This restaurant carries lots of memory from the predecessor Tung Shing House. With its presence the authentic food and taste is brought back from the loss of TSH. Fillet of Sole with Rice Wine Sauce is our favorite. One of the best we have ever had including trips in Asia. And of course the Young Chow fried rice is the soul food choice.

I was so blown away by this Shanghai restaurant. Xihu Lake vinegar fish was bland and cold inside. The taste was so bad.

** In house dining review Long Story Short: Amazing all around, best I have ever had Longer Version Food: Everything about the food was amazing. My party got Pork Ribs Peking Style, Aromatic Roast Beef, Dumplings, Sweet and Sour Fish, and Lobster Cantonese. We drank Chinese beer… everything was incredible. The dumplings are the best I’ve ever had. Service: Impeccable, any and every need was taken care of Ambiance: lacking in décor and music, not very comforting, but still a great place Price: Fair, nothing to expensive but not extremely cheap either For comfort Chinese food, like when its rainy and crappy out, I order in from Great Wall. But when I want Chinese cuisine, I always order in/eat from here!

This is my family’s go-to spot to impress someone with Peking Duck. They won’t cheat you here, you will always get the whole duck. Huh? Whole duck? Some shadier(but still delicious and legit peking duck places) will cheat you out of ¼ to 1⁄3 of your duck. Stay with me here, you get 2⁄3 of the duck you paid for along with 2 other patrons, now the restaurant has collected(1÷3+1÷3+1÷3) = a «whole» duck and sell it to patron #4, thus saving themselves a duck. This is a very popular thing to do. In order to avoid this, you may request the duck be sliced in front of you. Those who refuse to do so fall into the shady category. Mr Tongs can then take the leftover bones of your duck and make a DELICIOUS stew. Just about all the dishes here are great. I LOVE the freebie snack, they marinate chayote in this spicy oil, yum! Give it a try, you won’t regret it!

Alright guess what mr tonge really has a tongue. I ordered on Unilocal and when the delivery came there was a problem with the order, I called him and instead of being nice with his customers he took the highway, I was very calm but when I said Im not gonna pay for his mistake he said: «Fuck You» I hung up and returned the food untouched to the delivery guy, he called me two more times and said the same thing again!

So, SO good! Every time I visit NY I come back here because I NEED my Peking duck. Best Peking duck ever! Also salt and pepper eggplant, candied shiitake mushrooms that taste like meat! Basil chicken, hot and sour soup… literally everything is good! The wait staff is friendly and pleasant :)

Worst service ever. I’ve ordered the pepper steak large dish several times and on many occasions the steak sauce was completely poured in the bag and there was nothing they did about it. Today I ordered this same dish in large and had only 4 pieces of steak in it. I called to complain and the manager hung up on me. That’s very rude and they surely do not deserve my business. A lot of other restaurants serve pepper steak.

We came to this place to have New Year’s lunch with my girlfriend’s best friend during my last stay in New York. Being from LA, this place reminded me of the Fairfax District — heavily Jewish. Which is not a negative remark for you chosen people, it is an observation. Tucked into this little enclave is a Chinese restaurant that has been here for decades as I was told. I told my girlfriend that I had a fever for some good Peking duck and that no amount of cowbells could cure it. So her friend suggested that we meet here and off we went. This place is kind of small and has a small family owned Chinese restaurant feel. Seems that all the patrons in this place were having a good time and seemed very comfy with the wait staff and the owner. Good sign. It was a good mix of mainly Chinese but also other ethnicities. So we ordered the duck, a fried fish in a sweet and sour sauce, as well as some kind of soup. The soup was a little bland, but had some great veggies in it. I love veggie soup. As far as the fish goes, the sauce was a little sweet, but the fish quality and how they prepared it was excellent. Wasn’t overcooked, so meat was still moist and delicious. The highlight was of course the duck. They served it with scallions, hoisin sauce, and thin flat sheets of what I believe was flour paper. Or maybe it was rice paper. Anyways, tasted like a thin tortilla. My confusion was that at least on the west coast, you get those spongy, dense but soft buns that look like a clam(notice I didn’t go there, you dirty birdy). In short, the duck was the highlight of the meal and I’d just go back for that dish only. Parking is typical New York: abysmal. I better start getting used to it.

We had the food to be delivered. The delivery man was upset because we tipped him $ 3(food was $ 37!) and he was rude about it. The food was good, though.

ordered food from here few times… their double cooked pork is pretty good… it does say its spicy in their menu but its not really… just make sure you ask them to make it spicier. The shredded beef was eeeh… not that great/not that bad The lunch special price is pretty decent. ill probably order again from here again… just the pork though!

Never thought this tiny little Resturant would be the closest thing to being in China. The good is amazing. If your in this neighborhood stop by and check it out.

