Hats off to the wonderful and truly gifted Dr. Roger Kao. Dr. Kao has helped me in so many ways I fear people all think I embellish, but I cannot say enough good about him (and great staff). A few years ago Dr. Kao worked tirelessly to help me with severe IBS syndrome and problems that kept me housebound often as it was so bad. We found a solution after many attempts and his patience and knowledge – plus he is a great diagnostician. Then I had problems with hernia I had for 8 years and well-​known surgeon botched repair, but Dr. Kao helped me with that. My bowel problems came back and he recognized it was a Rectal Prolapse and my primary care doctor and surgeon didn’t see it, but Dr. Kao found surgeon at Stanford for me and surgery was successful and saved me lots of problems to this day. Believe it or not, more to come: Hernia came back painfully and again it was Dr, Kao, and this not his specialty, who saw how bad hernia was swollen and painful – we/​he got a surgeon at Stanford same day and repair perfect – no problem. If Dr. Kao had ignored me or not been so concerned and thorough, I honestly could have had much worse problems. But, best of all, Dr. Kao truly saved my life when he got me on Solvaldi treatment for Hepatitis C I had for decades, but couldn’t tolerate treatment available until Solvaldi came on market in Jan., 2014. It wasn’t easy to get insurance to cover and known as $ 1,000 a day cure, but Dr. Kao worked tirelessly to get my insurance to allow me to get it after two denials. It was hard to get and without Dr. Kao, I could die of this fatal disease I got from tattoo in crazy 70’s days of mine. Hep C is fatal, so he truly saved my life and worked with me for 90 day treatment. I have severe anxiety disorder and not always easy to work with, and Solvaldi has physical and mental side effects. However, Dr. Kao and staff held my hand and bit their lips – I am cured and healthy. At 64 yrs. of age, I feel and look like a 30 year old and back to normal life, even better quality of life than I have had for years! Thank-​you Dr. Kao and staff for being so professional, compassionate and just plain saints in my book. His office is so warm and friendly and never a wait. He doesn’t overbook, as many doctors do, and spends time with patients, listens and researches. He is perfect doctor in my book, and my family and friends all know his name and my respect for him. He is the best. If you want a great doctor, or don’t feel as if your doctor doesn’t listens to or respects your knowledge of your own body, see Dr. Kao. He can cure anything or refer you to right doctor. He is my hero and best doctor on earth, as he seems to know about any medical problem or will help one find a solution. He isn’t about ego, but the Hippocratic oath in spades. He is also just a cool, nice person who is great at conversation and making patient feel at ease, and has good humor, but mostly just bright, well-​informed and not condescending or act like a god. He is human and great doctor – period. His staff are all so good to me and put up with my anxiety with similar compassion and humor. Dr Kao is a true doctor in every sense of the word.
