Atmosphere — 4 stars Food — 4 stars Service — 5 stars Not your typical restaurant you would find in a casino. I was very impressed first with the service. We were there on a Saturday night and were seated with no waiting. Our server was the hero of the night. We missed happy hour, no problem because the best margaritas were very reasonably priced. So we had two each. Chips and salsa were fantastic with the guacamole. I wanted a chile verde burrito which was not on the menu. No problem. Our server placed the order and the chef produced one of the best meals I’ve had at a mexican restaurante. I would go back for sure.

Super slow service, and make sure you get what you ordered. Quick, however, to take your credit card when you finally get the tab(they hover over you, in fact) and then slow to return it for your signature. Food’s your basic Texas Mex. Watery drinks, to be expected in Reno.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Reno. Located in Circus Circus just next to the sushi place next door. They even have happy hour 2pm-6pm $ 1.99 margaritas! The unlimited chips and salsa were really good and fresh. I ordered the carne asada and it was delicious. With the price you pay, they give you a large quantity. I was already getting full, but my dish came with flour tortillas. The service is fantastic depending on who your waiter/waitress are. I advised to anyone craving for Mexican food to stop by here.

Came in for happy hours. Definitely not the best but it was okay. My aunt and I got the $ 1.99 margaritas… what a joke! Just like lemonade! –_– the jalapeño poppers weren’t all that. $ 1.99 each… Deff not worth it! I don’t really recommend it for happy hour. The ppl were nice tho.

My family has been visiting Reno for years. seriously miss Smoking Geckos, not sure who would change this place to Mexican, since there is one down the hall in Silver Legacy. The bbq and pizzas were great with the sushi. We usually just come here for kokopellis. The sushi is amazing! We Came to Reno for spring break with the kids. We went to Dos Geckos last weekend, on Saturday, to try happy hour. There were 6 of us, we sat out in that front area with the little tables. Margaritas and little tacos were great! We usually always have Jim when we go to eat here. He is the best. But everyone has always been great. Most of the staff is the same since we were kids. Because of what happened there that night, we have decided its important to leave this review. This is the other side to the LG review left on the 23rd of March. It did not happen that way. That group of people were in the middle table area and some scattered everywhere. They were drunk, loud, rude and out of control. Harassing employees and other guests. One even started a fight with a guy who was sitting at the bar! They were saying bad things to the girls who worked at the door, cussing and yelling at the mangers that were trying to calm everyone down. That manager did not cuss at anyone. We were sitting right there and heard her calmly state her name when the woman went up to her and started cussing at her. Finally security showed up and had to diffuse the situation. We really love Circus Circus. This was a terrible thing to watch. This was not the staff. This was those customers drinking too much.

Went for the happy hour. What a joke, there Margarita is about 3 oz. Their appetizer come as singles. So we got one Jalapeño popper… talk to MGMT, Chris who is in charge of food and beverage, he laughed too. Several tables were also upset and several people walked out!

My wife and I along with 4 friends are staying at the Silver Legacy. We are here celebrating 2 birthdays(my wife’s included). We decided to look around the casino for a place to eat. We checked around and decided on Dos Geckos. When we spoke with the hostess, she advised us there was a 45 – 60 minute way. We put our name down. When we finally sat down, we ordered drinks. I ordered a Dos Equis. After I got it and had a few sips, I realized the glass was dirty. There was a piece of rice in the glass. Our server(I forgot her name) was quick to take care of it. We ordered our food which consisted of some Mexican food and sushi. When we received our food, one of our friends noticed that the rice was extremely hard and cold. Another one of us ordered Carne Asada nachos. The meat was very cold and the cheese on the nachos looked as if was microwaved for 5 minutes. Our sushi order got mixed up and a few of the rolls that were suppose to be hot ended up cold. We asked our server to identify which roll was which and she just gave us our menus back. My wife poured some soy sauce into the provided soy sauce container and discovered a gnat in the soy sauce! All in all, the server was very friendly and tried to help us out as best she could. Unfortunately, the kitchen staff seems to be lacking. The manager took care of the alcohol we ordered but did nothing about the food we ordered. We will never return here and when our friends tell us they are staying in Reno, we will make sure they don’t eat here.

I stopped in here for lunch while in Reno for the day. The reason why I chose this place was because it was the only restaurant without a line… I soon figured out why that was. Although it’s a very large place, there were only a few tables occupied at 1pm on a Sunday, Valentine’s Day to be exact. Chips and salsa were immediately brought to the table and our orders were taken shortly there after. I ordered the 2 taco plate. When it came out, I noticed right after that the refried beans looked terribly dried out. Upon inspection, I was right. In addition, the taco shells didn’t seem fresh. Lastly, the chicken itself was cold. I told the server and he quickly offered to take it back and have the kitchen make me a new one… to which I obliged. It definitely came out better the second time, but it was far from the best Mexican food that I’ve eaten.

