Casa Del Pan La Fama is a Mexican bakery and restaurant with some items of interest to Reno foodies. It opened on Wells Avenue near the fairgrounds in what used to be the Manantial restaurant. It sells baked good and some food items. Today, for instance, I got two tamales, a beef and a chicken. The tamales were good but the green salsa was awesome. It was so good that after I finished my tamales I put the lid back on the small cup with the salsa and put it in my refrigerator to save it. This is salsa I would buy by the quart if they sell it. I will ask on a future trip. A friend who first wrote about the place says they also do sandwiches and tacos. I haven’t tried them yet. They are primarily a bakery and I like the quality of their baked goods. They offer rolls called bolillos four for a dollar. These are huge, D-cup sized bolillos. They taste good and they’re a good value. Cookies I got today were also excellent. Maybe the only complaint I’ve had out of all of their baked goods that I’ve tried is that a Napoleon didn’t have the soft, flakey crust I like. It was more dense. It opened about a month ago. Facilities are a little Spartan inside. But the quality is good. There’s still a sign on the front saying the property is for sale or lease. I’m not sure what to make of that.
