Yesterday, I had probably the best seafood salad I have ever had at Tony’s on the Pier! Outstanding! It was loaded with fresh shrimp, crab and tuna with a nice light vinegarette dressing which did not detract from the fantastic flavors of the seafood! Rolls were warm and ice tea was refilled often! Love this place! Kudos to the owners, chef and wait staff for a wonderful lunch!

Don’t eat here, just go upstairs and have a a couple mediocre Mai Tais and enjoy the amazing view. Don’t expect upstairs to have a friendly staff. First time I went the bartender yelled at me and my dad for sitting at the bar and leaving a seat open on both sides of us. Not a hello, welcome or a what can I get you… but we get yelled at? We left… So if you plan to come just don’t be nice because they don’t care about you at all. I guess the owner doesn’t care bc he’s had the bar for like 60years. 3 stars is bc the view is so great on a sunny day!

When my wife suggested Tony’s on the Pier for dinner on Sunday, it was like an awakening. We used to love going to the new Tony’s until it closed years ago morphing into the odd Maison Rix. Thus we switched over to the Old Tony’s which fortunately kept all our old favorites. This kitschy place brings back so many old memories, and delicious ones at that. It’s like visiting an old friend with reasonably priced cocktails, good sourdough bread and butter, and when can you recall a restaurant that still serves both soup and salad? Good clam chowder with plenty of clams, a tasty salad with bay shrimp, chopped egg and a light creamy vinaigrette. The Oysters Rockefeller were okay. My sand dabs were perfectly prepared as was my wife’s halibut and the portions were very generous. I look forward to their linguine and clam sauce which hits the spot. With a very nice view on the pier, and the Polynesian ambience with very reasonable prices, this is a true South Bay landmark and great restaurant.

So disappointed. What started out as a pretty nice lunch went totally south when then told me as I was paying that they did not take discover(my visa # had been stolen). I have never had this experience anywhere else and I eat out often. It would have been one thing to not accept my card but they treated me like a was robbing the joint. They wouldn’t let me call someone from home for their card, wouldn’t let me go to the bank(I offered to leave them my phone and purse) and said they wouldn’t let me leave without paying, even after I tried all I could think of to pay the bill. Another patron paid my bill which was utterly embarrassing and just to be a snooty brat face one of the waitress tells me «U better take care of him»(novel idea, I didn’t plan on paying him back till she suggested it). WTF?! Back it up brat face, I don’t take ethics tips from someone of your caliber, especially after the way you treated me. IFYOUAREGOINGTOBERESTRICTIVEONYOURMETHODSOFPAYMENT, POSTITONTHEFREAKINGMENU. That said, the stuffed shrimp were tasty, the clam chowder was GROSS. Kincaid’s blows them out of the water in terms of the service and quality.

It was about 4 or 5pm on a Friday and decided to come here to see if we could get some HH and watch the sun set. We lucked out and got a seat facing the ocean, upstairs… BUT no HH. HH: M-TH We got mozzarella Marinara just to hold us over until we grabbed dinner somewhere else. She said it was Italian style which was a steak size piece of mozzarella, deep fried, smothered in marinana. Tastes just like how it sounds… Cheese with sauce. Nothing that blew my socks off I had 2 or 3 whiskey and ging. Pretty tasty. Nothing bad to say about it. My BF had Tony’s Mai tai. Didn’t get to try it because I was enjoying whiskey. I just know it has rum in it and I personally didn’t know it came with the souvenir cup but when they collect it off your table, they wash and put it aside in a bag. When you’re ready to check out, they’ll hand it back to you so now we have 3 glasses! Now that I think of it, we should’ve had one more to finish the set off!

Celebrated my 50th Birthday by driving over 90 min to my former special place. I’ve been coming her for 29 years! Today was sad because I knew I’d never return. I order the same meal every time; shrimp cocktail, double lobster tails with rice pilaf, salad and clam chowder. Rice was room temp, picked more brown pieces from salad that were trying to hide under the dressing than necessary for these prices, clam chowder; Campbell’s does it better. It had no flavor. It was not a busy day for them, we arrived at Noon, less than half the seat were filled. We ordered before two parties of 8 and 12. Our server Courtney apologized that our food wasn’t ready and for not spending any time with us because those parties kept her busy. The gentleman bussing the tables was on point and kept the table clear and waters filled. Our bill was $ 149.33 for the two of us! The bill is not the problem, but the lack of service is! My hubby, a restaurant manager was disappointed and commented how her peers didn’t step to help nor did the manager ‘touch’ the tables. Industry speak for checking in on the customers. My hubby tipped the man bussing the tables and begrudgingly allowed me to write in only a 10% tip. I wanted to only tip the guy but he wouldn’t do it. I spoke to the lady manager as we left and told her how disappointed we were, how she didn’t jump in to provide assistance to her Staff or the Customers and that after 29 years, I wouldn’t be returning. She apologized. I’ve had better food and much better service at Red Lobster.