Just sat down at the bar and ordered the happy hour margaritas on the flyer for the hotel it states happy hour margaritas are. 99 cents. The bartender charged me $ 2.00 a piece. Took the first slip and it taste like sour shit. I took the 2 drinks back to the bar and told the bartender how awful the drinks taste. He say he knows thats why they are the happy hour specials. Gave him back the 2 pieces of crap and ordered another drink where I was charged for that also. I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever order at that bar again. That the money wasn’t a issue the the principal fact that they charge for a replacement drink is. If I could give a –5 I would

We were not planning to have dinner here but because of a reservation goof up at a different restaurant we settled on dinner here. We started with chips, salsa and an appetizer of guacamole. An AWESOME guacamole! For dinner I had a taco salad with black beans and no meat. It was a HUGE salad served in a crispy shell with all the taco fixings. As far as taco salads go it was pretty darn good. While we didn’t originally choose this restaurant our dinner was very enjoyable. The service was attentive, friendly and fast. The food was great and I would definitely come back again.

Dos geckos/Kokopellis is absolutely terrible. If I could give them zero stars, I would. Two waitresses were extremely rude. I was told one was named coco. She was completely absent as a waitress. She took forever just to bring out our waters, didn’t come back at all to ask if we needed anything, which we did. When I asked her for a to-go box she walked away mid sentence. She did that multiple times. I understand being a waitress is difficult and you have to deal with multiple things at once, but that’s no reason to treat guests like garbage. At one point I stood up to get a menu because I was going to place a to-go order and nobody was showing up at our table. I accidentally grabbed the lunch menu and was approached by a different waitress who rudely snatched the menu away from me and told me that I had grabbed the lunch menu and then proceeded to have someone else give me a dinner menu. I felt very disrespected and so did my parents. Never going to this place again.

Price is comparable to a Chevys or On the Border. Food is very good and margaritas are great as well. Service was some of the best that I had on my stay in reno. Definitely recommend for a low key good dinner on the cheap.

January 26, 2016 Tuesday — 6:30PM for dinner 3 adults Atmosphere — 4 stars Food — 4 stars Service — 5 stars Background — My wife asked I wanted to go to a steak house today. She knew my answer before she even asked. We decided on one we have not been to before, the Steakhouse at Circus. As we walked around to the door we were like we didn’t need a reservation. After entering the place it was completely empty. I walked over to Americana Café to see what was going on. Yep OpenTable and Unilocal have the wrong hours for the Steakhouse. We ended up at Dos Geckos. Atmosphere — Half Mexican and half sushi bar. What a strange combo. The only issue I really had were the tables were a little high for the chairs so it did not feel right when you sat down, a mirror thing. Food Drinks — Mexican beer of course. They have several on tap and I had the Modelo Especial. Appetizer — My wife loves guacamole and we ordered some. A little pricey but a solid amount of it comes with chips. Nice and creamy, the way you expect it. My Main Course — I love a good burrito but you can always take it to another level. Deep fry it to make a chimichanga. I was clearly craving steak at this point and went with the Carne Asada. When the food arrived, the chimichanga covered more than half the plate. I was really expecting a ton of filler based on the size. There was barely any rice in it. I had a choice of black beans or refried, and told it was inside the chimichanga when it came. It was hiding, okay hiding somewhere other than inside it. It was loaded to max with carna asada, solid. The beef was flavored well and cooked to a juicy tendernessI was only able eat half of the chimichanga. The plating was not very pretty; it could have come from a dive taqueria. It really was all about the beef and I would order it again. Say chimichanga out loud, aint it a fun word! Service — On point. Future — Yeah I could see coming back here.

Negative 5 trillion! How is this place still in business? Came here for happy hour. The Greko sliders literally look and taste like vomit. The margaritas are weak as fu*k and the service is painfully show. Oh and to add to the bs they charged me for an additional margarita I didn’t order and some random +1 $ for idk what the freak. I’m so disgusted. Don’t waste your time or money. Go gamble and get the free drinks.

The Asian(Chinese) bartender who can only speak broken English was so rude. So, I thought not to give him any tip, but he complained and demanded for a tip. I told him that I did not like his service, but just to shut him up and prevent him from ruining my evening I gave him a dollar tip. Definitely, I will never go back to this place again.

Other than greasy chips and lack luster salsa I can’t complain about the food at all. My husband ordered carne enchiladas and I the vegetarian burrito. We were both very pleasantly surprised with our dishes. It was clear that the servers are over worked, our basically had to run to keep up with all of his tables but he did it with poise. He checked on us regularly and took care of one tiny mix up with my margarita(which was delicious btw)! We will probably never stay at the silver legacy again but if we did we would definitely go back to dos geckos.

