Redondo Beach Historical Society

The Redondo Beach Historical Society organizes educational events to promote knowledge of the city’s history. Additionally, the society manages two historical homes, the Morrell Home and the Queen Ann Home, located at Heritage Court in Dominguez Park. Both homes are free to visit during restricted hours of operation on weekends. If one is really inquisitive, a walk-​through may take 30-​min. Otherwise, 15-​min is sufficient as there are only a few placards to read. Remember to stroll the grounds and check out the rose garden.
The society hosts a biennial home tour where half a dozen Redondo Beach home owners open their homes for tours. Tickets are sold through the society and affiliated non-​profits. The ticket, in booklet form, provides information and admission at each home. In each home, docents share antidotes about architecture and possessions.
We were glad to have visited half of the homes on the most recent biennial tour. These homes were skillfully and tastefully updated — this offered us interesting tidbits on renovation and building permit intricacies associated with historical preservation. We could have skipped some of the remaining homes.
The society also published a cookbook of comfort food with sprinklings of historical facts and photos.
