well as great vibes. It’s an older crowd, but everyone still knows how to get down and have a blast. It’s a good place for some good live music!

Sunday… hanging out at the pier with a friend. We walk by and saw the karaōke sign and decided to go in. There were just a few people; they seemed to be the older locals. We stuck around long enough for my friend to sing 3 songs. I listened to a few of the people go up several times and some were very bad especially«Super Mario». What tripped me out the most was a old white girl dancing exactly like Elaine from Seinfeld. If you haven’t seen that episode. she’s having convulsions on the dance floor and has NO rhythm. She danced to every song! Anyway… if you just want to go sing and feel intimidated, this is the place. Hours: Mon — thurs @4pm Friday: @ 5pm Sat: @3pm Sun: @2pm They have karaōke most of the nights and open mic/or a band the other nights. Recommended for older people.

Fun place for my friends and I. Female bartender is wonderful. Inexpensive drinks. The place is way too hot. No circulation of air or a.c. I would recommend wearing something light and ladies maybe an updo or ponytail.