A large group of us dined here tonight to send off our co-worker on her next chapter. I personally did not enjoy myself as both food and service were fairly unsatisfactory. Though it was not *terrible*, let’s just say I can really relate to the reviews rating it poorly. I had the chicken enchiladas dinner and it wasn’t flavorful in the least. Each bite was hoping for more flavor, more zest, more something. Something was missing. I’ve been to several Mexican restaurants. Chili’s gives me more flavor than this! C’mon! Service was lacking as the table was rarely checked on for drink refills. Tortilla chips were replenished right before the food came out, though there was a good chunk of time we’d been wanting more. The wait was pretty long for the food. What gets me the most is a couple of people in our party having to wait another 20 minutes for their ONE plate to split to come out. Their dishes were given but no food to follow as promised. While the rest of us had warm food and ready to dine, they asked a couple of waitstaff, including the busboy, TWICE, to check on their order. You would think they would notice FIRST and offer to check on it right away without having to be asked to. The ONLY highlight of the evening was Jim, I believe to have been a manager. He was our waiter and had a good personality. He seemed to have had our orders correct, however my side of guac never arrived so I had to ask for that twice. It wasn’t too terribly packed for a Saturday night, but they looked steady enough. Jim happened to hook up our friend who’s dinner this was for with a bottle of some alcohol on the house. It was a nice surprise and a very cool gesture. While I have these gripes about the service, the bottom line for me is unfortunately the food isn’t memorable enough for me to want to return. Would I try the sushi bar, Kokopelli? Probably not. They do not honor the AYCE deal at the tables, so those of us who would have liked sushi tonight did not find a deal in ordering a la carte. I don’t like that aspect. I also don’t care for the places that time you in AYCE. Here it is an hour. In the past I’ve had experiences where I may be timed, but half of that time is waiting on rolls or slow waiters to come around for my next order. It’s all time wasted when I could make the most of my time. I don’t like being timed for a meal! I just do not feel it is entirely fair for the customer but I do see their reason for implementing it. As far as Mexican and Sushi restaurants, there are many, many places in our Reno-Tahoe area with tastier options.

Dos Gecko /Kokopelli. Really the same restaurant where you can get sushi and/or Mexican food. Too bad neither one is really great I’ve had sushi here a couple of times. It’s ok. But I don’t really want sushi that’s ok. I want sushi that’s great. The best thing I’ve had which is really tasty is the Cervechi roll. This really taste like Cervechi What I’ve noticed here as in other sushi places. You get the best Sushi at the actual sushi bar and not at the tables. Sushi gets a little«ricey» at the tables. I think chefs are a little more generous with the fish when they know you can see them making it. I’d rather have a smaller roll than one so big you can’t get it in your mouth As for the Mexican food, my daughter had. Chicken quesadilla that she said tasted like grilled chess with dry unseasoned chicken. Not a place I’d recommend highly but if I was with a group and that’s where they wanted to go, I’d survive.

Alright… I’ve dined here 5 times. The first 2 times were extrodinary for what I thought would be medicore being casino — faire Mex food. The Nachos late night with my son were off the hook. The next day my party of 8 was more than satisfied and my wet chimichanga was to die for… Since then it’s been a slide to the point where I might not be back… Once time was late night and the tortilla soup was more like hot matza baby food. I thought maybe it was the bottom of the pot beings that it was so late. The rest of the ordered food had a sloppy presentation and was not to my expectation. Came back a month or so later for lunch and wow what a truncated menu. The tortilla soup was still like baby food and I will never order it again. My taco salad alright but Pollo Loco’s is better(as is their tortilla soup) and no fried ice cream? Well the service kind of went with the food. From suberb the first couple times to sub par. What gives Dos Geckos?

It saddens me to say this, but Taco Bell has more flavor In their food than they do. They did a nice job presenting the food but what’s the point when the food has absolutely no flavor. After 2 chips I sent the nachos back. And went looking for another place to eat. 1 star for our server she was nice.

Hmmmmm… So we needed a place to fuel up for the Santa Crawl and some of the group did not want to do buffet so we settled on this place. Then I read the Unilocal reviews and got concerned because frankly they are mostly negative or mediocre. Still, have not been there and I will basically eat anywhere once just for the experience. Let me say that we did not experience the bad service noted in some reviews on here. Maybe they had extra staff on due to the Santa Crawl but overall our service was courteous and attentive, although I did have to ask twice for the four tortillas that came with my carnitas dish, which I though unusual for a Mexican restaurant. Chips and salsa were brought to the table and were pretty good. They were served with both green and red salsa which I appreciated. The rest of the meal? Just OK. We had two pitchers of Margaritas, one a melon margarita and the other regular. The melon margarita was a little bland but the regular was OK. The food itself? Meh. The carnitas I had came with rice and beans. The rice lacked any distinctive flavor or seasoning. The beans were vegetarian black beans and just OK. The pork was a bit on the dry side which disappointed me. Overall this is like a lot of other Mexican restaurants in Reno. The food is not really innovative or authentic and there are plenty of people(including the tourists) who are willing to settle for it rather than venture to places that might be a little more authentic but less convenient and maybe in the questionable parts of town. My friend mentioned that the sushi at the Kokopeli’s counter is good and so maybe the next time I will give that a go.
