Awesome and underrated place if you ask me. I’ve always had a great time with my friends kicking it at 5 Star. Staff are great, music is good, and drinks are reasonably priced. At times there can be some lousy folk in the bar, I would say this is more likely during the iconic Reno Beer Crawls when you get a non-typical crowd that finds the saloon as their«end-up» while being overly intoxicated. Overall I would give them 5 stars if I could, however I can’t help but feel that the bar could use a little update on the presentation after being in business all these years. If you haven’t been, don’t be shy, check it out and you wont regret it. Oh ya, and have an open mind to the normal crowd ;) Everyone’s equal when it all boils down.

The bar was dead empty but that is kimda to be expected on a monday night so we stayed to see what it was all about. The bartender really didn’t greet us and was boderline undfriemdly in his demeanor. We ordered 2 bloody marys he gave us options which was nice but how he asked us what we wanted kinda made us feel dumb and like he really didn’t seem confident. We stayed and played pool but only had 2 quarters. We attempted to get 2 more quarters with other change but they apparently do not accept change except quarters(which legally they can’t refuse any form of cash payment) so another customer helped us out. We used our bogo for our semi decent bloody marys but will not be back.

They have put some money into 5 star recently with the entrance. There is usually a cover of $ 5 sometimes $ 10 after ten I believe. You can get there early and not pay a cover though. They usually have drink specials going at different times. Pool in the back and dancing in the front. Two bars and a dj on the weekends. They do karaōke during the week. You can expect them to start getting busy around 11⁄12 on the weekend. It’s a good spot to dance. It’s not nice to be able to go to a LGBTQ friendly establishment. It is a smoking establishment. They sell smokes in a vending machine. There are two single ladies rooms and one men’s in the back. The line can get long on the weekend for the ladies! Sometimes they bring in drag queens and various performers on the weekends which is fun. Sometimes you’ll find male go go dancers on a small stage box getting down, other times they’ll be walking around serving penis shots.

This place has some of the best ownership and staff in town. Constantly taking feedback from customers and improving. They always have some kind of specials running. Try the snack bar! Hands down the best food you will ever get in a drinking Establishment. They are open super late!

I don’t mind coming here. I’m not really huge into dancing, but I have friends who love to dance and this is a great place to go to dance and have a good time without really getting bothered by people who just want to hook up. I like the environment of the bar, it gives off a fun and chill vibe. I don’t mind hanging out there and having a good time which I generally do. I just get frustrated by the service. The DJ’s are awesome and play some great mixes. I am the type of person who likes to chill at the bar with a drink in hand which you are able to do here, but I am not sure if it is something about me or what but I have a hard time getting any bartenders’ attention at this place every time I come. A bartender will go down the line to the person next to me and then back to the other end of the bar. They will acknowledge people who have just barely walked up but I tend to get ignored, I wonder if it helps to know the bartender? I was there the other night and waited for 10 or so minutes(but felt like more) before I was able to get my first(and only) drink and in all honesty she didn’t take the order from me, she noticed my friend come up to the bar and went straight to her completely ignoring me and that’s how I got my drink. I tried to pay, and she didn’t even look my way, it took a few before she realized I was handing her a card.. I would have ordered more but I’d rather not sit and wait 10 minutes at a bar for drink when I could be having fun. Apparently, I am just not any of the bartenders’ type… The only reason they get a 3 out of 5 is because of that. It is a bar and I expect to be able to drink. It’s one thing if they are so slammed that they are slow getting to people in general, but when they are taking care of the front line fairly quickly and they keep just breezing by you… that’s frustrating. If I was there just to dance and not care about drinking they would get a 4 rating from me. Please don’t let my 3 stars discourage you from going here though. It is definitely a fun bar, great place to get down and dance and have a great time.

5 Star is hands down one of my favorite bars to go to in Reno. The atmosphere, the people, the music, everything about it is a good time. Shoutout to Brandon and to the whole crew that makes this place possible. Much love!

I love 5 star because of the people, the dancing, the drinks and because they participate in the Wine Walk during the summer. It’s a really fun time that should definitely be checked out if you’re in Reno. I am only rating a 3 out of 5 because there are times where it’s just way too hot and it’s questionable whether the air is on. Mainly though, the music is hit or miss. There are nights where the DJ changes or is just playing some bizarre stuff.

This is one of those bars you only head to after you’ve already been drinking. It’s a little trashy, it’s always loud, and I always find it hard to get the attention of a bartender.

A staple to Reno as the oldest gay bar in town, but fear not straight party goers 5 Star is a great time lots of straight people go there full bar excellent music provided by local DJ talent great night spot late night or a starter.

This bar is good for getting wasted and people watching late at night when the other bars are closed, but other than that, everything else about it sucks. I guess you can’t blame the bar itself for Reno’s obnoxious, exclusive, and oppressive lgbt scene, but it certainly doesn’t do anything to help when groups of gay guys are harassing you. Also, steer clear if you are trans, or not into dealing with transphobic slurs & disrespect. This bar has potential to be a fun safe space. In reality though, they just want to profit off of the lgbt community.

This bar or saloon is fairly large and dimly lit, which adds to the ambiance and makes this place fun. It has cages and poles for those who really want to make a scene and have a good time.

It is the nicest, most inviting, and most affordable gay bar in Reno. They recently did a renovation so it looks more like a nightclub. The cover is only $ 5 on weekends, which is WAY less than the other gay club in town. Plus, the drinks are way cheaper than most places in downtown. Aside from money, it’s such a comfortable environment. It’s like the gay version of Cheers. Everyone knows your name!

The bartenders pour well, and the atmosphere is fun. Music is a little loud but c’mon — it has cages and poles for dancing! The cosmos are A+

Went here on a recommendation from a friend while in Reno. The place is in a good location but could use some serious cleaning. The chairs are broken down, bad lighting, smelled of stale beer and vomit. The crowd is very diverse and the dance floor was packed. The DJ seems to have the only good equipment in the place. The bartender never smiled and behind the bar was filthy also. Considering that this is where all the locals tell you to go, I would think they could do some renovations and make it a bit nicer.

Not my style of bar at all. First its a gay bar which wouldn’t normally turn me off but the lighting was super dark and the seats around the cage were nasty looking. I don’t even know wbat happens there! A great place to get a one of a kind wine walk glass.

The 5 Star is my favorite bar in town. Whenever I’m out on the Santa Crawl, Wine Walk, etc, we always seem to end up here. It just a nice relaxed place where everyone can feel comfortable, whether me as straight girl, my bi girlfriends, crossdressing guyfriends, straight boyfriends, or my transgender pals. It’s not crowded most of the time, only on Saturday nights or when there’s a bar crawl or something going on. Being Reno has so many artist types, they’ve been spotlighting art in different themes each month, so there’s always something new to check out, my fave was the cupcake paintings, but the fetish stuff was pretty cool. There’s a front area with a stage, two stripper poles(that get a lot of use some nights), and room for dancing. The area narrows for the bar(there’s a cage across from the bar that’s fun to dance in) then opens up again in the back where there’s a pool table, the bathrooms, and a nice little secondary bar called the backdoor service bar(only open at certain times). It has a nice location too, right along the riverwalk so it’s easy to take a stroll along the river then pop in for a drink – or few ;-) The bartenders and security are all awesome. It’s super fun to just sit and chat, sipping whatever concoction they’ve made up. The 5 Star just seems to have it all, a cool place to hang out during the day and a hopping place on the weekend.