I was very disappointed in this place. The décor is cute and cozy, and it is obviously great to be on the water! The service was just ok, she provided the bare minimum and in a rushed manner. The food was the biggest disappointment though. My halibut was chewy, the«fresh veggies» were reminiscent of a school lunch offering, the salad was just ok, and the chowder was fine. My wife’s scallops and shrimp were somehow both undercooked and chewy. They give you a ton of food(bread, soup, salad, and a side with your entre), which is obviously a way to justify their high prices, but I’d prefer a smaller dinner with actual good food! Oh and the house wine is horrendous, don’t even bother! Everything except the wine was very overpriced($ 29 for my bad halibut, I’ve had better and cheaper at Red Lobster for cripes sake!). I would definitely not recommend this place, unless you are just looking for cocktails in the upper bar area which looked kind of cute, but even then, I personally wouldn’t go back.

This 2÷20÷2016 I had a sad/bad experience at this bar. I had a date with a very dear friend of mine who is very fond of this place. I got there about half an hour before my friend showed up so I asked for a beer and some ceviche while I waited. When my friend arrived we asked for a couple of wine glasses and when we finished them we asked for another round. We didn’t drink very fast because we were very busy talking. Time flew by and when we wanted to order another round the waitress named Lisa or Liza told us she was not going to serve us anymore because she had closed four tickets already, no smiles and not a nice explanation at all. I didn’t get why she said that but due to her dry attitude I didn’t care, I just wanted to leave. Sometimes I speak my mind there and then but that night I was just willing to have a good time so I asked my friend to just go to another place but she decided to let the barman know what was going on. We both know about customer service because we also do what she does, only better: serve. However, we went downstairs and had a couple of more drinks. If she were willing to explain something to us all she had to do was go and talk to us. If we were totally wasted the other barman wouldn’t have served us another drink at all, would he? Well, Lisa will never know how splendid we can be, had we had a nice service. On the bright side, there was a guitar player who was amazing and other than the Lisa incident, we had a wonderful time.

I love my glasses from Tony’s, but I have to say the service has diminished to the point of boredom for the bartender and servers. Saturday night was a run by the numbers type of deal. No care, sad. The food at least will push this update a 3. The shrimp cocktail was fresh and sauce was great. The crab was also fresh and good. The legendary Fire Chief was too sweet and not worth the trip. Didn’t care to try other drinks, but the Chief is your rep! Make it great every time!!! I’ll use my glasses at home and remember the good days. As another famous Tony says… It’s Grrrrrreat!!! Not anymore sadly.

Update… Tony’s now has an A health grade. I am a certified«FSP»(Food Safety Professional) with the National Food Safety Register and any establishment that receives any letter grade below an A will never get my business. Customers deserve to eat at businesses where the owners and managers value customers health above making a buck. When you receive an A grade I will be back. Wretro out.

I come to So Cal once a year to visit in-laws. My visit always includes at least one meal at Tony’s. It’s not just the view… Not just the service… Not just the value… I’m addicted to the crab stuffed shrimp. OMG. Delicious! Comes with soup AND salad(get the house dressing and thank me later). The best $ 25 you can spend within a 50 mile radius. You will leave with leftovers so your enjoyment can be extended. All seriousness, my 5 stars are few and far in-between. Tony’s is more than worthy. Give it a shot if in the area and in the mood for seafood.

You can drive all up and down the California coast and be hard pressed to find a cooler spot than this. In a boardwalk shopping complex with a hippie vibe i.e., toe rings and rock shops, this tiki bar hasn’t changed since it opened in 1952. The bartender Sebastian has been there since 1979. You have amazing views of the ocean, especially at the 360 degree bar upstairs. When the weather is warm, they open all the windows. They have a fire pit, too. The prerequisite wall of photos tells you the Rat Pack partied here.

