Got a crazy craving for some pan dulce and food source is the only Hispanic type business close to our office. I asked Vanesa, the young girl managing the bakery at the time if they were fresh and she let me know they were baked in house but not made there. I felt bad having to ask Vanesa questions I got the vibe that I was interrupting her while she was doing what she was doing. I hope she had a better day :)

My first thought is why is this place not busier? It sit’s on the edge of a nice neighborhood, has plenty of parking and one of the best produce departments around. I love the variety of Hispanic ingredients. The fresh chile’s are amazing. jalapeño’s, banana peppers, Anaheim’s Poblano’s and serrano’s. Then there’s the Nopales, or Mexican cactus whatever you like to call it. Big beautiful leaves calling out to me every time I walk by. Cilantro, avocado’s and tomatoes are abundant and always fresh. Another thing I like about this place is the tortilla factory located next to the deli. They make fresh tortilla’s daily both small and large. The little corn tortilla’s are perfect for taco’s while the large ones fry up well for chips. They also have some of the best home made flour tortilla’s in town. Don’t be mistaken by my love for the Hispanic ingredients, this is a full service grocery store with all your standard needs. Baking goods, meat dept., canned items, dry goods and all the other daily essentials you need on a trip to the market. The employees are always nice, helpful and friendly as well. Now that I think about it, this is exactly what I want in a grocery store! I actually look forward to shopping! Imagine that!

Great little grocery store. Good deals, has fresh fruit, frozen items, brand names and store brand, which is without a lot of additives. I like compare shopping here better than most Walmart brands. I tend to save $ 10 for every $ 30 of items I would normally get at Walmart and these items from Food Source are healthier not like whole foods kind of healthy but a middle ground. The fruit items here sometimes are a hit or miss depending on what your buying. I’m very disappointed to find that my favorite carrot juice is no longer available and wish they had better upkeep on the fresh fruits. They have most items you would need, a small organic section, they carry all kinds of milk and juices, crackers, eggs, tortillas, Latino goods, ‘fresh’ish meats, and water. The staff is friendly and tries their best to help you find what you need. I like shopping here.

Mmmm!!! I have just recently discovered Food Source, just a few blocks from our apartment. Why have I not known about this place sooner? AMAZING!!! I’m having homemade tamales this morning from their deli section(tasty as HELL!), and my daughter had their breakfast burritos the last time we went here. We also discovered that they make homemade tortillas and sell them. No more factory manufactured tortillas for US! Since discovering this store, we’ve had tacos quite a few times… their meat department makes El Pastor that you take home and cook yourself. It’s SO good! Their produce section is really nice, there’s quite a few things I haven’t seen other places… and everything looks really fresh and beautiful. I can’t even say enough about this store… there’s very few things we want, that they don’t have. And the prices, WAY less expensive then most stores around the area. Score!!!

Its a typical grocery store. We came in to buy bottled water because it could get pretty expensive buying water at the hotel. But it was a great idea to just get a case. As we walked right in, I could not help but noticed the lighting. Everything to me with my own eyes, looked very green. It actually hurt my eyes. Of course the person I was with did not notice about these things. So it was just me. I am very sensitive to things like that. But overall, it is a typical grocery store that has produce, meats, bakery and etc etc. I went in close to 11pm. So it was not that crowded. Not bad of a place to go to really.

This is a store that is somehow connected to Raley’s. The produce is gorgeous and tasty– as I would expect from a Raley’s store. The market is definitely going after our Hispanic neighbors. Meat prices seemed a bit higher than Winco, but it’s much more of an attractive environment. ‘Good location, near the Burlington Coat Co and Atlantis. Cashiers were pleasant and the gentleman in the produce section was exceptional.

Straight-to-the-point, unpretentious name. This is indeed a source of food. I appreciate that in this duplicitous world. OK, cheaper-end, bag-it-yourself grocery in the vein of Foodmaxx and Sak n Save. Not a bad choice for the basics as they price-match anyone if you bring their flyer. I’d eye the meats and veggies REAL carefully, though. I wouldn’t get pastries here either, my muffins went moldy in 24 hours Food selection and quality overall is sub-Safeway, but the pricing is also a little lower, the employees are nice, and the store is clean. Gotta get some points for $ 5 full roasted chickens everyday too.

So today I was there and there is an ENTIRE case of lunch meat dated Jan 16th!!! TODAY is the 19!!! YUCKYUCKANDMOREYUCK! I am wondering why I continue to shop here but I do like it but I am beginning to check the expiration date on EVERYTHING I purchase. When I complained before the Manager called me and stated that they would sell deli stuff up to the day of expiration. Ok… but NOTAFTER the date!!! And why can I only find milk within a few days of expiration?