Solid Chinese food. This is our go to place for delivery. Have not been inside. No complaints but nothing too extraordinary. Decent stuff.

I really like the sautéed rice cakes. The portion was about 1⁄3 bigger than the last time I had it here. I also had the cold jelly fish which was really salty and pricey for a small dish. We also had the scallion pancakes which was very greasy and fried dumplings that seem to come in assorted sizes. It’s an okay shanghai restaurant, mainly I come for the rice cake. The above mentioned meal came to $ 33 w. Tip.

I’ve been to Mr. Tongs a handful of times. I’ve walked on by for a few years, but started going in last December. I’ve gotten take out, and I sat in a few times. The service is friendly, and efficient. They serve hot tea and soup noodles. I did see that they had pickled pickles, but not every table got them. I’m not sure, if you have to request them, or if the restaurant only gives them out to certain customers. But, the hot tea is free of charge. It’s a nice touch, I know back in the day, hot tea was always free, but nowadays, I notice most restaurants charge for it. I ordered hot and sour soup, scallion pancakes, tofu and bokchoy, fried rice, vegetable dumplings. I liked everything I ordered. The hot and sour soup, had a thick broth. The waiter said, it was a vegetarian friendly broth. I’m not sure that it is, but it was good. I love scallion pancakes, but I do not see them on menus too often. Maybe 2 out of 10. Mr. Tongs, serves them light and crispy, just ow I like it. The bok choy, and the fried rice was great too. Their fried rice is some of the best, I’ve had recently. You know the cliché when people say, you can tell if a Chinese restaurant is good, if there are chinese people eating in the restaurant? Well, I don’t really like that cliché, but I did notice alot of Chinese families in Mr.Tongs. Maybe it is better stated if the saying goes like this, you can tell how authentic a Chinese restaurant is, by how many Chinese peopel eat in the restaurant. I feel the menu at Mr. Tongs is more authentic then the other chinese restaurant by me.

I’ve walked by Mr. Tongs for years and never paid it any mind since I already have my go to spot for chinese closer to home. I checked out this spot due to all the great reviews on Unilocal.I ordered the sweet and sour combination that came with an egg roll and roast pork fried rice. The rice was slamming and I was very impressed. The chicken was just okay and the small egg roll was tasty. I ordered take out and I will definitely return to check out other items on the menu.

Has chinese food really been reduced to this in Queens??? «/ Apparently a lot of people like Mr. Tongs but we found it to be pretty bad. — The fried noodles vegetarian was flavorless — The chicken fried rice was pretty decent after adding a lot of soy sauce, red peppers, garlic powder and other flavorings to help it out(it was like I had to season it for them), there was also an odd smoky flavor to their chicken fried rice which is pretty uncommon. After I spent 20 minutes fixing the dish… it tasted«okay» — The sesame chicken was yuk… and weird texture too. Honestly, I can’t believe anyone enjoyed the food here. Another disappointment, we won’t be ordering here again.

Mr. Tong’s is a Chinese restaurant in Rego Park that has some pretty respectable food. The restaurant is fairly long with tables that fit 4 people dominating the dining room. There are 2 large tables towards the back that can fit a larger group of people, as well as, a few small tables for 1 or 2 people. Being that I was the first one to make an appearance during lunch, the waiter let me sit at any table, within reason. I promptly made myself comfortable in a table that could fit four, with my bags and packages, this was a comfortable set-up for me. They even have hooks on the wall next to each table so patrons can hang up their coats. Really clever! I had the lunch special of sesame chicken, choice of rice — white or brown, and either choice of soup or a glass of soda. I chose the brown rice and ginger ale. The waiter comes back with a pot of tea and a small plate of pickles in some chili sauce. The pickles were crispy and the chilies and vinegar ratio was perfect. It was spicy, sweet and sour. I was guessing the pickles were some type of squash, but couldn’t pinpoint it. When the waiter came back, I asked him and he told me it was chayote. I guess I was right about the pickle being from the squash family, but this one really took me by surprise. This was definitely a good way to whet the appetite. The sesame chicken came on its own plate and the brown rice in a bowl. White sesame seeds were sprinkled on top. The pieces were generous in size and dark meat chicken chunks nicely encrusted with a fried coating. There were 2 dried chilies in the sauce, but I couldn’t’ taste any heat. The menu specifies that this is a spicy dish, but it wasn’t. If you want it spicy, make sure you tell the waiter when you order. For me, the meal was just fine. I really wasn’t looking for a spicy sesame chicken, so it worked out for me. I paid $ 8.00 tax and tip and this meal was enjoyable and well worth it. Mr. Tong’s has lunch specials every day except on Holidays. So you can come on the weekend, and still get the lunch prices. A good, affordable meal is truly not hard to find here.