I really like this restaurant. I have been several times over the last few years and there is always a great and fun vibe and they are most definitely on point with customer service as soon as you walk in! If you are familiar with Three’s Company… the Regal Beagle where Jack and Larry always went to pick up girls… this restaurants’ bar area looks just like it! They haven’t changed anything and while most people today like the more updated, upscale look, Tony’s is iconic and I am glad that they have kept everything the same. The comfort is still there and most importantly, they seriously try to give you a table with an ocean view! The entire place is basically a patio. The glass«windows» are actually sliding doors that open all the way, so you get a fantastic breeze, spectacular views, and sometimes a pigeon or a sea gull with slide by to greet you. I would love to be there on a day like today, where it’s 95 degrees outside! The restaurant sits directly on the pier, but extends out in the water. I try to order different dishes and sometimes they will have specials based on what came in off the boat that day. For example, I have seen everything from shark to fresh lobsters on the menu! I’ve had the Charbroiled Combination Plate, which comes with a generous sampling of swordfish, salmon, shrimp, and scallops. You also get a side of mixed veggies and a baked potato. And as if that wasn’t enough, you also get a bowl of soup and salad with your dinner. I always order the clam chowder as my soup selection and it is so bomb! You can tell that it is made fresh in-house and that it’s some secret recipe, because it doesn’t taste like it comes from a can. I noticed that some other patrons didn’t like it, but it all depends on what you’re used to. For example, it is very different from Sizzler’s clam chowder; not as creamy and more potatoes and fresh clams, but I love both of them. Their bread and butter alone is a reason to come! The bread comes in fresh daily from La Brea Bakery and I love that they serve it with soft salted butter. I HATE going to restaurants and the butter is cold and hard or even worse, flavorless! If I’m going to eat bread and butter, I want all of the calories, dammit! Thank God, Tony’s happily gives it to me! The only dessert that I’ve had here was the chocolate mousse and it was divine! I am not a mousse kind of girl, but theirs is REALLY good! In all, this is nice laid back type of restaurant. You can dress up or dress down at any time of day and they also have a bar and live music playing upstairs on Friday nights and weekends. That’s a cool place to sit and have a drink, as well if you have to wait for a table or if you’re finished with dinner and aren’t ready to go home, yet.

Seafood for geriatrics. I think this place is more for ambiance and nostalgia. This is the type of place where a gal would meet her third husband. I wasn’t impressed by the bland flavor of our seafood for the price. I will say our waitress was amazing. She was an older lady and was very sweet. The host seemed put-off by our group of 9 people. We were seated when our 9th family member arrived and the host said«Well, I guess I don’t have a choice but to pull an extra chair since it’s no longer a party of 8». I will compliment the salmon chowder which was very delicious. Our drinks, the Fire Chief and Mai Tai drinks resembled Pixy Stix and cough syrup but you got to keep the Tony’s souvenir glass! To be honest the price exceeds my expectations for flavor and quality. You will pay for the nice view.

I hate when I have to give a restaurant a bad review based on the poor service that came from the waitstaff, but unfortunately Meghan, our waitress tonight, was pretty awful. The rest of the staff seemed to be awake, but she just couldn’t get it together. The meals came with soup. There were 4 adults and a small child that basically was sharing with her parents so 4 orders that Meghan needed to figure out. This should have been super simple because all meals come with soup and salads. We ordered sparking water for 2. She brought out a cup with lemon and lime only for 1. She didn’t take our food order because she said she was going to go back and get the 2nd cup. Duh! She returns to take our order with no cup. I have non idea what she did when she left us. We ordered an appetizer(never ever received it). Two people ordered clam chowder and two ordered salmon chowder, she returned with 3 clams. I ordered a salad with blue cheese on the side, I received something brown on the side. When I put the dressing near where she would have returned she thought nothing of asking why it was sitting there and not near me. Another person ordered a salad and it was completely wrong, whatever she did to correct it caused a $ 1 charge. She never asked how our food tasted(or I would have asked for the dressing and where the appetizer was). She continually served the men first. That is etiquette 101. Give the child her food, then the women, if it’s an older woman then she goes first. If I stumbled upon this restaurant again I would specify not to be served my Meghan. Three stars because the food was decent, they didn’t try to kick us out after we ate, the view is beautiful.