My son said he shopped there last night and was soooo happy! He said he bought pastries, cheese, eggs, avocados, rolls, juice and romain lettuce. He was so happy with the price of the big head of lettuce, 2/$ 1 so that is .50 each! He was delighted with the prices and the selection of items.

I can recommend Food Source. I liked the quality of items sold here. They positioned themselves as a low cost store. I went there the day after I stocked up on some household items at my local Target and Target had them beat on just about every item. Some of the food items were better priced. I found things there that were cheaper than Smith’s/Kroger and more importantly they seem to have a better selection than Smith’s.

My husband and I went here right before they were closing because we were in the neighborhood and needed some items for a recipe we were planning to make the next day. I was super disappointed in this food outlet. The meat section looked AWFUL, most of the meat was turning brown and the whole back of the store smelled like rotten food. Like I said, it was around closing time, but it totally turned me off and gave me a «gut feeling» that I shouldn’t buy anything from this store. The layout was also a bit unorganized. I will not be back.

CLEAN is the first word that comes to mind when I think of this store. It’s large, roomy, well lit and everyone is so very friendly! They have a fresh veggie section I prefer, over most supermarkates. They make hot foods you can eat in the dining area, or take home. They make fresh tortillas that sell fast! But grabbing a warm bag of corn or flour tortillas, and eating ‘em strait outta the bag… mmmmmmmmmmm

This was exactly the grocery store we have been searching for since moving to Reno. My husband and I have enjoyeVERY disappointed… I thought that was our only choice… until he stumbled upon this gem! I have to say if you are looking for a «normal» American grocery store, you won’t appreciate the flavor here. They have SOOO many fun Hispanic ingredients, products and evenHispanic frozen foods. Also the Mexican cheese selection is amazing, and they even have flavored sour cream(crema) in the deli… SOOO delish!(Ask for a sample, they are awesome!) What a FUN place to get lunch! It is SUPER clean, cheap, and yummy Mexican eats. The avocado green sauce and el pastor(meat) are standouts. We went today again(for about the 4th time), he had 5 tacos(the small ones), and I had the taquito special. He had one of each kind of meat for his tacos(accept the lengua… can’t bring ourselves to eat that one)… Delicious!(DON’T bother with the fried chicken, or potatoe wedges in the take-away section… that is NOT the reason you come to Food Source… get the Mexican or go home!) We have had excellent service here everyday we have been. Every time we have been they have been stocking fresh produce. Today I got 6 bunches of cilantro for 1 $!!! They have excellent prices, and even better will cut open any orange, apple, etc. for you to try before you buy! They are also always making fresh tortillas in the store! Food Source is a gem! I have South American flashbacks every time I walk into the store… minus the nasty smells in the meat dept. I love this place!!!

I have to agree with Sandy C. that this place is awesome! I stopped by over the past weekend, and was pleasantly surprised to find this Hispanic food enclave. I’d been searching for quite a few so-called specialty items(like tamarind pods), and this place has them in abundance. They have a tortilleria in-house, and they make their own tamales. Plus they have all kinds of dried chiles — how cool is that? It is true that one may not find everything they are looking for here… in fact, my husband had a heck of a time trying to find ketchup. Part of the problem seems to be the idiosyncratic organization system… for example, I found the exact same type of hot chocolate in two different areas of the store(and neither area was part of a display or anything like that). It does seem that with a little patience(and just asking somebody) one can find most of what they need here. And it’s cheap!

I was in Reno visiting family over the weekend and we decided on making a home cooked meal rather than a Casino buffet. The big box grocery store follows the same structure as other budget stores, such as FoodMaxx or Food4Less. The store made tamales caught our eye, especially since making them would take a few hours. We purchased a bag of them, which includes about five or six and average out to $ 1.50 a piece. A bargain. My whole family was surprised at how delicious they were for being store bought. The quality and taste of store bought tamales are usually horrendous, but these were incredibly great, especially at the price point. I can’t review the store more thoroughly, as I didn’t get to really take my time, but seems like a decent place for Reno shoppers. Prior to leaving Reno and heading back home, we stopped once more to stock up on the tamales, which led to an employee telling us that they are made fresh daily and never frozen.

Still loving this place. Sorry Java B is having a bad experience. I think I will call HQ about hot food being gluten-free, however I’ve also seen the sauces being made a bit, such as grilling green peppers in bulk over the flame broiler. I’ve asked Diego to make a sign saying which items are gluten-free, which should include the verde(pork and lengua). Probably doesn’t include the chicken salpicon as they use a seasoning mix for the chicken flavor. New discovery: the loose jerky at the hot bar is incredible. All flavors. Well worth it at $ 20/lb — not paying for moisture and sugar. I prefer the dry flavor and crunchy texture to chewy packaged jerky. I think I’ll go in tonight and take advantage of large mangos 3 for $ 1. Yum!
