The tacos here are great, I love their shrimp cocktail. The food is at a very reasonable price, services quick, staff is friendly.

The only thing I’m gonna say that’s a con is the portions are a little small. Other than that this place is sooo BOMB! Love the sopes combo and their tacos of asada and tripa. The shrimp tostada is also BOMB! Not the«ceviche» but the Shrimp tostada! The ceviche bomb too but prefer the Shrimp tostada. Anyways just moved here from Los Angeles and was kinda worried there’s no good Mexican food here but El Rey’s is the shit!

Quick service, consistently delicious food, and CHEAP authentic Mexican food. I often feel out of place and unwanted when I walk into a Mexican restaurant(and I mean a real authentic place, not an overly Americanized place) and it’s often even worse that I don’t speak fluent Spanish. Tacos El Rey is totally different in that aspect. They’re welcoming and friendly, and happy to do business with someone who barely knows Spanish but sure does enjoy delicious food. I have not been to be other location, but the Sutro one has always pleased me. They have some other best carne asada fries for $ 5(I know, white girls love fries) and delicious tacos, which run for $ 1.50ish. The area is definitely run down and the building is old and also run down, but if you care more about eating delicious good quality food than you do about the age of a neighborhood, then you’ll be impressed.

Good Tacos, Burritos, Enchiladas. Sometimes it can be a little too greasy and somewhat of a long wait but I love their food. Friendly staff! I go here sometimes twice a week because I love the tacos that much! $ 6 for 3 tacos comination plate.

Best I’ve had in a long time! We are in the process of moving from Phoenix and will definitely be back! Tacos and Wet Burrito were awesome!

Dingy, desperately needs a makeover. Food forgettable except for the worst burrito I ever had. It was covered in red sauce which was Huntz sauce directly from a can. I know that burritos are only native to parts of northern Mexico. So if you really don’t want to have them, take it off your menu. Only reason its two stars is that the nachos were edible. Question. Why do so many Mexican restaurants have to be so uncreative?

For my 100th review, I feel like it has to be something pretty special. And you know what– this is. 10 years ago we moved to Reno from southern CA. Shortly after arriving, we asked a friend where the best Mexican food in town was. He recommended Tacos el Rey. Desperately craving a hole in the wall style taqueria, this fit the bill perfectly. And ten years later, we still think it’s the best in town. It’s more rare that we’re able to make it up to the north part of town for a quick bite, so our dining frequency here had dropped precipitously. But tonight we weren’t in the mood for anything fancy, but hungry for deliciousness so we came here. Typically we judge taquerias by how many gringos you find in them(sorry!) and again tonight we were pleased to be one of two Gringos in there. 10 years ago this place was a screaming deal. 3 dollar burritos, 1 dollar tacos. 5 bucks and you came out stuffed! It’s still a great deal with just a bit of inflation. My wife has been on a Carne Asada fries kick since she saw a Facebook post featuring them the other day. We got that, tacos de Asada and al pastor, two carnitas flautas and a pork tamal for good measure. And it was every bit as good as always! As we’re scarfing our faces and making moaning and groaning sounds of pleasure, we ask each other out loud how anyone can prefer the Americanized sit down Mexican places in town(I’m not going to name names, but anything with ground beef combination plates would qualify)? The amount of flavor packed into one bite of this food beats the pants off anything you’ll find on «the dark side.» The salsa is magical and enhances every bite. We loved every moment of the experience. So in a way, now at 100, I’ve come full circle. And will continue to eat here every chance we get. Thank you Tacos el Rey. You make life in Reno just a little bit better, every single flavorful bite you offer.

Authentic, great food, even pleased the kiddos. Fish tacos were good, salsa flavorful not overwhelming spicy. Be back again soon.

This place is really yummy! Atmosphere: very authentic, fast Mexican food. There is both an option to dine in or take out and during lunch time there was a minimal wait time(10 min max) Food: I personally love Mexican food aand I will definitely be coming back here for another visit. I cleared my entire lunch plate combo in a matter of minutes and it was very tasty. I ordered three chicken tacos off their combo menu and the cilantro on top made the tacos stand out! Very good. Service: the cashier and waiters/waitresses were all very friendly… The cashier even suggested some options and helped me decide what I wanted… They have a lot of options to choose from!

Absolutely authentic Mexican food! Only corn tortillas, no flour which I was a little mad about until I had the corn tortillas, they were amazing! I’m moving to Reno in the next couple weeks from Milwaukee, WI and this will definitely become one of my go-to restaurants once I make the move!

I love and prefer the more authentic type Mexican food places in town, but I had the worst experience here yesterday. My son ordered a burrito and then wanted to add rice and beans before his order was even made(combo style). The cashier was rude and charged us $ 4.85 for the rice and beans which was almost as much as the burrito. Ok, not a huge deal. I had ordered camarones barrocchos. I understand the shrimp should be «cooked» in the lime juice but these were still very raw. They were blue, slimy and limp… not even pink. I took them up to the counter and she said«that’s how we make them.» I said I’m not comfortable eating raw seafood and she gave me a dirty look and said«no.» I asked for a burrito instead and she pointed to sign that said no exchanges or refunds. It was a bummer!

I’m not giving this restaurant 4 stars for the location, the décor, or the seating. The prices are affordable, they have a pretty good selection on their menu. The reason I’m giving them 4 stars is because I personally LOVE their savichie mixto!!! I like to buy it in the evening, squeeze the lime juice over it and refrigerate it till morning, and eat it for breakfast. It’s a tasty alternative to toast and eggs. Try it!

The Tostada Mixta is amazing! Lime marinated fish with shrimp and octopus. They have all of the fun meats — lungua(beef tongue), birria(goat), buche(pork stomach) and cabeza(beef head) along with the usual pork, chorizo, beef and chicken.

Two words: Goat Burrito! Tasted like beef. Every bite had meat. Thanks Unilocalers for pointing me to this place. Great prices. I wish I had another stomach to eat more. Their sauce is a bit different, so I didn’t add it to my burrito.

We stopped by after a soccer game to get a quick bite and first of all the place is a filthy mess. There was food all over the floor and people just walking over it including the waitresses that were bringing the food out. It was so disgusting. I asked and employee if they could please clean it up because it was grossing me out and 10 minutes later she showed up with a broom and swept the floor. As for the food, all I can say is that I have had way better. It was edible but nothing out of this world. I am sure I can make better at home but this was convenient because we were in the area. Will think twice about coming back here.

I was pretty excited about this place given its good reviews. It was not in a good neighborhood, but I figured the food was probably still good. I came here with my dad on a Sunday afternoon and the place was PACKED. It took us a while to find a clean table to sit at. A tip: Before coming here, make sure you know how to count to 100 in Spanish; the staff calls out the order numbers in Spanish. That I didn’t mind so much — made the place feel more authentic. Now on to the food. My dad had a goat meat burrito and I had a carnitas taco plate. My tacos arrived a full 20 minutes after the burrito. Neither of us were impressed. Everything was relatively bland, even with the radish slices on the tacos. The salsa was flavorless and barely spicy at all. The rice was nicely flavored, but nothing special. And the beans gave me the worst gas I’ve had in years. I’m tempted to go back sometime and give this place a second chance, but don’t count on it.

I love the food and the people here. The ambiance isn’t exactly charming, but you get what you pay for I recon. The caviche is to die for and my other half loves the carne asada tacos. The only drawback is the parking lot. Our rule — Double check the locks and dont make eye contact. Get in, eat and get out.
