Very competent and knowledgeable physician. I brought my father to see him after he was having some stomach pain. From the first consultation, Dr Rengstorff was very kind and thorough. He took his time in explaining the process of a colonoscopy in combination with an endoscopy with general anesthesia and all of the instructions to follow this procedure. He made some very helpful recommendations and put both my father and I at ease with his calm demeanor.
I’m happy to report that it’s been 6 months since my father’s procedures and he is doing great! There was an infection discovered and he was prescribed a course of anti-​biotics that successfully took care of the infection. I highly recommend Dr. Rengstorff!

Having seen at least 8 GI doctors in bay area on various occasions, I want to say without any reservation that Dr. Rengstorff is the best I’ve ever had.
First, Dr. R is very thorough in his investigation. I had an upper endoscopy at PAMF in ’12 and requested my PAMF GI to perform another one in ’14 due to blood tumor marker elevation and lingering symptoms. Yet she saw no indication because my ’12 upper endoscopy only showed mild gastritis. Dr. R not only did both upper and lower GI scope (which actually revealed disease progression), but also referred me to another specialist for futher work-​up just to be thorough.
Second, Dr. R is an excellent communicator. He always responds to my online messages within 1 – 2 days. I remember one time when I was in severe abdominal pain, he not only replied my message online instantly but asked his staff to call my cell phone to make sure that I was actually going to be seen at the ED. I never had any problem reaching him when needed.
Third, Dr. R is a very caring person. Without going into details, I have a classically diagnosed medical problem with a clear treatment course, yet for various reasons, 6 other doctors have refused to prescribe treatment for me because all of them want me to see a new specialist for this problem. The specialist referrals take 3 – 4 weeks to process/​schedule a consultation, let alone the time it takes to start actual treatments. I messaged Dr. R about my problem (which is kind of severe and time-​sensitive) just to try my luck, not really hoping for much, but Dr. R replied my message and faxed in the prescription order right away. Within hours, I got nurse call from hospital with schedules set for a series of treatments. I cannot thank him enough for being there for me while my other doctors chicken out under the circumstances.
Finally, Dr. R is very organized and knowledgeable. He is very up-​to-​date on the research and technologies, and he won’t get defensive if you bring in an article questioning his point. He always sees me in his office (which not many doctors do), and his office in RWC has a really nice view.
I heard Dr. R’s name from Dr. John Madej (another great doctor!) years ago. I end my review quoting what he told me — «There are many good GIs around, but Dr. Rengstorff is EXCEPTIONAL. For complicated GI issues like yours, you need to be seen by him!»
